Sure you can try to go backwards and counter but that will only give them momentum and you may win but you would have to use a lot of energy and take some punishment...you have to stand up to the bully and mindfvck him.. Make him doubt his power and walk him down. Most pressure fighters can not fight going backwards and it will nullify their power and game plan.
Maidana would slip his shots and spin out in a pivot and hit Floyd with a left hook and then a straight right like he did to Lopez and leave Floyd reeling, giving him time to reset.
He might do that to joseito Lopez, but he isn't doing that to Floyd, not in his wildest dreams
Much like in the hatton fight, if you see Maidana getting walked down, it's over, Floyd has won..
I told my boys before hatton-Floyd, if hattons back touches the ropes, Floyd will win, it's basically over at that point.. And sure enough about the 7th rd hatton retreated to the ropes and Floyd opened up a combo on him.. The fight was over right then and there..
If maidana's back hits the ropes, the fight is done, he loses,, end of story

But it can be applied to that fight, because Maidana doesn't fight as well backing up.

Naw not about any fighter specifically..just wanted to make a boxing related thread to talk boxing

It worked for corrales vs Castillo..
Everyone thought corrales should try and box and look to outpoint Castillo, but he was like "dude gets stronger as the fight goes on, so I am going right at him from round 1"
Worked out for him pretty well
This is a thread relating to Maidana vs Mayweather II, but I keep telling larryx that it's going to be a war and he doesn't believe me lol.

Would you say GGG only knows how to fight one way and is this thread relating to him and Kovalev...

The jury is still out on them as we have yet to see them in with elite fighters
Most pressure fighters only know how to fight one way and that is coming forward

Exactly. Then you may try a plan like that on someone like Julio cesar chavez who was a pressure fighter and you get beat up trying to push him back because he can fight going backwards and beat you up while HE'S on the ropes. That game plan isn't solid. Everybody's different.
That is why i said "MOST"
Works both ways Tesla most guys of other styles only know how to fight one way too and aren't very good coming forward forget about beating a pressure fighter at their own game. They don't have the skill, ability, power, or fortitude and conviction necessary to accomplish that.

Yeah true to a certain point. It's because they aren't fighting their fight they are good at presure & when they don't fight their fight yeah they aren't as effective, but that can be done to any style boxer if you make him gift your fight. As some pointed thou not all presure fighters can bang a good example would be Juan Diaz I think, but I still wouldn't follow a presure boxer chances are it'll fall into his game & majority do pack power which is is why I think they choose that style. So much confidence in their power.
Broner is a True Warrior who gets undeserved criticism.
ok, let me write that down so I don't forget, jas is an actual Broner fan and not trolling. k, done, lol.
Look at how Bernard Hopkins fought Felix Trinidad, Kelly pavlik, Howard Eastman , shumenov...etc
It's all about playing to your own strengths too as well as exploring your opponents weakness . And if you can take your opponents best weapon and use it against them you have won the fight
wtf... a broner avi? Did you lose another bet?
Sure you can try to go backwards and counter but that will only give them momentum
Yes and then you can use that momentum against them.

Margarito/Mosley
Alvarez/Angulo
Good examples of this. These guys usually need rounds to warm up and to move forward to gain momentum on their punches. Walking them down or simply standing your ground limits their effectiveness.
Mosley was backing up and countering Margarito with bombs.

Keep it in the middle of the ring and circle him and when he does get you against the Ropes Clinch and either push him back to the middle of the ring or if you're not strong enough to push him to the middle of the ring turn him

Also TIMING THEM and Countering them, JMM fights his BEST against Pressure Fighters:

B-Hop is brilliant against Pressure Fighters As well because he has excellent timing and he is a good counter puncher

this is not really true. pressure fighters like ... I dunno provodkonov love it when the opponent stands toe to toe and tries to force them back ... bradley tried that in round 1. When bradley started moving he clearly won the rounds.
If your're evander holyfied and have a great chin and an awesome inside game then yeah it can work but for 99% it's not advisable to stand and trade and try to back up guys like provo, lucas etc etc
Exactly ......
