Whenever a boxer says this it makes me think that they don't know how to cut off the ring. Which Canelo does not know how to do. Angulo does a better job of cutting off the ring than he does. This fight should have been a draw just so that neither of these dudes got a W out of that mess last night. One wouldn't engage and the other had no clue how to make them to. Turrible.

This Angulo comparison is just wrong.
Lara was more willing to trade and let his hands go against Angulo than he was against Canelo could he had done a better job probably but when a guy won't engage at all it's not just about cutting off the ring, Lara wanted to avoid exchanges so he did by moving w/o offensive purposes.
This is not about canelo to be honest, i was massively disapointed in Lara. I have being told he boxes but everytime i have stayed up to watch him he has disappoint me in the way he "Boxes", I was expecting this fight to be his coming out party, a fighter who has been avoided etc so we are told, but he shows up and just threw the jab without doing enough IMHO to make people say hmmmmm.
I remember Winky wright using his only opportunity to make a statement after getting ducked for so many years, I rememember Hopkins doing the same but Lara just is a basic fighters in the sense that he doesnt do much to get decisions. I saw Rigo against Nonito and i was like yep thats what i want to see in a boxer/mover, am not telling boxers to stand and trade like lunatics but please show people the real sweet science.
I agree with this. Lara looked like Rigo without the offence. It was frustrating because not only was he refusing to create opportunities, he was refusing to take opportunities that were right there infront of him.
Lara was so afraid, he seemed like a deer in the headlights or a cat that flinches at its own shadow. He ran outrageously against Canelo. He did not run as much against Molina, who doesn't have much punching power or against Angulo who he felt was too slow to worry about as much.
But he was terrified to let Canelo stay long in punching range. I don't think he is a worthy champion for that reason nor do I think he won on the basis of his so-called edge in landed punches. You say Canelo's punches didn't all land cleanly but neither did Lara's. He caught a lot of gloves and didn't hit as hard.

lara has no fire in him, canelo's grit and will won him the fight
Canelo had to change his style for the Lara fight similar to how Trout had to change his style, Trout was not successful, Canelo was successul.
Lara is king. The paying audience should enjoy his style whether they like it or not. Lara has slavish fans who don't expect anything from him other than be himself. Every opponent of Lara should adapt to his style, take it or leave it. Trout, who has similar style, had to change his style for the king. Otherwise, the paying audience would boo them both. Trout had conscience. Poor guy was so awkward chasing Lara. He paid dearly for it. He could have just stucked to his style, but Lara is the master, he the slave.

nobody ever said Canelo could cut off the ring, in fact most said pre-fight that he had never shown he could do it
canelo is more of a counter-punching boxer/puncher, dissimilar to Cotto in his prime where he was more of an aggressive boxer/puncher

Watch how much success Lara had vs Trout and then compare that to the Canelo fight, he did way more circling the ring rarely letting his hands go from rounds 4-10 after Canelo made the decision to focus on the body since the head wasn't there
again, canelo isn't a come forward GGG/Provodnikov fighter, but he had to alter his style to beat Lara, I give him credit

Canelo should hire a new trainer that could teach him how to do that. Nacho Beristain comes to mind.
Having a great mind like Nacho in his corner will definitely benefit Alvarez, but I don't know that he would be the best option as far as a trainer who can improve that part of his game.
Marquez has been with Nacho his whole career and he has always struggled with boxers simply because he's not at his best being the aggressor and forcing the fight.
Canelo fans cant face the fact he doesn't know how to punch while coming forward, cant set up traps coming forward, cant bob and weave coming forward.
The fight would be x10 easier for Canelo IF HE HAD THESE TOOLS IN HIS SKILLSET.
Lara consistently shows he is a very good ONE DIMENSIONAL fighter, but Canelo was not good enough to consistently stop that one dimension.
this dude definitely ran. did you see the crazy jukes and feints and ankle breakers he put on canelo? he did only to get by him and run some more. if he did those moves and punched after, thats good outboxing. instead he did those fakeouts only to move more, do more fake outs, throw a jab, move and fake out some more. thats running to me.
I agree, both deserve blamed for a sloppy fight! If you're as good as your promoter say you are...LEARN HOW TO CUT THE FUKIN RING OFF!
Carlos Molina was able to do it against Lara! Could not and when he did, he himself got reluctant to throw punches and they both was just standing in front of each other with their guard up
Great fighters can adjust and figure out ANY STYLE, they don't depend on Judges and then get on the podium during the post fight conference and blame their opponent.
It is not your opponent JOB to fight the way you want him to fight so you can look good, it is your job to figure your opponent out. Canelo did adjust an started going to the body so I give him credit for that at least.
Exactly only looks like running when you getting mesmerized by the footwork, and cant cut off the ring and just end up chasing so the other guy keeps dancing and tagging.
Like I said none of these dudes should have won last night. A draw should have happened. Both of these fighters added up didn't throw 1000 punches. That is freaking horrible. :wtf:
Not everybody can cut the ring off like Miguel Cotto, bro. It's a special skill, some fighters just don't have it.

Angulo did a good job on Lara when they fought. Even though he quit he put him down twice if I remember right.
