what you think is the best fight salvage operation by a boxer after he's been knocked down several times? i'm going with Prince Naseem vs Kevin Kelley cos Hamed was dropped like 3 times (he wasn't hurt, it was a balance thing) but he came back to stop the guy.. obviously Marquez vs Pac is in with a shot too..
It was in the first round... Not like it was in the late rounds...
Isn't the premise of 'salvaging a fight' around the notion that a lot of adversity is seen sooner, rather than later?
Being overwhelmed and down three times in round one, then proceeding to fight your way to a draw is a pretty damn good 'fight salvage' in my book. Against pacquiao no less.

Except that fight was a draw, whereas Rafael Ruelas did it and won against Freddie Pendleton.

MENTAL FIGHT
I thought the stoppage was a bit early. The ref and doctor said he could fight after checking him out in the corner and then the ref just stops it cause he took a punch.
Was a good fight though.
edit*
did he have a broken jaw or was that swollen gums?
Obviously Marquez in his first fight with Pacquiao. I didn't even read one post in this thread to come to this conclusion.
I can't believe it took to post 16 for this fight to get mentioned.
Vargas even though he didnt win vs Cheatotrinidad. One of the best fights ever, it took illegal wraps n low blows to beat this kid that was still green.
Corrales Castillo I
Surprised this wasn't the first answer. It's always the most popular one.
Recently, I'll go with Lara vs Angulo.
Past, I'll go Rocky vs Apollo Creed.
