Watching Lomachenko I was suprised to see that he doesn't put a lot of leverage into his shots. Lot of arm punching. Bradley does the same thing quite often. I think people get written off as not having power because of physicality when really its usually a problem with technique. Can anyone here name some notable boxers who fight the same way?
Do you agree with my view on Lomachenko? Bradley?
many of the brits are arm punchers. their trainers rarely train guys to address the target with their knuckles, or to sit down on punches and get power with their legs.
you can also blame athleticism for that, as many of the british fighters are freaking plebs. an athletic / explosive kid will walk into the gym already understanding what he needs to do to punch hard.
Good point, I do see the Euros doing it more often. I wonder if it has something to do with the amateur scene as well. Guys from Euro countries have such long Amateur careers sometimes and in that setting the shorter but faster punches pay off more so maybe its just habit.
Agree with Bradley.
Vitali Klitschko, Derek Chisora, Nathan Cleverly

I saw one arm puncher in the Lomo-Russell fight...and it wasn't Lomo
THIS!!!
Russel was slapping his shots in nothing behind them but the speed he could throw the slaps at.
Fun discussion as usual, I missed a lot. Malignaggi was a great example. I know a lot of people don't agree with my view of Lomo but I think that whoever said he was probably using an amateur mindset was right. It just seems weird to see him using so little torque the majority of the time. I understand its a strategy. I think if he got some more torque on it he'd be a mean puncher though. I'd like to point out I wasn't saying he never gets any power on them.
George Foreman, probably one of the hardest ARM punchers to ever step foot on earth.
I heard he was so powerful and heavy handed he could knock a grown man out with a open handed slap
Loma isnt an arm puncher. Like most good fighters he varies the speed and power of his punches. He was throwing his left in a pushing manner at times then he'd sit on it and smash Gary and throw a series of punches with bad intents and have Russell in trouble. He's got a very stiff jab too.
Bradley is definitely an arm puncher. Malignaggi too. They both CAN throw a proper ounch but they just dont have power. Margarito used to vary his offense between a lot of arm punches and good punches. Lamont Peterson can arm punch with the best of em but like Paulie and Bradley, even when he "sits down" on his its the same s hit lol.
This is one thing I've thought about Loma for a while. People talk about his power but he's not a great puncher by any means because he's mainly an arm puncher. It's a shame because he does everything else almost perfectly.
Than why did he drop Salcido Ko'd his first Opponent and snapped Russell head back to his A$$ in round 10 ?
arm punches for lanky heavyweights may be a good thing lol.
theres so much power behind the jab already, all they need is speed in it...
(obviously not suitable for all, but it definitely is a big plus for long armed heavy weights)
Vitali, during his comeback title reign. It allowed him to hit an opponent at will and still stay out of range and in position to counter. It was as close to as perfect of a heavyweight fighting style as there could be as long at the one employing the style has the reflexes and ability to make it work. Vitali could also crank up the power when he wants to.
Second is Calzaghe, for obvious reasons. He had little pop but was always in position to connect, even against a boxing whiz like Hopkins.
