Logically Cotto would lose to Lara. Trout had no problem beating Cotto and Lara is a slick southpaw similar to Trout only better with more speed and power. Canelo deserves lots of credit for edging Lara out in a close fight. Canelo is probably the only 154 pounder who can beat Lara. Lara is not someone who Cotto would fight anyway because he is very high risk and low reward money wise. So by this rationale, the Cotto that we're talking about facing Lara is the one from the Trout fight? Have you seen nothing since then that improves your opinion of current Cotto? If you answer "no", I see the logic of your position though I may disagree. After that fight I thought he'd hang em' up. I thought he looked like he didn't train hard for that fight and that he was done. To give credit where it's due, Cotto seems to have benefitted from his association with Roach. In addition, the Trout that beat Cotto is looking like a peak Trout about now. And I think El Perro and Canelo put some hard miles on Lara as well. I'll take current Cotto over current Trout and Lara, though I admit some possible wishful thinking in my figurings.

Cotto has more layers to his game then Lara ever will. Cotto beats the master boxer by a clear decision.

Lara's reach is 75in while Cotto's is 67in. If Lara boxes Cotto from the outside like Trout did and stays away from trading with him, he has a good chance of beating him.

Lara gifted that W to Canelo. I think Lara's vastly overrated, he was getting beat up by Alfredo ****in Angulo for gods sake. He's very beatable if he actually decides to fight and not run. Agreed!!!! EXTREMELY overrated!!!!! Cotto is not a very very good boxer, he's good but not very very good. I think Canelo has a decent ring IQ, although Cotto is much better at cutting the ring and Canelo is a better counterpuncher. Cotto's counter punching is better than Canelo's... his timing on it is certainly better its how he hurts guys with a jab, even drops them. Gomez, Clottey and even Martinez, while not actually hitting the canvas did get caught in the 9th with that counter jab. Canelo has more power and a better chin than Cotto and that's the only advantage he has. I also ago that Cotto isn't what he used to be, but he is the best he has been since the Mosley fight, and in the process has gotten smarter. Sometimes an old veteran is better than a physically prime fighter, in this case it will be no different.

Cotto would beat Lara, that style will never beat Cotto unless your name is Floyd Mayweather. Regarding Trout, I think that was a combination of a bad night and Trout wisely using his physical advantages. I personally don't consider Trout a good pure boxer, more of a guy who's good at spamming punches all night. I honestly think a rematch would look completely different.
