Read my whole comment I wrote, the majority of fighting fans (based on the topics about them and the polls ) think that Canelo wins over Trout and Lara were legit. And I think that beating Lara and Trout is better than beating Geale. Golovkin beat them by KO, okay so what? He has a big punching power, that is his style, Canelo's style isn't necessarily include the knockout but for me because the knockouts Golovkin won't be ranked higher, the main point is which fighters he beat and for me Lara and Trout are ranked higher than Geale. IMO Golovkin is near to the top 10 (whom I consider as elite fighters) but not there yet. And I say again if you don't care about the resume but base on what somebody think and the KO-s you can put Wilder in the top 10 though he just beat bums for this time and everyone know that he is nowhere near from p4p top 10 because he is very unproven yet. But we will see.
Pfft... BWHAHAHA!!! Canelo style is only based on his power, you have no clue what you are talking about. He has no concept of cutting off the ring, setting traps, no ring generalship and has very limited boxing IQ. Also, I do care about resume, but it is how you look and with relativly similar competiation GGG has looked 10x's better. He's actually KO'ing guys in his weight class not, aside from Angulo (which was a terrible stoppage) Canelo has only stopped JWW and WW who moved up.
Rating a guy is more than the names you have beaten, it's how you fought them win or lose when you face them. Canelo against his best competition has been outclassed by Floyd and won very, very close decisions. GGG has been knocking out everybody, even the guys who are in his weightclass not just the Rosado's who had to move up.
So needing a paid off judge and still barely getting a win is the same as KO'ing a guy? When they are both #2 in the division?

Style makes fight, for example: if Maidana was more competitive against May than Alvarez that doesn't mean automatically that Maidana is better than Canelo. Canelo fought with May with a horrible tactic, and I don't say that he is the better fighter but he is better than what he did on that night. And like it or not you are in minority with your thoughts on paid off judges and etc... Most of the casual and the hardcore fans think that Canelo won those two fights. Understand? They were legit wins. I don't say that that's the truth because that's an opinion too, but understand it that your opinion is just an opinion as well and if you are in minority with your opinion IMO you should rewatch those fights maybe not the majority of the boxing fans but you had it wrong first. But at least you shouldn't tell your minority opinions as facts.
And being an elite fighter is based on thoughts? I always put the fighters on P4P lists based on their resume. Sure the resume has a subjective ultimate as well but far more objective than "what I think about x or y". If you think by that logic that would be totally normal if somebody would consider Wilder as elite P4P top10 fighter, maybe he just fought with tomato cans and internet trolls but hey, if someone think that heis elite, why not?
This is why I try to be as objective as possible and put away "wht I think about" fighter and see just the resumes, the facts.

How the **** can Marquez be elite and Cotto not be? He lost to Mayweather badly, and it took him 40 rounds and steroids to finally beat Manny. He also has a loss to Chris John ffs... I'm not saying he isn't elite but you are discredited Cotto while giving Marquez a pass, bias as hell.
Marquez fought Manny to a stale mate in 3 fights and knocked him unconscious in the 4th. The John fight was a robbery in many people's minds. Cotto is great, I love the guy, he fought everyone in his day, he just came up short against the 2 ATG of his era. Never said he wasn't a great fighter, actually I think I said exactly that. I'm not biased, cotto is one of my favorites.
You could have done the same to Mayweather yet you chose to spend your time on nsb talking about Cotto? I would have been the professional boxer if I was you man.
It's funny Trout also admitted he lost to the better man after the fight. And tha was the guy who fought that said that not some troll online.
At the end of the day you back Cotto an will analyzed and interpret everything to suit an agenda. You want to call him elite and not Alvarez, fine they'll meet in the ring soon enough.
Well, my first goal was baseball and I hurt my arm. Then I tried boxing was at it for 6 months, hit a heavy bag one day and reinjured my shoulder. Some guys careers end in HS, others in college, others in the pro's... it's my fault for not taking care of my body. Not that I was fat just didn't ice it, and I never asked to be rested. It was also a different time, now I coach my kids baseball teams and they manage pitch counts. What I wouldn't give to have had that 15 years ago.
Back to the topic, Cotto has fought much better competition. It has nothing to do with a "Cotto agenda" its the fact that Canelos' best wins are Trout and Lara. Those guys aren't anywhere near the HoF and never will be, Cotto's best wins are against Mosley and Martinez, both HoF there really is no comparison.
I knew you were going to bring up Maidana, but no that guy is nowhere near elite. I could have done the same to Mayweather if I was to fight him and could use elbows, headbutts and lowblows as well. Also, Canelo's best wins (Trout/Lara) you just equated to Cotto's fight against Clottey and... well that's the only close fight Cotto's had where it could have gone either way that he won. Mosley was competitive but Cotto won that fight even if it was by a round or two. Mosley admitted as much after the fight, he said Cotto might have won by a couple of rounds or a maybe a draw. And that was the guy he fought not some biased troll on the internet.
Cotto may have only won 3 rounds against Floyd, but he never got schooled anywhere near as badly as Canelo did for one round like Canelo did the entire fight. The Trout fight is what it is, everyone has a bad night, Canelo just happened to beat Cotto's brother on his, it happens. Sadly for Ginger even on his best night he wouldn't be able to beat the Cotto.

My joke was better... GGG hasn't proven he is elite, but I think he is. I don't think Canelo is elite and he hasn't proven to me that he is. Mayweather is the elite, one guy was Cotto was competitve Canelo was not. Cotto has also beaten much higher quality competition than Canelo regardless of the loss to Trout.
Mayweather is an elite fighter, Canelo wasn't even competitive. Squeking out victories (with the help of a paid off judge) against Trout and Lara doesn't make you elite.

Your posts suggest classifying fighters elite is subjective and much everything around here lends itself to being biased.
You want to go off on triangle theories and classify Cotto as elite simply because he won 3 rounds against Mayweather and ignore he lost to Trout and Alvarez beat him. You'll also discredit his victory against Lara yet Cotto's best wins were competitive wins as well in his backyard where it could've gone either way.
According to you Cotto's claim to elite status was being somewhat competitive against Mayweather so I'm guessing you appreciate Maidana much more since he did enough to deserve an immediate rematch.

who has cotto beaten? a past prime mosley? one-eyed margarito? or the one-kneed sergio?
The Mosley Cotto beat was about 7 years younger than the one Canelo did, you really shouldn't even have brought that name up. One eyed Margarito is 10x's the fighter Angulo is and ever was. And one-kneed Sergio is levels above Trout and Lara combined.

There's only a few elite fighters..Manny and Floyd.. and Ward I guess if he ever fights again.
Cotto is a hall of famer of course but he lost to both and lesser guys.
GGG is a great fighter but he can't be considered elite until he beats the best.
Marquez is an elite fighter as well.
Canelo should be considered a great fighter, probably gonna be a hall of famer as well. May end up being Floyd best win.

So this thread failed from the get go since both Golovkin and Cotto aren't elite either more popular than anything by your standards.

Most people think that he really beat Lara on a tight fight and Trout too, so he's on the top of the super welter division which is one of the strongest divisions. So he's probably an elite fighter, put away your dislike and deal with it! Actually based on their resumes he's more elite now than GGG.

Gotta love Cotto but he doesnt beat what's regarded as the best at 154 or 160. GGG is elite only in the sense that he has been much better than his opposition... Though it's hard to deny him after a big Geale win I guess
He said elite fighters, not popular.
