Golovkin - Middleweight.. The Kazakh Thunderbolt
Thurman - Welterweight.. One Time is the best time
Both have great power in either hands, along with good to great boxing ability/IQ.
They are both a bit avoided and rarely(if ever) challenged by the other top contenders in their weight class in the sport.
Thurman recently called out Amir Khan and I'm sure he's open to everybody.
Golovkin just called out Cotto, Quillin, and Soliman last night.
I'm yet to ascertain how much of a threat Thurman is in the division. He has had some good wins against a decent level of competition but is yet to face the very good fighters in his division.
Whereas Golovkin has beaten 2 top 10 middleweights as well as a whole host of challenger level competition. In fact, it's not just who he beat but how he beat them. Thurman has yet to be as destructive but he will have a harder time as welterweight is a much more packed division and middleweight is slowly starting to dwindle in top level talent.
The middleweight division hasn't been strong for well over twenty years.
Anyway, Thurman's a decent athlete and little else. He has the potential to be a poor man's David Haye but I don't hold much hope for him besides that.
"poor man's David Haye".....nice description. :fing02:
Middleweight division would be strong if the guys fought each other, just look at the past few years
1 serg/cott
2 ggg
3 sturm
4 quillen
5 Murray
6 geale
7 Stevens
8 rosado
9 barker
10 macklin
11 lee
12 Rubio
13 Chavez jr
14 n'dam
15 Jacobs
16 Taylor
A lot of good fighters over the past few years, it's just that the matchups aren't being made
Usually "threats" are contenders or up and comers. Since GGG IS the champ I'm not sure why "threat" is applied to him. So for me young Thurman is the threat!
As for the Wlad comment the heavyweight division has been week for many years. All you have to do is watch the heavies box and see how horrible they;
punch
move
condition
over all talent & skills
wins they may have over horrible competition
soft mentally
lack aggression
no in fighters
no combination punchers
lack of athleticism
..............just a terrible division that equals the 50's to early 60's.

so now middleweight is a weak division? incredible. it's just like the hate for wlad. wlad destroys good fighters at HW and all of a sudden it's a weak division.
I just don't understand what is it with GGG fans. Now 160 is a hot division? It's been a while since 160 was actually hot. GGG is a couple of years too late.
The top 3 weight divisions in recent years have always been 147, 168, and 140. Bantam was a great division when Mares, Darchinynan, Agbeko, Perez, Moreno were fighting eachother too.
160 was good from 2009 and down. When Sergio was reigning MW king in 2010+, there was absolutely no name value there. Pavlik had left, Williams went back down to 154, Winky was old and retired, Quillen was an up and comer. 160 was being carried by Martinez and Golovkin ONLY. That is NOT a hot division, when there's two good fighters there. A hot division is 147, 168 during it's Super 6 tourney and even now, 140 especially in 2009-2013, 135 was hot for a little while too.
130, 154, 160, CW, HW were weak divisions for a while and only 154 got out of the slump in 2011 when Cotto, Canelo brought some life to it with help from Lara, Trout. Kirkland vs Angulo also did 154 a lot of justice and gave it a lot of life in late 2011. And 2012 when Mayweather vs Cotto further attracted a lot of attention to 154.
Dey bums!!
In all seriousness, it's easily GGG. There's a quite a bit of fighters at 147 that could hand Thurman a loss while GGG, who seems to also be a better fighter, appears to have nobody to challenge him at the weaker division that is 160. I would replace Thurman with Rigo at 122, where he truly has nobody that poses a threat to his crown.
True but after Santa Cruz and Carl Frampton (the main two fights I wanna see) who else should Rigo fight?
Rigo is another guy currently with GREAT boxing skill/IQ and packs a damn good punch.

Golovkin is a much better fighter in a division that isn't very talented.
This, i don't pick anybody to beat GGG at MW. But at WW there is numerous fighters who could beat One time and i like Keith he is awesome.
