How you think he beat marquez and avoid getting his head knocked off by manny in the first fight
Well yeah, sometimes he choses to box and he looks good doing so. But like against Provodnikov he chose to trade. I'm not saying he is bad defensively but he could sharpen it even tighter.
Riddick Bowe's defense on the outside was poor.
"Terrible" is a big overstatement, but Hagler's defense from 1984-on took a big nosedive. It went from "solid" to "average".
Margarito, George Foreman, Old Ali, Fraizer, Pipino Cueavas Araon Pryor, I think when he moves up in competition Deontay Wilder, Carl Froch Brandon ( Punching Bag) Rios Nonito Donaire exposedHis only defense to date was fight little guys come down from 140 to fight at 118 122
Frazier used good upper body movement. Ali said a few times that Frazier was not easy to hit.
In the 3rd round of their fight in Manila, Joe slips about 25 straight punches from Ali.
Paul Williams
i think froch's defense is underrated. he's not often hit flush with power punches, the way he was against groves in the first fight. the dirrell fight was probaly the best example of himi taking a real tattooing in his prime. he just ducked his head to protect his chin, and did little more. dirrell's speed and power, as well as his range, gave froch problems.
froch did some subtle things with his defense. he wasn't a defensive wizard, don't get me wrong, but i think it's overstated when people say he had bad defense. his main defense was having long arms, and being able to hit you when you couldn't hit him. he also tucked his chin very well. he'd roll right hands, and even if he didn't duck under a left hook, he'd take it high on the head and roll it.
I agree.
His chin is very good but not as amazing as people say, however his defense is better than people give him credit for.

Spot on, man.
Froch's defence, or supposed lack of, is greatly exaggerated.

I'll throw in Timothy Bradley, I think the guy goes for too many exchanges, he got an iron chin and a diamond will, but I think he if he fought smarter, he'd be one of the slickest.

Carl Froch? Terrible defense. makes up for it with a granite chin & lots of heart.
He got bad defense in the sense that he doesn't block the shots with his hands, I agree with that… :D
But he actually got an arsenal of defensive tricks up his sleeve, but if he kept his gloves up, he'd probably defend a bit better hah! But no one wants to see Froch fight like that.
