I like this fight even at Marquez's advanced age. We all know Khan is much faster but timing seems to be Amir's Kryptonite. I believe there are very few boxers who can time a hard counter as well as the Great Marquez.
I'm fully aware that Bradley outboxed Dinamita handily, but I believe Bradley was able to get some work done on the inside that contributed to that performance. I don't think Khan will be effective inside against Juan.
In closing, I am picking Marquez by KO here and I believe that he must stop Khan to win. Either that, or fight in Vegas, San Antonio, or Mexico! Lol
Thoughts?
Conventional wisdom says you are right, I might be going with my heart here but I just think Juan catches up to him and stops him at some point. But, I picked wrong in Canelo-Lara (I guess lol), and I certainly didn't see Cotto crushing Sergio at MW. I got the Gamboa fight right though! In other words I could easily be dead wrong. :)
Ive been wrong many times too with my predictions and there's a good chance i could be in this one once again..you could never count jmm out
Before jmm put pac to sleep i was convinced khan uds him. With khan's predictabilty with his combos and jmm excellent timing i think he can land big bombs quite frequently. But i expect khan to limit his punches and do a lot of cliching with jmm getting forced to be the agressor since khan has longer reach and can land from a distance, i have to favor khan to beat him..

Like he was scared of engaging against Collazo and Maidana?
Don't play coy with me :lol1: he engages in the offensive game plenty of times, he isn't doing a Lara put it that way.
Yes Khan utilizes foot work and shoots in with combinations and moves out but he actually is a pretty offensive fighter when you watch him.
You don't knock Collazo down several times when you're not sitting down on your punches.
You're comparing Collazo and Maidana's styles to Marquez, really? Much different fighters from JMM, and styles make fights. Khan will play it safe if at all possible. He's not going to make the same mistakes he did against Garcia while in with an older but more ring savvy veteran.

Both guys have the ability to engage. Let's not forget Marquez has dished out a few brutal beatings as well. It's just not either guy's usual temperament.
Boring, boring fight. Marquez would have to press because Khan would always be on the move and unwilling to engage. I think Khan could get the nod here, but it'd be a dreary affair. Jauns age is starting to catch up, but he's still a great fighter so it would be no surprise if he won.

Khan would easily outbox him throughout a 12rd shutout, maybe JMM could take 2/3rounds?
That is at a push I just don't think JMM style is suited for beating someone like Khan.

Good point! I hadn't really considered Khans temperament is more of a stick and move and setting the pace style instead of tending to press the action and engage. Although Khan is capable of this, it's not his usual temperament and given the fact he would be fighting Marquez gives me no reason to think he would change that.
Khan would undoubtably be constantly racking up points and it would be up to Marquez to change that. Unfortunately, Marquez wouldn't have a guy constantly pressing him to counter. That's when the X factor comes in. Can Khan resist the urge for 12 rounds to begin to engage with Marquez? Does he have the mental fortitude to stick to the game plan against a brilliant, crafty veteran?

Khan outboxes Marquez, Nacho and Juan scream robbery as usual.
Again, skill wise, this SHOULD happen. BUT you are giving Khan credit for an ability to stick to a game plan without deviating. Something that he has failed to do on numerous occasions.
Ask professor Nacho...he gets cold feet...
I can imagine Khan making him look old, small and slow
Although never count out Marquez...especially this new 'rejuvenated' Marquez...
If small Bradley can easily see Marquez's counters and outpoint him then Khan sure can...
It was an interesting match up at 140 before, but sadly marquez thinks it was a dangerous fight for him at that point (which it really was), especially since he was pushing for pac that time. But Im picking jmm against khan at 140 and below. Marquez just like pac or even more than pac has trouble with opponents going backwards, in ex. Bradley and floyd. Khan however doesnt have the discipline to fight a fight like that. He has the tendency to bang, because he believes in his superior offense, but always overestimates his chin. If they fight today, i dont know. Its as interesting as pac vs khan, floyd vs khan, tim vs khan. Maybe i just really love boxing.
I'm glad you guys are intrigued by this, too. I was thinking about guys that Khan might have problems against last night and I couldn't think of too many as Amir is definitely a fast boxer with serious skills. You mentioned Amir's discipline or lack thereof and that further underscores my point that Dinamita would have a good chance of stopping a lackadaisical Khan.
Khan is all wrong for JMM. Khan would pitch a shutout.
You don't think Khan struggles against intelligent counterpunchers with great timing? I agree that from the outside, this should be a mismatch, but Juan is great at setting traps and Khan would definitely have to be careful.

JMM knocks him out based on how he sits on his punches now.
JMM ducked Khan a few years ago however when Khan had hype around him.
I wonder who JMM is facing next. Abregu? He probably still does not want to face Provodnikov.
I agree! This fight to me would be very interesting. I personally thought Algieri outboxed Provo and started to time him after he survived those shaky early moments. Ruslan is vulnerable but I'm not sure Marquez would be excited about fighting the guy that put Bradley in a wheelchair. But, styles make fights. If Algieri could somewhat figure out Provo, maybe Juan could too.
