Aside from GGG most of the top middleweights are non-punchers.
Cotto is a junior-middleweight who happens to hold the middleweight title
Soliman and Sturm are good fighters but not hard punchers
Macklin, Murray, Geale are good all arounders but not punchers
Stevens is a pretty good puncher but is a fringe contender.
Quillen has some pop but the jury is still out on him even though he holds that WBOgus belt.
Who will test his chin? He may have to move up to see
It's too bad ggg wasn't around in the past middleweight era. I think he would have been beaten plus it was a lot of great punchers.
It was Arthur Abraham, Kelly pavlik, Edison Miranda, Bernard Hopkins, jermain Taylor, Ronald wright etc
I think Kirkland is an interesting option if he doesn't get his head knocked off in the first few rounds of the fight, Kirkland has big-time pop and isn't scared to take a shot on the chin.
Kirkland goes away in the first round. Not the least bit interesting.

Problem with Kirkland is his chin, he can't take a shot.
One bomb from Golovkin would destroy him.
I'm interested in seeing Golovkin vs. Soliman so he can add another strap to his resume then try to force Cotto or Quillin's hand in a fight. Soliman would get KO'd rather quickly I believe though.
Maybe - but Soliman is actually a slippery f#kker with tricky movement. I don't really give him a significant chance at beating Golovkin , but I think he'd be likely to last a few more rounds.
I'm kinda torn - I do think that Golovkin should try to unify, but I also think that he beats everyone else at 160 with relative ease, so I'm also keen for him to seek out fights which would be more competitive, which basically means the top end at 168 - Froch ideally, or perhaps Bika, Chavez or Kessler (obviously Ward too if not for his legal issues).

Kirkland is an overrated puncher and I wouldn't say he's got big time pop. He is a grinder who typically relies on wearing opponents down with many shots.
That fight would test GGG's ability to cope with consistent pressure more than it would his chin in my view.

Does it matter that much if Lemieux's not good overall? It's not like more than a guy or two is giving GGG a competitive fight at 160, and it's hard to get less competitive than higher ranked guys like Macklin were.
As pointed out in several posts above, Lemieux is about the only other guy who can really crack at 160, but his losses really do call into question his overall ability as a boxer.
It's possible Lemieux has matured and developed, but I'd be wanting to see him in with someone a bit better than Guerrero before I think he's even remotely ready for Golovkin.
I think him moving up and fighting Carl Froch or Julio Ceasar Chavez, Jr especially the winner if the two ever fight each-other (Froch/JCC, Jr.). A lot of people are going to duck GGG until he becomes a mainstream name on ESPN.
Lemieux can crack. He is very limited though, nor does he take a good shot....he'd get stopped pretty quick.
Stevens has good power, but it wasn't enough at 160.
As for Quillin, pointless even talking about him. He is sh*t scared of Golovkin and would get the FUBAR treatment.
David Lemieux has power. That would be an exciting match at least.
This matchup would be nonstop action but I don't know where Lemieux stands exactly in the grand scheme of things. Perhaps he has to get a couple more good wins under his belt before he's considered. Lemieux is really the only guy at middleweight other than Golovkin with great power and he's currently only 25. I think Lemieux is also the only guy that won't be afraid to trade with Golovkin.
lol nothing is wrong its a weak divison only real threats have left.
Rosado was the only one to give him a fight lol, now he calling out Cotto. Only people with balls happen to be latino's.
Thats why an aussie just stepped up to fight GGG.
Forgot about Quillin, he has a decent punch, mainly his left hook.
No point of discussing that anyway he has no balls.
Danny Jacobs is a very underrated puncher too IMFO
Don't see how he's an underrated puncher given what's generally happened when he fought solid opponents. He couldn't budge prime Michael Walker, Smith, or Pirog, and he needed eight rounds and loads of punches to stop George Walton. Virtually everyone else has been a weak opponent, the type you'd expect a contender to stop.
As for the punchers at 160 for GGG to face.....I'd say Lemieux hits the hardest although he's generally limited.

Steven's has good power (overrated to the max IMO), Macklins got a bit of pop, Lemieux hits like a truck.
Other than that yeah they're all pretty feather fisted.
Stevens could crack a bit,, I think that was a solid test..
Quillen is about the only other guy at 160 that could be considered a decent puncher
Yea he can crack a bit but he is left hand happy depending on that check left hook...GGG nullified that and started to walk through him and take his heart
Also although Stevens can punch, the application of his power, combination punching and accuracy are not elite where he would have hit GGG enough to test his chin.
GGG is gonna continue to walk through these guys if he doesnt respect their power or boxing skills
