Issues about gloves aside, when the bell rings, has Maidana got any chance?
What would he do differently?
Im not sure I buy Floyd's reasoning that he wanted to give the fans entertainment and thats why he Maidana got some success early on. So saying that, Maidana needs to work on his stamina and hope he doesnt gas out after 6/7 rounds this time. He needs to conserve energy for the latter part of the fight.
I really, really don't think it's as simple as Floyd choosing not to be on the ropes. Maidana made him the first time, and will make him in the rematch. It's not like it's hard to get Floyd there, it's hard to keep him there. Maidana can and will again.
Maidana did a few things right in the first fight that had nothing to do with any tactical decision on Mayweather's part.
Once Floyd went to the middle of the ring he took over
This reminds me of post fight Cotto, everyone said Floyd legs were gone and coupled with time in prison, he will not look good in his next bout. Then he washes Guerrero in artistic, dominant fashion, using the most beautiful display of footwork seen in a while. This is where everyone starts saying it was due to Guerrero being scared to throw. Then he washes Canelo the same way at a higher weight class and mixes in more counters.
Now here we go again, Floyd said pre-fight he was not going to move in the fight, he didn't and people say he has no legs, Maidana made him fight that way(without landing much). Can wait to see the results and the rematch post fight of the undeserved rematch. Public perception of the casual is a strong influence of match ups. Shows the viewer usually have brains of mush *****.
It helped that he didn't fight Cotto again. Guerrero and Alvarez aren't Cotto. They don't fight like he does.
If he simply dances around Maidana in the rematch, then Floyd will be proven right that he chose to fight that way.
I'd say Maidana has a little better chance this time around, he actually has been in the ring with Floyd already giving him the chance to have seen his speed and defense and offensive tendencies. That works the other way also.
IMO Like JMM he should work on taking advantage of a opening that Floyd has that almost landed in the first fight. The problem is Floyd's ring IQ is so high, once he sees Maidana is trying to counter that opening I'm sure he'll stop.
As long as he swings his punches he will always have the puncher's chance. I think this time around Floyd won't go to the ropes and will make it a very boring affair

I think Maidana has a great chance for several reasons and I'm curious to see how an old Floyd looks turning around and fighting so soon after a fairly grueling encounter.
maidana's wide, looping punches became predictable later on and he smothered himself his work inside. if he mixes in the jab and straight punches that robert has been teaching him along with his awkward mauling, i think he'll have a lot more success in the rematch. he has to keep alternating between both styles to keep mayweather guessing.
And please stop with the retardness, Maidana did not beat Floyd the first time. He did better than expected and as the underdog people tend to give him more credit.
Floyd wins 10-2 this time
How did you score the fight? Most fans and media had it 7-5 Floyd.
Personally I watched it drunk and emotionally thought Maidana won the 1st time. Second time, I watched it sober and tried to be as unbiased as possible and scored it a draw.
I'm not a big Floyd fan so it's hard for me to score a close fight for him, my heart always sees him losing.
I'm not mad that he didn't lose officially, I don't think Maidana did enough to take his belt. Yes I'm old school in my belief that you gotta "beat" the champ to take his title. Especially a man of Floyd's credentials.

Was he tense in the first fight and throwing wildly? He seemed a lot more economical and controlled than Im used to seeing him. I agree he still used most of his energy in the first half of the fight tho and im confident his team will work on that. I think i remember reading them saying this in fact.
After the fight TMT (The Maidana Team) acknowledged that they were focusing on landing on Floyd more than hitting him hard, so in a way Maidana was holding back, but now that they know he can land on Floyd, I feel Maidana will jump on him quickly and maul him to the ropes.
You guys sound very naive in thinking Maidana can just out hustle Floyd and win a close fight.
Dude he got DOGGED on the cards 8-4, 9-3, and one draw in the 1st fight.
He would have to DOMINATE Floyd over the course of 12-rounds in a one-sided fashion, or KO Floyd to take out the P4P champ in his BACKYARD with two huge money making fights left on his contract.
And, I'm not even just conspiring against Maidana, its just the cold hearted truth and not an easy thing for a Maidana fanatic to cope with, I understand.
I don't buy it either. If Maidana gets his gloves this could be an even closer fight. People keep using the excuse like against Cotto and Maidana that he "chose to bang". B.S. Floyds legs aren't what they use to be. He relies on pure defense, timing and counter punching.
The only reason he out boxed Guerrero and Canelo so easily is because of this.
1. He out boxed Guerrero because Guerrero isn't much of an inside fighter to begin. He throws from the outside to wear you down and then gets inside. He couldn't hit Floyd from the outside and ate right hands anytime he took a step close which gave Floyd time to side step out of the way.
2. Canelo refused to throw combinations, refused to be aggressive, tried to outbox Floyd which made it that much easier for Floyd to pick him apart.
Maidana is an inside fighter from birth and will get inside and be aggressive not matter what it takes. I think it will be another close war because Floyd can't run, he'll have to out point him again. Maidana ' s just a tough fight for Floyd at this point in his career.
NO, he's just better than both even in his late 30's. It was nothing they did wrong, just nothing they could do right. Mayweather might of had something to do with it. Jesus christ.
the rematch will look more like a continuation of the 6th round onwards of their first fight.
No as long as chino is fresh he's a problem. Question for this fight, for me, is can Chino stay fresher, longer?
