The most underrated great boxer in our generation, big ups to sergio martinez for still fighting on his age and on the injuries he had sustained for the past years.
Sergio was a class act, he never had any excuses about his loss. It's just age and wear and tear just caught up with him and props for cotto for doing what he has to do.
This thread is for the marvels and great fights that Maravilla gave us, and what I think the middleweight king deserves great respect from nsb fans.
True warrior, champ, person. Thank you champ!

F*ck him. He knew he was shot and still told the world he would KO Cotto to sell more PPV's and make more money.
Maravilla was a warrior and went out on his shield. He wanted to keep fighting and showed he has balls to keep fighting in his condition. Hopefully he hangs them up. He had a great run.
Was a very good champion... Big heart.... Exciting style.
I'm mad he pulled this on his fans though knowing he very well wasn't no 100%... But I guess every man has to hustle.
War Maravilla! I prefer to remember you as you were when you were dominating the division.
poppa sergio is a HOF...he fought even though he can cancel the fight due to serious injuries but a true warrior he fought!!
Serg was a good champ but i dont see how hes a HOFer
Followed him since the Bunema fight. That style, damn.
Was pretty depressed after the Cotto fight. Probably the last time we'll see him in the ring. That conversation between him and Sarmiento before the end was chilling.
That being said, he had a tremendous career and was a model champion. Was never in a boring fight and earned everything the hard way. He'll always be a personal hero. Represented us latinos very well.
Thanks for the memories grand champion. Your greatness will never be forgotten.
Martinez was the first fighter that I followed in boxing, so I was saddened to watch him for potentially the last time yesterday. Great boxer who earned it the hard way and made it up to the top at a very late age for an athlete. I hope he retires for his own sake.
Also the only boxer I have heard say "no excuses" and then not proceed to cite 100 excuses lol.
Pretty much what everybody else said. A true champion inside and outside of the ring. Gave us lots of good fights and memorable moments. Sucks to see him lose like that but at least it was to another great fighter. There's really no shame in that.
I just hope he decides to retire now and when his time comes, I hope they stamp his ballot for the HOF...
War Martinez!!!
Bought my wife a Maravilla tshirt. I love that guy. Never saw him fight til the Williams I fight. I was a fan that night. I love the energy the Argentine fighters have been bringing the last few years. Sergio is one of my fav's! War La Machina!
I have much respect for Martinez and how he handled this defeat. He handled this defeat better than half this board did.
So much respect for taking his L like the champion he is.
No shame in his career.
A terrific boxer, one of my absolute favorite guys to watch and learn from. He carried himself like a champion in and out of the ring. The moment I realized the man would go out on his stool a small light switched off inside of me and I became somewhat disturbed by the fact that this was it, the last time we'd see Martinez defend his world title against all odds. Respect from the bottom of my heart champ.

Much love and respect to Sergio! Guy was a great champion! A late bloomer that showed that anything was possible. Glad he had the chance to get that last fight he had in Argentina in front of his countrymen, I wish that could have been his last fight, and he had gone out on top like that. Oh well, can't blame him for getting that last 2 million in before heading out. Best wishes to him and the rest of his life.
