I remember watching Pac vs Clottey and a friend asking me why was it illegal in boxing to double punch, and to be honest i had no idea wtf to tell him back then because i didn't remember any rule specifically saying no double punches allowed. Actually i have no idea why it wouldn't be allowed in the first place providing they are both in legal areas of the head/body. So is this illegal, as in the rulebooks illegal (if it is do you agree?) or is it just the refs?

Honestly don't see anything wrong or illegal with it apart from it's silliness. What's your take on this?
My opinion is that's silly, but shouldn't be illegal.

So it is something that it's at the refs discretion good to clear that up in case i ever get asked again. I dont see it as unsportsmanlike to me (the objective is to punch each other isnt it) if it's being used as a taunt then why the hell dont refs warn people when they literally do taunt and talk sh*t right?. I think it's silly, but shouldn't be so frowned upon by most refs, hell the guy throwing them is the one who runs the most risk lol.
True story man. Mayweather taunted the hell out of his opponents, he even danced for Berto but no warnings.
Pac shouldn't get a warning for that. If Pac was able to do that to Clottey without eating a KD/KO punch then obviously something was wrong with Clottey. Maybe the ref should have warned him for being inactive.
The eardrum answer is correct. Clapping both sides of someone's ears the way Pacqiao did can cause instant death due to air pressure that can't escape (which is why single shots are "safer" to answer an earlier poster). A double punch to the face as in the Augustus clip is no biggie.
Tht makes no sense anatomically, your ears are connected to each other directly so how would hitting or clapping both at once be any different to clapping one at a time ?
Plus air pressure can escape through the eustation tubes into the sinus cavity.
Sounds like something from a Bruce Lee movie to me.
i heard it pops ear drums?
not all dragon punches are on the sides like that some guys shoot a double punch straight down the pipe. I think emmanuel augustus used to do this if I'm not mistaken?
Its ridiculous, seriously.
Seriously, if you don't have anything to contribute but to criticize other posters then better for you not to post at all. smdh

It's not something that just some referees don't allow. It is against the rules and no referee will allow it. It is a silly punch and no fighter has ever been hurt by a double punch that I know of. Backhand punches are also against the rules. I don't know why these punches are illegal but they are. If you throw a punch with both hands at the same time it's impossible to turn any weight into such a punch and so the punch has very little power. You can tell that Pacquiao's double punch has no effect on Clottey and does not hurt him at all. The hard damaging blows are properly thrown one handed punches with as much body weight as possible turned into the punch. Double punches are really harmless. I think Pacquiao was just frustrated with Clottey not fighting back but just covering up in a tight shell. Pacquiao likes to put on exciting fights.
Yep, like someone else said I heard its potentially bad for ear drums.

And this is not? I have never seen a double punch thrown with any real power in boxing tbh think its more silly than anything.
Compubox cant score 2 punches at the same, so it would get an inaccurate number at the last bell.
God forbid we mess up them perfect compubox scores.
Maybe you should take Floyd's balls out of your mouth. What do you think?
I swear i could be talking about enemas and sh*t would turn into a Floyd/Pac thread somehow lol.
i dont get it either...Floyd can throw elbows but PAC can't throw two punches?

It's quite obvious Pac did so as a sign of 'come on go toe to toe, get out of that shell, open up'. It clearly wasn't intended to do damage or score him points.
