No shiz Gamboa...I want him to train me too. :lol1:
Might be kinda awkward for 50 Cent considering he built his gym just a few blocks away from Floyd's gym with intentions of all his fighters training there. If Gamboa opts to train with Sr. it would be at Floyd's gym. Not sure if 50's ego would allow that.
I think Sr would be a perfect trainer for Gamboa, he can completely revamp him defensively plus also tighten up his offense.
But the Cuban has to buy in 100% and be willing to do what he's told. If there is going to be conflicts with his dad telling him one thing and Floyd Sr telling him something else then that is no good and won't work.
I'm sure Floyd Sr. would do a good job with Gamboa. He was Joan Guzman's trainer when he moved up in weight. Guzman was a beast at 122, but when he moved up to 130 (basically jumping two weight divisions) he had to make some adjustments to his fighting style. Floyd Sr. did a great job with him. Watch Guzman vs. Humberto Soto.
That could work, only thing is that Sr is strict, might be too strict for some like Joan Guzman and Chad Dawson but both fighters when they was training with Sr they both became World Champions and both looked their BEST during their time with Floyd Sr.
Gamboa really don't need to change anything about this fighting style though he just needs to move down in wait back to 126-130 and I think he will be just fine.
I really would've preferred that they had hired Mayweather upon signing for the Crawford fight. I'm one of the many fans that had been calling for a change in coaches. Despite Yuri's defense of his father, 50 must've insisted on another trainer.
vs salido he could have been much better
not making an issue to the ref about low blows
not telling loma to lowblow back
not telling loma to utilise his quickness in the exchanges like mayweather does
Good point. I think overall it was just a bit too much/overwhelming for Loma at that point.
There wasn't much adjustment in the mid rounds but they figured it out eventually (too little too late) but he looked really good in the 12th round and hurt Salido.

Yeah, they're looking at bringing Floyd Sr into the Gamboa camp, but it seems he'll be an "addition" to Yuri's father Carlos. I don't know what they mean by that. Does the elder Gamboa remain as head coach, or does he remain as assistant? I guess we'll know if or when Floyd Sr is hired.
Yuri has been adamant about keeping his father as his trainer. The statement at the bottom of that article is a reprint from his Facebook page. Gamboa has defended his dad very poignantly.
I actually think Loma's father would be a perfect trainer for Gamboa

I think Sr. may get criticized too much for that. He use to throw alot of combos when he fought and in every interview now he says that Jr. needs to let his hands go more and put punches together. I dont think he would try to take away Gamboa's offense to much but I dont think he will just let him swing wildly either
I just think there are better guys out there for him. I don't know which guy is the exact perfect fit, because a lot of them have their pros and cons, but I feel like Floyd Sr. is the most prone to neuter his style.
Kind of like what Steward does to a lot of fighters. It works on some guys, but not for others. I feel like Gamboa falls under the others category.
Not enough offense/defense transitioning. Someone that can optimize his strengths would be the best. Not someone that would neuter him. Everytime you neuter a fighter, they look hesitant and confused in the ring, because they're trying to look a certain way instead of fighting.
