I know we've all made 'Rob Salsa' jokes and so forth (even Al Bernstein called him 'Rob' once), but Rod showed a ton of courage. Even after 2 knockdowns he was still fighting back, trying to get back into the fight. Most fighters who are that hurt don't fight back with so much gusto, even those at the very top.
I think it's only fair we praise him now for fighting someone 2 divisions higher, knowing his power was no where near Danny's, and for a shitty amount of money (as far as boxing goes anyway).
Jokes apart, I hope Salka goes back to his winning ways back @ 130lbs, he looked good against Collado.
I know he took the fight for the big pay day, but he should now realize that with a step up in weight classes there's a huge step up in power as well. He can duck & dodge punches all he wants, if he gets caught..he's going down from that power. Moving up weight classes should be a slow process..
Salka represented himself with honour in this fight. He had many chances to easily bow-out during the fight and collect his pay.
Instead he fought to the bitter end which really highlighted what a farce this fight was to begin with.
Very honourable and courageous.
Salka fought bravely to the best of his ability. He just did not belong in the same ring with the champ and this fight should never have been made. That's not Salka's fault. For some unknown reason he was offered a chance for a good payday and a chance to fight one of the best fighters in the world and took that chance. I don't blame Salka but I blame everyone who put this garbage fight on Showtime. As a paid subscriber to Showtime I think I deserve better, more evenly matched fights than the three one sided mismatches I endured tonight.
This fight was a disgrace, Garcia should actually go down in the rankings for fighting such an over classed fighter at a catch weight. I don't see how anything was gained for Garcia other than a paycheck. Manny will likely do this same **** in his next fight. It's disgraceful flat out.
He still has courage for getting in there with someone 2 divisions bigger and ranked 77 places higher.
Courage for accepting the biggest payday of his career?
There's courage and then there's stupidity, exchanging with your opponent who is a big puncher while you're hurt and you know you have no power : that's stupidity.
I would imagine he wasn't exactly thinking straight at that point in the fight.
You're not wrong about the power though, I checked his boxrec, his KO % is 13% - and that's at Feather and Lightweight.
Horrible match-up.

F*ck Salsa!!
Danny Garcia got paid 600K for this fight
Complete nonsense. There are fighters who don't get paid what they're worth, and Garcia earns north of half a million for this joke.

OP is right, Salka was overmatched and way out of his weight class but he didn't quit, got up twice and actually took the fight to Garcia when he was most hurt.
Greater fighters have gone out with a whimper, if nothing else he has heart.
