There's a debate raging in the 'Fantasy Fights' section of the forum. He's a flavour:
VK vs LL was virtually prime for prime.
The fight was nearly prime for prime, Vitali was not even yet prime but Lennox surely was. Lennox carrying 10 lbs or so overweight is a BS excuse Lennox defenders keep bringing up.
It is worth mentioning that in early June 2003 - before Vitali was drafted in to replace Kirk Johnson - Lennox, in response to questions from British reporters, said:
"I have been having thoughts about retirement” . “A lot of different things happened to me in my year out of the ring. Most definitely I’ve been thinking about retiring on a last big super-fight — it could be Vitali Klitschko or Roy Jones.”
Simple question for NSB: Did Vitali Klitschko fight a PRIME Lennox Lewis?
Anyone saying Lewis was close to his prime is delusional.
Lennox was a good 3 years past his best. He was also looking to retire, out of shape and lacking motivation.....didn't matter though, an out of shape and retirement bound Lewis still stopped Vitali.
The Lewis that Vitali fought was one of the best versions of Lewis that there ever was.
This is a tough to accept, but full blown fact.
The heftiest and the most experienced Lewis that fought, he appeared ferocious and on top of the game during the fight. Was bragging, rubbishing the opponent and sounded in supreme confidence before the fight. And he was only 37, PRIME age for a modern HW boxer. And hadn't been in many hard wars either.
Nobody credible could believe lesser versions of Lewis were prime!
