I really fear for the man, he cant be that broke........but man he is shot to death..........
but do u guys think he can pick up a world title at CW?? does he have one great performance in him??
Ah, he's another fantasy king lol
Yeah, a fantasy king, whatever that means. Probably because he is an ATG who suffered only one controversial defeat in his first 15 years, won titles through four divisions (skipping one) and was at or near the top of pound for pound list for a decade.
Roy was one of the greatest boxers to ever enter the ring. Anybody who doesn't know needs to watch the fights.
But he is past that and will get killed now. The heavier divisions are championed by killer punchers of the highest calibre, any championship contention is only ever gonna be on a "niche" basis of course...
Give it up Roy... Your reputation precedes you!!!
:lol1: it's kind of a strange point I'm making. Of course, REED gets it ;). Which is that after round 8 (and 9 and 10), I was seriously wondering if Jones was going to get stopped. That's what I mean by he was supposed to lose. But he somehow found something in reserve to pull it out. I knew that sh*t was not flying in a rematch and tabbed him to lose. To see Roy on his back damn near broke my heart. I vowed never to choose against him again, which has made for some embarrassing picks. F*ck it, I'll still take him over anyone else in a fantasy matchup and my only regret is that he was never in Knockout Kings.
Ah, he's another fantasy king lol
I think the guy is worth almost 100 Million dollars or something like that. HE is still fighting for the sake of pride and nostalgia.
he is not worth a 100 million dollars
I'm starting to feel like I did when Duran was old and fat and still fighting.
It's sad to see now.
At least Duran wasn't getting brutally ko'd by every fighter with a pulse..late 30s and beyond Duran was giving hell to Barkley, Vinny Paz, camacho
His last great performance was against Ruiz or Tarver I.
Yeah I agree,, those are some of his greatest wins
When Jones lost to Green, I knew it was over beating anything close to world class fighters. As my favorite fighter ever, I want him to retire before he gets a significant fight and gets wasted like he did against Lebedev again but then again, he is a man and nobody should be able to tell him how to earn his living as long as he's only hurting himself. (other than his family)
When jones lost tarver 3, I knew he was never gonna reclaim glory.. He seemed to fight just to survive and not to win.. By calzaghe, I thought he should just retire..joe best the hell out if him and was making him look horrible
Tarver I was not a great performance, he barely got through that fight and in all reality, many believe he lost it.
Tarver 1 was a great win,, Roy showed huge heart, something that was really never tested before in his career..
Tarver was a man possessed and Roy beat him.. You can't say it wasn't a great win
I know I've asked this question before, but how would Roy have done at CW back in 1998-2002?
I think he would have won titles, would have loved to seen him vs jirov or toney around that time at cruiser
Jirov would have given him his toughest fight, toney would have got schooled again by Roy, just too flat footed to ever catch Roy
He pulled out victory from the snares of defeat. On a night where he had nothing. I guess we all have different definitions of what a good performance is. BTW, "many" believe he lost is stretching it.
I agree, great fight for Roy, first time his heart and will to win were tested
He and Enzo Maccarinelli should fight in a "Let's see who gets comically KTFO first" match
I honestly would love to see that fight..
Check out his fight against Jeff Lacy. For one last time Jones looked magic!
I agree,, lacy was so shot and not good, that he made Roy look like it was 1994 all over again...
Roy dropped like 8 left hooks in a row..
Check out his fight against Jeff Lacy. For one last time Jones looked magic!
Yea it sure was :lol1:. He turned back the clock that night and embarrassed dude something awful. And that was a washed up Jones. Imagine if Lacy met Jones prime for prime? We're looking at a mid-round KO.
i agree its really sad, i don't know why he continues to fight is he in any money problems??

Then you misunderstood. What I mean is that Tarver had numerous advantages on that night and the right gameplan while Jones looked exhausted by the middle rounds. That's what. I meant by he was not supposed to win that night. So chill out and save your rants for Sunday. Friday is chill day.

gutsy and great are too completely different things.
I know, no one is saying RJJ didn't try that night, he did,e he had to dig deeper than he had in years but it was neither a great fight nor a great performance.
No, I don't believe most in the boxing business believe he lost it.
I had Jones winning 7-5 or 8-4 but Tarver was competitive in most rounds and took a lot out of Roy that night. Those were some bombs he ate in the eighth, which is why Jones coming on to eke it out in the championship rounds makes it a damn good win to me. He was not supposed to win that night.
I don't think you read what I wrote because none of what you posted is relevant to it.

Nothing worse than a fighter who slurs his words and can hardly move when he's middle-aged because he fought for a decade longer than he should have.
RETIRE.
Tarver I was not a great performance, he barely got through that fight and in all reality, many believe he lost it.

what are you on about? he had just beaten Ruiz and was regarded by most as P4P number one, his fame was at it's absolute peak, Kellerman and the HBO crew were on full RJJ **** sucking alert. How was he not supposed to win that night? He was the favourite lol stop fan boying bro and grow up. Tarver is a b level fighter who should never have made it that close against a guy as good as RJJ was supposed to be.
Yes there may have been weight issues and his age but all those excuses came after.

a fair few, especially those in the boxing business did believe he lost it, which was why there was such a furor for a rematch. Having said that, I personally believe he scraped by with a points win, a single point.

If this is what he wants to do then there is nothing anybody can do about it. If he gets seriously hurt then its because he's doing something he loves.
Boxing is his life and obviously he's willing to put his life on the line for it.
