If Hopkins manages to beat Kovalev and Stevenson then retires

Does he have a shot to be a top 10 ATG?? I have currently have him at 19 right now (http://www.boxingscene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=608842) but those two wins, especially if they are not controversial, would have him move above Tunney and possibly Wilde on my list.

actually Kovalev is an easy fight for Hopkins, that if father time doesnt catch uo to him. Stevenson would be more dificult because he is a southpaw. But you need volume to beat B-Hop Neither guy have that. So it wont surprise me if Hopkins schools them both.

That doesn't make any sense. Even the guys who are with Haymon but not signed to Golden Boy have been fighting under the Golden Boy banner as their promoter for that specific show. But after the show/event is over, they are not signed to any promoter. So for all of Hopkins' fights, he's being promoted by someone. I don't know who exactly, but he is under someone's promotional banner for that one night. I have to assume it's Golden Boy because Schaefer is always in attendance at the pressers/weigh in/fights, etc,. yea its gbp ....fight by fight basis......

When he fights he fights under a PROMOTER. There is no ifs ands or buts. You MUST HAVE A PROMOTER to be in a televised fight. He WORKS for Golden Boy Promotions so it's under assumption he's promoted by them. Plus in every Hopkins fight I would always see Schaefer in the background. he does not have a contract with gbp for them to promote his fights search up a recent bernard hopkins interview with sweet science....

It's a generous way of saying that a fighter can still make a mark. Some times fighters don't come to the forefront until later in their career (for whatever reason). If Kovalev loses to Hopkins and then clears out the light heavys and reigns supreme for another 6 years and 20+ fights then he might make it as a HOF. He might. He might not. As said earlier - it's a generous way of saying "let's wait until his career is done before we evaluate his career." i already said if he loses to a 50 year old hopkins, he would also lose to andre ward.....which means he wouldnt be clearing out the division.......

It is actually being discussed now Numerous fights get discussed very few of them happen. Kovalev/Stevenson was also discussed the point being with the bs politics involved I won't believe till I see the in the ring.

Does he have a shot to be a top 10 ATG?? If he beats them AND they turn out to have good/HOF careers then a case could be made. However his loses to Calzaghe (close but deserved IMHO) and Taylor will be sticking points to a lot of people. Ultimately TOP 20 is F**KING awesome. At this level it's like comparing Michel Jordan with Kobe with LeBron. Each are fantastic.

i think if you really look at it, Hopkins does not have a lot of high quality wins. certainly not enough to be talked about as a top 10 all time. Trinidad was a great win. DLH was not. He didn't belong at middleweight and was really coming off of a lose to Sturm. His middleweight comp was weak. his longevity is amazing though and that has to count for a lot. IF he would have beaten Roy during the 60/40 time I think a case could be made.

calzaghe yes wouldve been a great feather in his cap, but yes he lost to dawson n taylor x2, those guys are good not great fighters. beating those anyway wouldnt boost him to the top ten not close.... great MW and Lhw champ .... undeniable ATG, but he will be no.3 in this era, no question. his MW title run is great stuff, but some weak defenses and a lil overrated when u start calling it the GOAT title defense.

you already asked this, the answer is no. both floyd and manny will both be quite ahead of hopkins historically all said and done

Kovalev is tied to HBO and his promoter is suing Al Haymon/Golden Boy Promotions. I'm almost positive Bernard is promoted by Golden Boy and if not, he's with Haymon so either one won't work. hopkins isnt signed to golden boy or al haymon - thats a fact....
