I went to watch transformers 4 today since my dad wanted to watch it. (Please do not make the same mistake save yourself the 3 hours of life ) . Anyway I saw a sign for Canelo Vs Lara, and it will be played there. I have never gone to the movies to watch a fight before always buy them at home, is it worth it? Or Im i better of at my comfy house on my not as big,but pretty big screen?
I figured ill spend about the same at home or the movies anyways, once you account for everything so money doesn't really matter to me, but im wondering about the experience if its worth it going, or Im I better of staying at home?.
Not really im a microwave cook, and dont have any good vices XD. It would probably be my Dad and myself he is the only one that lives close that likes boxing like myself, or that I dont want to shoot when we he talks about it. Like I said money is no object, but i do see myself getting annoyed if people are being annoying at the movies like people are saying they are. I rather be at home then, where my dad and I can be the loud annoying ones all we want. I just figured it could be fun to watch it on a super big ass screen with some over priced pop corn just to change it up this time, but if other people who done it didn't like it I must not be missing anything.
Your last sentence makes the choice obvious...so go for it. Remember YOLO, You Only Live Once...so, as you said, "change it up this time" and try the new experience..."it could be fun." Forget what others' negative experiences/opinions are. It's all subjective and relative to the quality of the theater and its patrons at the particular place and time, and what your personal values are. Your city might have a better, state-of-the-art movie theater and culture of boxing fans than others. You won't know until you try out the new experience. You WILL be "missing anything," specifically the change-up & a new life experience, if you let a few negative opinions on the matter keep you stagnant with the same ol' same ol' stay at home fight night. Just tell your dad...YOLO.
'Nuff said.
Watched Mayweather/Mosley at a theater only because I had a free Fandango ticket and it was alright. Would much rather be at home or with group of friends family in front of a TV.
Where the hell do you guys live?! There's not a theater in Dallas (or any other major metropolitan area for that matter) that doesn't sell alcohol.
You in texas boy I live in jersey no alcohol in theaters here. Hell if I get pulled over, and I have a box cutter in my pocket i better explain clearly a box cutter is for opening boxes. Sounds funny, but it's not if I was to say something like "its for self defense in case i get attacked" I can be charged with Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
I just can't see myself watching a fight in the same place as Floyds ratchet fan base.
That was not nice.
I'd prefer to watch at home, but as I said in another thread, my brother works at a theater showing the fight, and I can watch for free. I'll be taking advantage of that. Maybe I can sneak in a flask.

It's a good experience, you should try it out at least once. I went to see Floyd v Marquez at a local theater and thoroughly enjoyed seeing it on the big screen. If you are in a small group then the theaters is ideal, otherwise for the big boxing gatherings home is the place.
I dont know how you can find all of them, but you can go to your nearest or favorite movie theater website and check their shows for July 12th if they have Honor and Glory: Canelo vs Lara at 9pm then they will be playing it if not try your second favorite theater's website XD.
Search Fathom Events on google.
Give it a shot man. I saw the Mayweather/Cotto fight in a theater. I guess it depends where you're at, but I saw it in Orlando so there were a lot of Puerto Ricans in there and it got really loud. Not loud as in obnoxious, but loud as in everyone was hyped for the fight and rooting loudly for Cotto. They even sold beer at the concession stand so people were having a blast. Like someone also mentioned, the quality and sound alone is worth watching it in a theater.
On a sidenote, does anyone have a good site that shows which theaters in the country will be showing the Canelo/Lara fight?

Theater all day. Ive been like 3 times and its great. Its the next best thing to being at a fight. People complain about alcohol but just bring some in your pocket and put it in your cup or dump a soda bottle out, fill it with whaterver and put it in your girls purse. If not that then just get drunk before you go........lol
There is one stipulation that you have to make sure of. Call your theater and ask them are they playing it in surround sound. Trust me, it makes a world of difference. I had 2 great experinces but one time I went and the sound was just coming from the screen or the front speakers. It felt night & day to me and I couldnt get into it at all. Maybe it wouldnt have bothered me if I didnt see it the other way first but I already had an this version sucked.
Its like some theaters think that since its not a movie then they dont have to use all the speakers. Yes you do. If they play it in surround sound then go. Everyone is hyped just like at a fight or a fight party and the fighters look huge. Its great and there will be alot of trash talk
That sounds like fun, well like most things in life it's good to try at least once see for myself since there's a lot of mixed opinions and experiences about it here. Ill proably end up giving it a shot for the sound and huge ass fighters alone the replays of the punches have to look epic was my first thought when i saw the Canelo vs Lara poster XD.
Here is my take. Pro's and cons:
Pro's:
The theater is 1/4 the price of PPV roughly at $18
There is a lot of people and you end up connecting with some of them right off
The picture is huge and very clear and feels more like an event than on TV
Cons:
You don't have the card recorded to replay
No alcohol although you could sneak something in
I really liked the theater option and chose this when I want to save a little money.
Hey, Gamboa will be back. He fought his fkn ass off and showed his heart and skills. I think if he tightens up a few things, stays busier fighting every 3-4 months, he can still make noise in Boxing. He gave everything he had and would probably rise 100 times off the canvas if they allowed him, that's how big of a fighting heart he showed. He is exciting and Boxing needs that.
Here's to hoping :friday:

So you only buy Mayweather ppvs? Hows Mayweather vs Guerrero worth 69 more than Lara vs Canelo ? . I dont mind buying the fights that are worth it for me, which are usually the top guy vs the other top guy mostly. I have been to a sports bar, and im not a fan since i dont even like to drink anyways feel out of place. I have never been to the movies to watch a fight thats why i was wondering about that experience.
Then Go to a Movie theater.

Find the closest sports bar to your area. If a fighter's name is not Mayweather, It does not deserve to be ppv. 60 dollars is not a legit price for Lara vs Alvarez. People who decided to Watch Cotto vs Martinez at home wasted their money. If a fight ends up sucking, you will ask, Why did I pay 60 dollars for that when Instead I could have paid 10 or 15 dollars to watch it at a sports bar.

Depends, do you want to cook food and drink alcohol/smoke substances while you watch the fight?

It's not a bad experience, but I'd take bar or home over it for the following reasons:
A. You can't really drink. (Maybe doesn't matter to you, but I prefer to have a beer while I watch a fight.)
B. I don't think it gets a rowdy as bars because people aren't drinking, and also even if it's a subconscious thing, people are trained to be quiet at the movies. You're much more likely to lean over to a stranger and say something about a great combination in a bar than in the theater.
C. It's just not as "free". You pick a seat, sit down, and watch the fight. It's not like at a bar or your house where you can just walk around. Sometimes I get anxious during a fight and I don't want to be sitting down.
However everyone's different so I'd recommend trying it once. It is pretty awesome to see gloves as big as you are.
