Overcome adversity against other good fighters, adjust....and win
Crawford is the man. He adjusted well, recovered well when Gamboa had him hurt in the 9th briefly. He showed all sides IMO.
He can box, he can adjust, he can hurt you. He can recover.
Gamboa has fast hands and attacks at akward angles. It takes time to adjust and get your timing down. I expected Crawford to lose the first few rounds.
He lost the first 2 clearly, switched southpaw late in the 3rd but was still getting beat to the punch, especially with Gamboa's overhand right. Then in round 5 he finally landed a perfectly timed right hook over Gamboa's jab which turned the fight around.
Gamboa gets wreckless after he gets knocked down and has always done that. He would have finished the fight if he stuck to his gameplan.
Gamboa gets reckless all the time. He clearly hurt Crawford in the last round and got wild again. Strange for such a well schooled fighter to completely lose his head.
When did he switch southpaw? Wasn't it after the first round? He then lost the next couple of rounds easily. The fight turned after the first knockdown which is when Yuriorkis went "Full Gamboa" for the first time.

He switched southpaw so he could have his power hand up front and counter Gamboa's jab over the top with the right hook that scored him his first knockdown and was landing at will throughout the rest of the fight.

Crawford took advantage of the openings well but come on, what adjustment? Gamboa was winning the fight handily and then got knocked down because he flew in with his chin straight in the air wailing punches like he always does.
I didn't expect Crawford to show that kind of power but the weight "differential" probably helped.

You don't think Gamboa could beat anyone in the Top 10 at 135???
No complaints around until round 4 I'm sure. Gamboa would have beaten any other 135 pound fighter tonight.
So nothing to do with Crawford's talent, or ability to adjust and time him???
Ok

The first time I saw Crawford, I saw things that made me a believer. He's on my squad and I assume he will eventually be on the list of fav boxers for many people. It may take some time but he is the goods and has many, many aspects of his game that makes him elite.
He probably could beat a lot of them but that's more an indictment on the Lightweight division than anything.
Gamboa looked like a child in there compared to Crawford. He's bulked up far too much. It's only his immense talent that allowed him to be winning the fight and his recklessness that lost him it.

All you're going to hear now though is that Gamboa is a small inactive fighter.....even though he came out looking like a beast in this fight, and fast as f*ck.
The Gamboa tonight would have beaten a lot of guys at 135.
the gamboa tonight, who got dropped 5 times would've beaten a lot of guys at 135? lol
No one was saying that during the first four rounds when Gamboa was fast as ever, and looking like he was out classing him though.
It had to do with both. Crawford is the goods IMO. I just wanted to see how he overcame adversity and he passed that test at least tonight.
No one was saying what? That Gamboa was smaller and has been inactive? No one needs to say it because it's just fact.
Crawford is good but I haven't been overly impressed with either of his last two performances. Gamboa threw that away as much as Crawford won it.
Everyone saying the size was everything because Gamboa was trading with such a bigger man, but to me the size was second to the brain . Crawford 100% outsmarted Gamboa he traded on purpose because he knew he would get the better of it no matter what.
Once he adjusted and started landing, that was it. Gamboa was too chinny and too small to stay in that fight.
I don't see this greatness everyone's claiming in Crawford, but he's a good, skilled fighter and he's still improving.
I agree with this, the way Kellerman was verbally slobbing on his knob was very creepy.
Wasn't he?

I don't even think it was Adversity to be honest, I think he stuck with the gameplan which was probably to be patient and wait for Gamboa to make a mistake which he does every fight and make him pay for his mistakes and Crawford Did that. Notice that Crawford did not get wild after hurting or dropping Gambao, he remained patient and stayed very discipline

as much as I like Crawford this was clear size winning a fight. I mean he was bigger than Mayweather. :/... That and he's legitimately good he could exploit that size.
Gamboa seemed better though... Up til Crawford just decided he could eat Gamboa's best punch and made the correct decision of going southpaw to lay his hands on Gamboa. Even though it's not his natural stance, with the size and weight he doesnt need full leverage on his good hand (the right). He made the right adjustments so to speak to beat what seemed a more skilled fighter. I'm excited to see Crawford at 140 so we can see how he can cope vs guys as big with power. He should fight Lamont and then he can fight one of the bigger hitters. Would love to see him vs Alvarado and see how/ if he can exploit someones faults at the lower tier at least.
i agree. this didn't look like a past prime or shot gamboa at all.
very good win for crawford.
Especially considering comments in the fight thread saying Gamboa was going to win every round, was just another class than Crawford, and how Crawford was overrated.
Crawford ends up beating that ass, and Gamboa is a small inactive fighter.
Gamboa being small didn't help, but lets not act like Crawford didn't make great adjustments, and just beat him because he's the better all around fighter.
