Based on their last performances I'd say Pac. His killer instinct is gone, speed has decreased but footwork is still as good as it used to be.
Floyd in his last fight had no legs at all which make think maybe his footwork is permanently gone
Mayweather has better footwork
Manny may be faster on his feet
footwork isn't about speed...its about putting yourself in a position to land without being hit which no one does better than Mayweather and only Rigondeaux and Ward are close in that department.
Manny lunges in when he comes forward, gets sloppy, when he throws the straight left, he always lifts his left leg
When manny uses angles he is out of position to land as well as out of position to be hit.
Manny's footwork is more aesthetically pleasing but Mayweather's is more effective.
Most people on this forum confuse foot speed with foot work....they go hand and hand but are not the same
They have different kinds of footwork. Pac is more in and out trying to confuse his opponent and keep him off-balance, which Floyd is moving laterally to control distance
Manny has faster footwork..Floyd has more intelligent foot placement as he is always in position to hit and not get him...both have great footwork
/thread with this post pretty much.
Pac uses lateral movement and angles to throw punches in bunches(not so much these days).
He is also putting power into his punches and when he misses he can over extend a lot of the time.
Floyd on the other hand controls distance and patiently waits for his counters.
When he throws punches it is more measured and his primary concern is defense, so he normally snaps his punches back as fast as possible.
Imo Pac has the better footwork and while he may make mistakes it is because he is pressing the action.
When Pac did that who was the opponent ?
And what does it mean as to who to has the better footwork , footwork is not hopscotch , its about staying in position to defend or punch , and do it as fast and smooth as you can , you cant do anything while out of your range except hop around the ring apron .
I just find how your looking at foot work to be way off to what really matters in the ring .No, my definition of footwork is about setting the proper spacing, distance and angles in order to nullify your opponent's offense. Footwork is about keeping your opponent off balance and never finding a rhythm. It's also about finding the proper range in order to hit your opponent without them hitting you. However, it doesn't equate that Manny has the quicker reflexes or better defense because clearly Floyd does as he is able to adapt and anticipate his opponents punches coming before they are even thrown. It's just that Manny is a lot faster when it comes to moving his feet.
It's because Pac can actually circle the ring without his back touching the ropes. However, I have yet to see Mayweather do the same; Even when he was younger and fighting in the lower weight classes. His back always seem to touch the ropes whenever he is moving his lower body.

yah pac was dancing circles around rios, and he showed good movement against bradley in both fights.
pac's footwork is and always was leagues above floyd's.
:lol1: not sure if trolling or just stupid.
I don't get how he has better footwork when he is off balance and out of place on numerous occasions during most fights. Floyd is almost never in the wrong position to throw a punch or counter. It's because Pac can actually circle the ring without his back touching the ropes. They confuse speed for better...Manny has faster footwork..not better as Floyd is never out of position
You got it Larry , Floyds balance and coordination around a ring is fluid , its an art , he is rarely not in a position to fire or defend , Floyd is very efficient he dont waste nothing thats why he is the same in the last round as in the first , man the balance is great , the haters dont have the knowledge to understand what Floyd is doing , so think he wins for every other reason except the right one , he truly one of the best in history and history will look at him very kindly when he is gone .
Manny is quicker to move or go from A to B but he telegraphs the move , against great counter boxers it will always give him trouble , Manny hops to a pattern which is not only readable its wasting energy , its the very reason JMM has such close fights with him , I really hope Floyd and Manny fight because Floyd will read him like a book .

You know nothing ... When floyd walks into straights like pacman we can have this discussion .. Floyd's footwork always was and will be better than pacmans
its amazing. floyd was unbeatable but somehow the guy got old over night. prime floyd wouldve allowed maybe 50 punches from maidana. but now he got old fast, and gave up nearly 200 punches to a slow handed brawler.
Maidana may have a chance tonight
it wasn't pac's footwork that was the problem, it was his carelessness coming in with his hands so low.
and it wasn't floyd's movement that kept him from not getting hit it was his defense with the shoulder roll and also the fact that marquez was so much smaller than him.
How is not his fault when he trips over his own foot .

I would say Floyd's footwork is better overall, but it's much easier to stay in position when you're not the one pressing the action. Considering how offensive Manny is, his footwork is pretty damn good. Even great.

Because he fought the #2 and #3 P4P fighters and lost to both of them. Simple answer. And twice was agains the #2 P4P fighter in CLOSE fights. All three if them were close fights, he's just not good enough to beat the best, consistantly.
Pacquiao was boxing his ears off up 4-2 before getting iced. He woulda lost that fight too.
so then why the excuse for the 3-4 year gap?
Manny has the better footwork but Floyd has the overall better boxing ability.

Yes, this really had something to do with it. As if Floyd outweighed him by 20lb. Canelo was MUCH bigger than Floyd AND used the shoulder roll, did the stop him from getting hit by Floyd?
