Guillermo Rigondeux made a major statement in what is likely his final fight with Top Rank, one that will have fans talking for weeks to come.
For once, talks won't center around his latest fight lacking action and drama, though it doesn't necessarily mean the conversation will carry a positive vibe.
The defending World 122 lb. champion scored a 1st round knockout of Sod Kokietgym, Saturday evening (local time) at the Venetian Macao in Macau, China. The manner in which the ending was produced drew parallels of Floyd Mayweather's 4th round knockout of Victor Ortiz nearly three years ago, sparking the debate where the line exists between protecting yourself at all times and landing a sucker punch. The difference is Rigo pop him when refusing to touch gloves Mayweather smacked Ortiz when he was looking at the ref
Let me stop your BS right there.
The fight was already on. It didn't matter if Ortiz was looking up at the ceiling or at Cortez. Cortez called time in. End of discussion.
It's pretty hard to see but it looked like it was a right hook followed by a short straight left, you could be right though.
If you watch the replays the left is behind his earmuffs. No way was that a straight left.
Ref should have given Kokietgym more time, he was obviously still dazed from the headbutt. But bottomline is : don't try to touch gloves with your opponent unless you're far enough to defend yourself if he tries to sneak a shot. Kokietgym learned this the hard way.
That wasn't a 1-2. Both the right and left were hooks.

headbutt and sneaked a 1,2 to a defenseless fighter.
I do have to give him props he recreated the Ortiz vs Mayweather bout in 1 round.

Protect yourself at all times. I don't understand why some boxers just want to touch gloves in there when the other guy is trying to take your head off.
This doesn't give Rigo any positive press. It was a cheap shot that he was able to take advantage of. He is way to skilled to be using these types of tactics. Ppl may talk about it because it is a lil controversial but is not going to raise his stock.
Yea now that you mention it I do see the resemblance! Lol
De pinga! El Butler haha. We should ask Tyson if he needs one for his next event so he can serve those people eating down there.

there was no damn difference..ref said time in and fight in both instances
looks like a legit KO to me....I don't get it...Rigo gets a 12 rounds UD he gets hate. he wins by KO he gets hate....Maybe he needs to win the old fashion way....either with a judge or two on his promoters payroll...or with phantom-punching power...gimmie a break!!:fing02:
Some people and double standards
Maidana throws a knee, low blows, rabbit punches, shoves his opponent through the ropes, hits on the break and after the bell ... but it's ok, it's just how he fights.
Canelo has a judge in his pocket more often than not, but that is also part of the game.
Rigo wins by UD , he is boring.
Wins by K.O. in round one with a perfectly legal combo , he's a cheat.
What was he supposed to do? tell his opponent " it'd be awfully considerated of you to lift your hands here, and I'd be most obliged to you if you let me hit you clean, but I'm not mean "
IMO the ref (obviously and clearly inexperienced at this level) skroo-ed up by not giving Kokietgym more time to recover. Only the fighter knows how bad the butt was. We don't. We can speculate and dismiss the fighter as a bum. Doesn't make it so. I like Rigo, great boxer, good power etc etc, but this is not a good way to win the fight.
People mistake his patience for lack of killer instinct. Watch what he does to Ramos once he has him hurt. Then go watch him chase Donaire while Donaire runs for his dear life in the last round.
Rigo doesnt look for the KO. He lets it come to him. That's his philosophy. You would think a guy with power like him would be constantly looking for the KO. But I guess he knows that's been other people's downfall as well.
The guy has 9 kos in 14 fights thats about 65% KO ratio! what more killer instincts do people want? Btw when he doesn't knock people out is bc their fighting just to survive!
In the 5 non kos he's knocked down 3 of them!! Only 2 were abeko who was a shell the whole fight and donaire who was afraid to exchange and running for dear life in the 12th.
Did anyone watch this on TV Azteca? Chavez is so bad he's good.
Announcer: Looknongyangtoy is really hard to pronounce....
Chavez: Let me give it a try... CHINGCHONGCHINGCHONCHING!
Announcer: What was Kokietgym expecting from Rigondeaux? A hug?
Chavez: Yeah and a kiss!
I have no problem with the KO, like I had no problem with Mayweather doing what he did to Ortiz.
I am just glad we finally saw a killer instinct in Rigo. This Rigo I would pay to watch.

You cant give green or red k when you have red k yourself, even though it says you did, on the persons profile it will only come up as neutral.(grey k) and grey k does not add or deduct points from anyones rep.
No regular poster even has enough rep power to affect someone else's rep. It's useless

Bahaha o man that was some sneaky $h!t. Rigo wasn't bout to let the judges do him like they did to Lara especially seeing where he was fighting. Saw a window and jumped right through!! Bahahaha no lie that was fkd up still. Mayweather at least gave Ortiz a second or two to get his hands up before he popped him, Rigo used the touching of the gloves as the first punch of his fight ending combo.
Ortiz never got his hands up bro. We already posted pictures of that. Sod on the other hand, did have his hands up.
