In a street fight these dudes only throw punches or want to grab..if you can box and control distance and set your punches up you are a nightmare on these streets and yes people will want to shoot you... throwing punches and being able to dodge and or take them is a gift..people will fear you...fvck what these clowns say..if you can box you are a menace in your hood and NO ONE WILL WANT TO FIGHT YOU PERIOD...
It does when you're one on one in an open space. In the club it's different. Specially when you have Pepe, Juan, and Jose with their crew trying to fight you. Your version would be Keyshawn, Dwayne, Tyrone, and Jamal.
:haha: :haha:
It dont work to good , maybe if your a good boxer you can pull it of but I see fights being takin to the ground most the time. Where in close fighting and grappling is key. In theory what your saying makes sense but I wouldn't suggest to the average person to try and box in street fights.
This is somewhat of a myth in my opinion. In all the fights I've had only once did I end up on the floor and that was after being suckered punched by a bouncer and his mates...
That said I think being able to control a guy who gets too close by using Muay Thai style clinch work and good balance with it is really useful for avoiding ended up on the floor.
However Muay Thai alone I wouldn't recommend because those guys really are not so great with hands/defence or balance.
Boxing plus Muay Thai clinch work and you'll be set for pretty much all fights.
Like I told ya, Mayweather the best of this era would get his ass beat by Maidana in a streetfight.
Just cause we box and train for decades and **** doesnt mean we bulletproof like dude above us posted. It helps but it doesnt gurantee you a win it helps you cause believe it or not alot of people in the street still knuckle up and try to box more then they try that takedown pound game on you etc.
Why would Floyd get beat in a streetfight vs Maidana?

Lol, obviously you haven't been in many street fights. Boxing does not work on the streets, especially when you are being rugby tackled to the floor and then having to struggle to get back up, boxing does not come into it.
Boxing works well in street fighting against untrained street fighters. Not sure I would want to try and fight a well trained MMA fighter in a street fight...
I have seen boxing work well a couple times in a street fight. But the guy, my friend was a very good boxer. If a novice tried boxing in a street fight it would not work well.
LOL ok, Good luck with them boxing skills when you get taken down and pounded out.
Fought a few boxers when I was in the service, great foot work good skills, acted like a chicken with their heads cut off the moment it hit the ground.
Sorry to tell you, Boxing is excellent for the ring, and when your facing an average joe on the street , the moment they run into a person with some striking an grappling skills they are dead in the water.
Being a trained boxer will beat up 90% of the "experienced" street fighters. You gotta take in that 10% for these clowns who throw wild haymakers and can possible land. I would probably even bump that down to 5%. And even that, boxers are used to getting hit and hitting while street fighters most of the time fight for 30 seconds and the fight is done. Is a being a street fighter some kind of profession? lol. Boxers actually fight with other people who know how to fight while street fighters usually beat up people who have no combat sports training. A trained boxer will lay out any "tough-guy" street fighter with one left hook easy.
Now a Boxer vs a MMA fighter is a different story. That debate can go on forever with both sides favoring compelling arguments. As far as the grappling and taking down is concerned, whats to say a boxer cannot get out of it if a street fighter puts him in one? Boxers are not just limited to throwing hands, they are supremely conditioned athletes that cover all aspects of athletics, mobility, strength, endurance, power, etc.
The only situation that I could possible foresee is if a boxer gets tense because he's not in his usual environment (ring, gloves, etc). Can't believe there is even a question as to who would win. Boxer easy.
Where I'm from, it isn't a good idea to get into street fights. Most people own guns and it isn't uncommon to see some people walking around with machetes.

When I was a teen while boxing I had 8 street fights 7 ko's lost one when I was jumped by 7 gang bangers so I say boxing works. You have timing conditioning and can see everything coming cause street brawlers telegraph everything
most of the people in this thread probably never been in a fight or won one so discuss something you do know .. if your a skilled boxer there a 95% chance yur gunna beat the sh 1t out of some random guy looking for some trouble .. but then again you dont see skilled boxers beating up peole becuase yur hands are weapons once you take up the sport ..
Boxing is a great skill to have but if the other guy gets in on you, then you have to have a good "fight or flight" response and this is a natural thing. You attack them before they attack you. The dude comes in to tackle you and you should have your fingers digging into his throat before he even has his arms around you. Once he is on the ground, you should have already smashed his head into the ground at least 2 or three times. If you haven't made it that far by then, you don't have a fast enough response to stimuli.
Boxing isn't shlt in a street fight and i'll take jiu jitsu over it because now a days people go for the takedown and ground n pound. People say it will only take a boxer 1 punch but if you don't land that one punch your screwed on your back. Only way you'll land that 1 punch KO 100% of the time is if you sucker punch someone (coward way).
boxing is very useful in a street fight. Especially if the boxer is strong, can take a punch ...and deliver hard punches.
MMA is overated in a street fight. A large part of MMA is ground tactics... In a street fight, that can be useless because once you're on the ground, it's a good chance it's over. The guy will jump on you or the guy's buddies.
Sambo (Russian martial arts), FMA (Filipino Martial Arts), Muay Thai, and knife defense...would be useful in a street fight... As they are very versatile arts with significant hand to hand attack and defence applications.
