Sugar Ray Leonard vs Sugar Ray Robinson at 147lbs. At 160lbs. Who wins and why?
I personally think that SRL is the G.O.A.T. and doesn't get the credit he deserves when it comes to everyone saying that Robinson is not only the greatest welterweight ever, but the greatest fighter. Nobody ever says that Leonard is the greatest. Nobody ever talks about how he only had one "prime" lost. Robinson was the first fighter of his kind, and SRL's idol, but just because he had the amount of fights he had, doesn't make him better. Leonard is the smarter fighter. Nobody studied their opponents like Leonard. He had better defense and punching technique as well. Robinson fought in that old school, hands down type of style that would get him Ko'ed against a fighter as smart as Leonard. Leonard beat three of the biggest punchers ever in Hagler, Hearns, and Duran. I personally think that Hagler is the greatest middleweight ever and that Duran is the greatest lightweight ever. I also think Hagler beats Robinson as well. What do you guys think?
Most of Robinson's MW losses came after his first retirement when he tried to become a dancer.
Robinson's loss to LaMotta wasn't even at MW, Ray was a WW and LaMotta was a MW.
He did lose to Turpin the first time, and was given problems and cut in the rematch. I could definitely see Robinson splitting a pair of fights with a Hagler or Monzon.
I doubt Roy Jones could even make 160 back in those days of same day weigh-ins. Maybe very early in his career when he was inexperienced, but not by the 1993-94 period.
Didn't Ray lose the mw belt a few times... I'm pretty sure there are other guys besides Carmen and fullmer that could beat mw version of robinson.. Hagler, monzon, greb, etc could beat a mw version of Ray or at least give him problems
Historians say his only true MW loss was to Lamotta then he beat him 3 weeks later; they say he took losses once he started being a part time ala Oscar or Floyd and when he took his European tour he was robbed of wins.
The only Middleweight who would give Ray Robinson a problem is Roy Jones.

This is an excellent breakdown of SRR, that articulately describes him and his attributes.

SRR went up to light heavyweight and only lost because in the 14th round he was dehydrated, but was savagely beating the champion and ripping combinations on him for the previous rounds while display superb defense and movement... AND he was out of his prime.
Robinson also beat the lightweight champ, Sammy Angott, in a non-title bout after having been a pro for 10 months.
Imagine that, if he'd gotten a shot at LW. He'd have likely won titles at 135, 147, and 160. And pretty damn close to winning it a 175.
The footage of SRR at WW is so limited, that I won't pick a winner there. However, I would not hesitate to pick the St. valentine day massacre version of SRR over SRL at MW.
Hell, I don't know if ATG middleweights like Hagler and Monzon beat SRR at MW.
robinson is the greatest of all time he beat more world champions than anyone and at one point was 91-0 ! leanord has nothing on robinson no one in boxing does. You obviously dont know much about him.
I concur......
He was like the Michael Jordan of boxing; just about the only one who could beat him, was himself. When he was on, nobody touches him. I have 46-50yr olds upset with me and cursing me out just because I don't agree that Robinson wins. Based on what does he beat Ray? Just saying. Ray was on a different level.
