This is what pisses me off about boxing fans. They said that even a dead Sergio Martinez was going to be too much for Cotto. I was one of those that thought Sergio was going to beat him. You gotta take your medicine like a man and admit that you were wrong, and give props to the other fighter. I believe that if the fight was closer and more competitive Cotto would receive more props. Is kinda like the Bradley-Prodnikov fight. Everyone was saying that Bradley was fighting a bum from ESPN. Now because the fight was close and competitive Bradley received more props, just because he took a lot of punishment.

Let's face it, coming in as a significant underdog against the bigger, stronger & faster 'Maravilla' Martinez, Cotto (by majority) was not expected to win this fight! Sergio Martinez came into this fight promising a 9th round KO. He declared himself to be healthy. And if it means anything, the State Athletic Commission's Doctor gave Sergio the green light to take the fight. I'm not denying that Martinez may have been compromised - the extent of which can be argued blind - but to then go on and undermine Cotto's performance on the back of that is a disservice to what is really a historic upset. The crucial fact - by Martinez's own admission - is that he never recovered from round 1. As HBO's Max Kellerman's said: "I don't care about the condition of Martinez's knee". And that's right, because Cotto looked that good - he was too sharp for his own good! With the rejuvenation of Roach, Cotto annihilated Martinez. It's about time Cotto received the credit he deserves. He sealed his legacy on June 7th as one of the modern era's true greats. He was considered not just bigger and stronger, but faster and more skilled! The majority expected him to do what Trout did, but add some slice on top. But Martinez literally died in that fight in round 1. And that was because Freddie Roach was in Cotto's corner. Do you really think the Martinez that fought Cotto was the same one that fought Pavlik and Williams? Do you think Martinez will have any success from now on given the condition of his leg? Martinez didn't die in round 1 or else Cotto would have finished him. Hell the fight was stopped by his corner because the leg wouldn't respond not because Martinez quit.

He did look sharp. I am a bit torn between giving credit and taking it away lol... Because Cotto looked very sharp... But Martinez looked very dull. I will trust my eyes though, as I should have right after Delvin. This is a much improved Cotto... More emphasis on that hook and better conditioning. It reminds me of how Maidana transformed after going to Garcia. I like this Cotto in a lot of jr mw match ups. I think he could get revenge on Trout... And give Mayweather a very close fight. Canelo I feel would be a bit much... Young prime strong kid like that... But we'll see. Mw is too much for Miguel... I think Cotto beats Martinez in 2008 or 2014. Anyone who understands the nuances of the game, will admit that Sergio when compared to Cotto skill wise, is a notch below. He came in their with his bag of tricks that only work on slow journeymen against a guy who has seen it all. He got humbled fast in round one and you could see it hit him then.
