Chris Algieri apparently was a a black belt in Chinese Kempo and also he was a successful kickboxer before his boxing career started. He also had done some amateur kickboxng and was a gifted wrestler at high school. He was a coach and captain for some wrestling teams.
These skills including boxing could make Chris Algieri into a successful MMA fighter as he has an extensive experience and practice in martial arts.
What do you think about it??????
You never know he has some skills that would transfer nicely to the cage, with his background in kickboxing and western boxing but the best base for MMA is wrestling IMO.
But the TS said he was a good wrestler also at the high school level which I was unaware of but the high school level and the college level is like going from the shallow end of the pool to the deep end not to mention the Olympic level which is like going from the Earth to the moon.
So I think it would all depend on how good his wrestling skills are or how good his takedown defense would be.
