I think Rigo would tell you that you are wrong. I just think they come from excellent BOXING pedigree and sometimes, their lack of engaging is what can hurt them. Although Gamboa isn't cut from the same cloth as the rest. He loves to fight. I can't say the same for Rigo or a guy like Casamayor.
I'd be interested to see out of every country in the world, which one has the highest percentage of its pro boxers that eventually become world champions.
Topic backfires on op.
How can u say the Cuban style doesnt translate to the pros when so few Cubans even
Make it to the pros and they all end up at the top level. It clearly translates well. Gamboa just reached too far, not everybody is pacquiao.
i don't think that's true at all.
gamboa is already past his physical peak. you guys get that, right? he was in his prime as an amateur.
his prime was at 126 and 130. if he had moved out of the amatuers at 18 or 20 years old, he'd have transitioned just fine.
it's not that the styles don't transition. it's that these guys get to teh states having fought much of their primes as amateurs.
while most guys turn pro young, and learn a pro style young, these guys stay amateurs into their adult lives.
i also want to add that rigondeaux is one of the two best fighters on the planet. it's between him and andre ward. floyd looked old against maidana. very old.
does rigondeaux's style hold him abck as a pro? no. he WHOOPED donaire, a top p4p fighter. it's just not going to sell tickets.
Don't burn them too badly with that ether.
Nah. Gamboa and perez are legit entertainers. They don't backpedal like the rest of them. Even though I always hate on cuban fighters, I always enjoyed watching Gaboa.
You are incredibly retardedly wrong Gamboa is a twice over world champion if thats not transcending idk what is. Actually pretty sure this will turn into a you're wrong thread. Let's not forget theres only about 70 Cuban pros in the world tops that's a huge numbers disadvantage yet there are multiple Cuban Champions and contenders all over boxing if you make the math that should be a stupid crazy impossible anomaly. Unless there's something special about those who make it.
Four round fighters. No endurance. Smh. Even when you win you're kissing the canvas (Rigondeaux vs Donaire.)
Tell me I'm wrong
Lol get ready for a wave of red k and hate posts
got to love when fighters are underfeated .. they finally lose against another great fighter and people like " you see exposed" etc .... i guess everyone with couple losses are all horrible bums smh .... btw if cuba allowed every great boxer to come usa to fight .... you see cubans all in the top 10 in many divisions .... defecting from cuba is the problem .. handful come some are really good some are solid .. but imagine if 100% could go pro
What are you on about? The Cubans are running riot in the pros.
Hernandez, Abril, Lara, Gamboa, Rigondeaux, Barthelemy, Dorticos, Mike Perez - Not bad considering they only have about 50 fighter active fighters in the pros.
That isn't even taking into account many top prospects they have up and coming and many more about to turn pro.
If you think their pedigree counts for nothing then you're very much mistaken.
1 elite fighter losses to another elite fighter = Their amateur system doesn't cross over.
Feel bad for Richar Abril, his career took a hit after they robbed him of the Brandon Rios win.

The number of world champions that system has produced, especially over the past few years puts that myth to bed.
And its not just Cubans. Plenty of fighters from other countries have a tough time transitioning from the amateurs to pros. Especially with that points system that was in place. It's just that there are less Cubans that turn pro.
pro boxing is about entertainment and winning.
did gamboa not have a chance to win last night?
and were you not entertained?
holy crap is that guy fun to watch when he's in deep.
It was entertaining. Yes.

At least these real Cubans are facing tough opposition.. Donaire, Canelo, and Crawford all fought by Cuban AM stars..
Then there's that punkass Peter "i got my GED doe" Quillin
I find it rather impressive when a fighter "kisses" the canvass yet rises above adversity and summons his inner strength to win the fight, mate. The Cuban School of Boxing is much more than training and learning the game, it gives the fighters character and confidence in themselves, something most boxers are currently lacking.
I disagree.
I just think that the reason they do so well is because the Cuban "amateurs" are really pros going up against the worlds real amateurs. It's like America calling the dream team, Americas basketball amateurs.

You are wrong. They don't care if they bore the fans. They care about one thing and it is the one thing they were taught the moment they trained and stepped in a boxing ring. The thing they were taught is one goal. To Win.
