Canelo wants to take back Mexican holiday fight dates from Mayweather

Cinco de Mayo is about as Mexican as Taco Bell. And nobody "owns" a date.

Even Floyd knows the threat is real. That is why he is talking about a big May surprise now. Unless he offers Cotto more to fight him, which still might not be enough because the fight might have to be on HBO if the reports are true about the deal Cotto signed with them, then there is no one he can realistically fight that would be a bigger fight than Canelo/Cotto.

See but you chalking it up to being floyd Mayweather darwing power and not the date lol. The Hispanic and mainly mexican public has proven they will buy and attend all fight on that date and that just a fact that goes back the JCC. Mayweather only started doing numbers on those dates. Their is a reason Mayweather would not fight on 4th of july weekend, or on labor day weekend? those are two huge american dates. Canelo-Cotto would probably break 1 million buys but that's the max, and the price won't be as much as a Floyd PPV. I still doubt the revenue breaks a Floyd PPV. Even if Mayweather-Maidana did 850-900K, it still likely did over 60 million in PPV revenue, plus another 14M or whatever at the gate.the problem is if you put those 2 fights on the same date floyd wont even draw what he did last time vs chino... on cinco de mayo latinos will go for cotto-canelo...

Trust if Floyd wanted to fight May 3rd the MGM would buy out golden boy for the date before risking out on Floyd Mayweather super fights economics especially with the winner of Cotto Canelo being on the horizon for Floyd anyways.
