People keep hyping roc nation since they won the quillen purse bid with a huge offer.. But the fight never materialized, they don't have any tv outlets, they don't really have a roster, all they have basically done is overbid for a paper title fight and never materialized.. Sounds basically like don king productions
So why do people think they are a force?
Nope, the simple answer is money. Jay-Z has a lots of money and if you want to be a serious force in any sport that's a good start. Simple as that.
The question was why do people say this~. Why do most people say this here, because they see Haymon as this monolith and Roc Nation is getting seen as a white knight without any knowledge if they are that or not. If that is not a sign of desperation I don't know what is.
Not why can Roc Nation succeed.
If you are going to correct then understand what is getting talked about.
Jay Z the fat lip ugly mofo has too many connections high up in the game, a small fish like Haymon is like shyt off a shoe for him, his ties with HBO show that he's in it to make more money obviously and become the leading force in boxing be it, promotions or advisory.
A simple answer~ desperation.
Some people are very desperate for something to change, Roc Nation is new and throwing some money around so people want it to be a force.

What I don't get if they are targeting haymon.
Haymon gets paid a percent of his clients earnings, so if they land a career high 1.4 million payday from a promoter (roc nation) then haymon earns more money.. If they were gonna hurt haymon, they would sign away some clients or potential clients
Quillen's decision to vacate could have been a duck because they didn't think he would beat korobov, so you vacate and then fight Jacobs for his belt in a Brooklyn showdown.. This decision to vacate may have happened regardless of who won the purse bid.. GBP could have won it and quillen still would have vacated..
You'd think that but doesn't look like Haymon wants his top fighters on HBO who Roc Nation are rumored to have a strong association with.

Anyone think it's possible that maybe jay-z being from Brooklyn wanted to put on a huge Brooklyn show with quillen, and saw his chance with the purse bid.. Maybe they aren't in it for the long term..
Phage they done anything else,, rumor has it they will bid n stiverne-wilder..
I haven't heard anyone say they are a force.
But, they've got Haymon shook and hemorrhaging titles which is both amusing and a positive step in terms of getting rid of the b/s title defenses Haymon fighters have been involved in.
Danny Garcia, you're next.
But it seems like they are going to be promoters instead of advisor/agents..
No matter how much money you have, their is only true tv money with hbo and showtime.. Their dates are already for the most part owned by gbp/top rank so it's nearly impossible to gain more than one show during the year
I see where you are coming from & agree that it isn't easy getting your foot in the door of this business but to dismiss any change or using the words "no matter how much money you have" in regards to the business world is ignorant.
Nothing stays the same forever; especially in in regards to business.
(Really exhausted the word "business" here)
I was thinking of this the other day.
People who aren't business minded don't accept that money talks & can change almost anything.

they put pressure on haymon and haymon now has to pay quillin 1.5 mill for his next joke fight. showtime isn't going to let this kind of crap continue forever, the backlash against espinoza and haymon will only grow and they will be out just like they were out at hbo except now with no where to go. they just sped up haymon's downfall which is good for boxing. hopefully we can get back to real fights and not joke set-ups and raiding a network for funds.
Winning purse bids means they were trying to be promoters, instead of an advisor role with fighters like haymon...
So does that mean they are trying to compete with top rank and gbp
if they can sign kevin durant they could make a major move real soon, who knows they might even help andre ward out his situation and base the company around him.

I agree they have potential, but they haven't done anything to this point to be proclaimed a force yet,, remember less than 2 years ago 50cent was gonna make waves..
Def already agreed that they're irrelevant as in terms of being on the map at this point but Haymon knows the difference between an experienced enterprise/team & 50 cent.
Not yet relevant in the sport in regard to action but to dismiss them as a force to be reckoned with is a fool's mistake.

Obviously jay z's music empire speaks for itself, add to that several high profile athletes signed to his sports agency and its not a bad guess to assume they will be a player in boxing. They haven't done anything yet but they have the money and the power to be a major player.
