Is it better then Floyds over Mosley??
Is it better then Cotto's over Mosley's?
Is it better then Tito's over Whitaker?
Was it better then Oscars over Chavez?
In my opinion all htese are solid wins, but on this forum certain fights get discedited while others are praised... Ya'll discredit Calzaghes wins over Roy and Hopkins but praise Cottos over Martinez...Please explain and please no name calling of flaming

Better than any Floyd wins that the only thing i care about.
Cotto did great, but Martinez definitely showed he is much less than his best anymore. On paper its a great win for Cotto, but in reality, its no where near his best win. The HBO guys are really good at making you think Cotto is sensational now with Roach.
nailed it right on the head wasn't that significant... Sergio is washed unfortunately ...and we all saw that by the end of the first round ....Time for sergio to hang those gloves up :owned2:
I saw Cotto fighting an old fighter in there. As I was watching the fight, I thought to myself that Martinez looked old, like he couldn't throw punches anymore. I thought his legs looked really weak. The Martinez that fought Chavez and Williams is able to throw combinations without falling over. The Martinez that fought Chavez is able to take punches from a cruiserweight. The Martinez of the Chavez fight is willing to attack the opponent with a high output, something Martinez couldn't do against Murray. I've never seen Martinez's chin look more vulnerable than it did against Cotto. I stand by my statement that the Martinez of the Chavez fight beats Cotto.
Chavez is so much slower than Cotto. He telegraphs all of his punches. His feet are in concrete. His left hook is long and slow. Martinez obviously looked fresh and fast against him. If this fight was 2 years ago Cotto still would have won that fight.
Not enough people are taking into account that Cotto was by far the fastest and best boxer Martinez had ever faced. Maybe that's why he looked "crippled" instead of past it.
That left hook landed behind the ear and made it bleed. His camp even said he might have had a concussion. But it was his knees doe.
If Sergio was so shot why did 98% of this site pick him to win by TKO? Told yall Cotto would box his ass silly. Martinez lost to the best fighter he ever faced. Its boxing it happens. Its a great win. Best win of Cottos career.
Are you this dumb? People picked based on Sergio being close to healthy. No one could know for sure how bad his knees were until he stepped into the ring.
He didn't spar?
That is a lie. A kid I know from my barrio, Daniel Rosario who trains with Evangelista, was there sparring him.
LOL at the responses of everyone here diminishing the victory. The knees were ok. His ear drum was a different story. His balance was not affected by his legs, was due to the concussion. However, fanboys and the idiots of NSB can understand that because they are too damn stupid.
Is it better then Floyds over Mosley??
About the same - There are many variables in the air with this and If I was ranking this, I'd have to take into account that this fight should've taken place 4-5 years prior to the bout.
Is it better then Cotto's over Mosley's?
No - but barely - Fresher pre-Margarito Cotto fought a more fresher version of an aging Mosley. I'll give him credit for that; that said he was impressive against an aging Martinez AT 160 when people were saying (including myself) Cotto was going to die in the ring (assuming Martinez knee was right).
Is it better then Tito's over Whitaker?
No. I thought The Viper would've beaten the puncher.
Was it better then Oscars over Chavez?
No - but one can make an argument that Oscar beat a veteran at that point.

Never discredited Calzaghe's win, I thought he did what he needed to do to win the fight, that said, much like Martinez, Roy used his athletisism to get by in fights. Calz win over Hopkins is also credited because Hopkins can't handle younger boxer types (i.e., Dawson Loss).
Specifically addressing Calzaghe versus Hopkins a case could be made that Hopkins pulled off of a draw in that fight. Calzaghe landed almost no clean punches on bhop, I've watched the fight many times.
Roy Jones was shot to **** and still knocked Calzahhe down and almost out.
... no just no...
Joe whooped a past it Roy Jones jr and he clearly deserved the decision against Bhop!
FFS all Bhop did was clinch the total amount of clinches he did after the fight was over was 80!!!
Joe threw more and landed more and controlled the fight easily 116-112 definitely no draw.

Can't believe I forgot PW. And while most say he was shot, I saw Cotto outclassing him and outboxing him. Cotto was a better fighter. The Sergio that fought JCC Jr. loses. The one that fought PW loses. Cotto is no spring chicken either.

Paul Williams. And Martinez looked shot in there. Every prediction I made on this fight was based on the idea of a not shot Martinez. Clearly, I was too optimistic about the state Martinez was in. And I never expected Cotto to look that strong. That new S&C coach has done wonders, it seems.

actually everyone was saying Sergio lost his last fight so stop it, slime
No they weren't. It was a close fight, but the majority had it for Sergio over Murray.
Funny how Martinez is being called a "washed up cripple" and all sorts of things, yet Cotto was a 2to1 underdog. Martinez was favored to win the fight. Martinez was the reigning, lineal middleweight champion. As of right now, Martinez being washed up and "crippled" is all just speculation and unfounded claims based on personal opinions. There is no evidence that Martinez had issues with his knees in the fight. It is highly possible that Cotto just rocked him early & had the right game plan to make him look that bad. Cotto is probably the best technical fighter that Martinez has ever faced. I think Cotto deserves all the credit in the world right now. He took a huge risk, worked hard, got in great shape, developed a good strategy and executed it perfectly.
Martinez has displayed tremendous character in defeat. I admire his character. Even Cotto could learn from him, as Cotto just leaves the ring after suffering a defeat. Sergio stayed in the fight despite being pummeled, begged for it not to be stopped and made no excuses after it was over. He even said how he respected his trainer's decision. Sergio really seems like a great person, and other fighters/fans could learn a lot from him.
Sergio was Cotto's best win IMO because of the fashion in which he won in. He completely dominated the middle weight champ who had every fighting advantage of him. Not only that, it made him the first PR to win a title in his 4th weight division.
1) Cotto vs Mosley
2)Tito vs Whitaker
3)Oscar vs Chavez
4)Floyd vs Mosley
5)Cotto vs Martinez
The ghost of martinez was what showed up against Cotto, blow some air at him and he would fall. Most of the time Martinez didn't even look hurt and he quickly got up from all the knockdowns but his legs couldn't allow him to throw a punch properly.
For Cotto, it's certainly one of his top three wins. Regardless of Martinez and his condition, he still dethroned the MW king and made history. Martinez and his team aren't making any excuses.
Are you actually asking to rank it or was that an excuse to complain about why other guys don't get as much praise as you feel they should?
This was a great win over THE MW champ, clear and dominant. Martinez hadn't lost in over 10 years and had won 51 out of his 55 fights. He is 39, but this was a great win.

Here we go... didn't take long. Where is Martinez having surgery on his knee then if it is "shot?" He's got no broken hand this fight either, or shoulder issues. From his OWN F*CKING mouth dood says, I was just caught early and couldn't recover. He says that in a LOSS... in a LOSS...
Yet, he beats Chavez and Murray... WINS and then says oh but my hand was hurt, and I re hurt my knee, and I hurt my shoulder too. No fool, Martinez is HONEST and he got beat the f*ck down and admitted it but no one who picked him can just come to terms with that.
Martinez was undeniably an unorthodox fighter he relied heavily upon his movement in the ring to keep his opponent out of range and to strike in and out from range...
He at his best is a tremendously gifted athlete, you can definitely state him not being at his prime how can you say this?
BOTH KNEES... he had to use those knee supporters to even fight and we all know that Martinez isn't the type of guy to make excuses he never does it!
But simply put there is no denying that Cotto feasted upon sloppy seconds of a fighter that has past his sell by date due to the many injuries and operations, this will be the last of Martinez we will ever see.

The Murray fight was a gift decision and HE LOOKED LIKE ****. Why is he having surgery if hes shot? Lol are you really asking that.
