why is this being overlooked so badly? martinez claims that it was a punch that caught him cold in the 1st round which he never could regain his legs.
"I got hit with the punch and I was cold and I never recovered after that" said Martinez.
Good post.
I agree on both points.
With that said, I doubt Cotto would even beat Trout in a rematch, although he looked very sharp vs Sergio the hype is getting out of hand. Cotto is small at 154, let alone 160.
I'm thinking Cotto wasn't that sharp or smart against Trout.. Cotto with Roach and Macmillan could beat Trout. Trout has shown he can be out pointed or bombed out. Lara, Canelo
news just in...........martinez actually suffered a concussion (which would explain his dizzyness and being off balance) this confirms everything that he told us..........."the truth of the matter is i got caught in the first round and never recovered. i was dizzy the entire fight" he also had a broken nose............the dude was literally hit with a punch in the first round that gave him a concussion & had him dizzy.
i am looking at sergioes medical reports and his own words. (his own words actually matches with his medical reports) in fact sergio claims his legs were no problem at all. he simply was concussed for the entire fight. (which would explain the dizzyness) open and shut case............enough with ignoring sergio & disparately putting words in his mouth. sergios medical reports now backs up what he's been saying the entire time.
open and closed.
Lol....
Serg passed hospital exams but that doesn't mean a thing. Have you ever had knee surgery? My pops did and his movement was severely limited compared to his prime. Good for walking around but... Hospital still gonna clear you, in the grand scheme of things that don't mean a damn thing from within the context of high stress sports. You just merely have to look at how Sergio was shuffling around and not able to put momentum in his punches to know his knees weren't letting him do what he wanted to do.
Add to that age and a long layoff with little to NO sparring in between... And you get an extremely rusty, dusty, injure prone Sergio
I'm giving Cotto a lot of credit.. But I think this contingent of people that think Cotto beat a Sergio that was at the peak of his powers are pretty laughable.
The nuance you are missing is he wasn't swearing up and down that he was 100 percent leading up to the Murray fight. Leading up to Cotto he was. He's not going to admit he lied in a post fight interview about his physical state to fool the fans into buying the PPV. Also he isn't going to admit he's a damn cripple... It's a pride thing.
But anyone that has a slight level of competence judging form knows Martinez was a shadow of himself in there. Whether from age, injuries, or inactivity.. Or a combination of that trifecta.
Having said that.. Cotto fought a very smart and defensively responsible fight... And looked very sharp.
So there are two stories at play here.

Martinez was obviously a shell of himself but...did Cotto find the fountain of youth or something? Forget Martinez for a second. Cotto on spry, very very sharp, beautiful combinations and power like he still was at 140. Holy sh*t.
This is chess not checkers people. Hes not good enough to beat him. Sorry.
Just good enough to stop your heroe's career P.Will wich still seems to be a hard feeling for your lil wounded heart.
Fukin Sergio is 40 years old and is a figther who always relied on athleticism and looked like shyyte in his last 3 fights so let's not act like he was finally "exposed" last night.
dude, what are you talking about? sergio has always made excuses (or told the truth) when his body took a injury in A match (ALWAYS) after the murray fight he went on and on about how he felt like he broke his hand.............I am gonna do a lot of breaking down in this thread because you guys have taken this way too far.

let me put it like this. was martinez in 100% shape? prolly not, but his knees didnt give out because he was phucking cotto up. his knees gave out because cotto was phucking him up instead! i see some pac fans on here saying martinez's knees was bad before the fight, etc. and cotto had nothing to do with it. ok, well how should i explain this.
this is similar to when bradley fought pac and bradley injured his ankle. a lot of people was saying bradley injured it on his own and pac had nothing to do with it. well u guys didnt agree with that right? u guys said bradley broke his ankle by trying to move out of the way from manny. well same shiiet happen to sergio. his knees gave out by trying to avoid cotto. although bradley didnt have any problems with his ankle before the fight, the injured occur by both guys trying to avoid punches.
he was also 34 vs williams, as oppossed to 39 vs cotto
what you saw was a slow of foot martinez, not a damaged knee
or does martinez not age?
either way he'd always have a tough time with cotto, because cotto is a better boxer
Yes, Cotto would've always been a nightmare for Martinez because he's not only a better boxer, but he's much more technically sound.
NONESENSE!
His corner told Martinez that his legs were finished and that is why they had to stop the fight.
Paul Williams knocked Martinez down in the first round. Martinez picked himself up and later knocked down Williams in the same round ..... Martinez fought a good fight for 12 rounds. Why? He had good movement and his legs were NOT shot. With Cotto, he had no legs and couldn't generate much power on his punches.

Ya fooking retard... just because his legs aren't broken or torn doesn't mean they're healthy :lol1:
look at this flaming f*cker try to save face. you've been owneeeeeeeeeeed.
:lol1::lol1:
MRI for sergios hand and knees are in.
"Martinez was taken to Roosevelt Hospital in Manhattan following the fight and missed the post-fight press conference. An MRI revealed that Martinez suffered a broken nose, but his right knee and left hand, which had been damaged in his last fight in April of 2013, were fine, Lewkowicz said. DiBella said an additional CT Scan revealed "no abnormalities." Martinez was discharged at 5 a.m. on Sunday and traveled back home to Spain later in the day, Lewkowicz said."

:haha:
So a broken nose made Martinez do what he did with those legs ...... got it! Thanks for the laugh. Still laughing!
I was rooting for Cotto. I was never really into Martinez. To me, he was overrated, but it was pretty obvious Martinez did not have legs. It was painful to watch and I wished it ended earlier.

He was not all there after he realized Cotto is not Chavez Jr. From then on his confidence was gone. "He caught me cold, could have raped me, should have raped me, and I did not ever recover from it."
I more then defended my point and pretty much clowned & debunked everyone who thought sergio was injured in this fight (it was easy because the burden of proof is really on you guys because no medical reports have come out showing other wise and all we have is sergios words)
"read some of your posts in this thread ..... man, how can you try to defend your statements"
from the horses mouth
"i was hit with that left in the 1st and fought dizzy for the remaining of the fight. i simply couldn't recover after that"
But
"It was so obvious that he had leg problems. Just let it go."
maybe that had something to do with him being DIZZY for the remaing of the fight? hummmmmmmmm yea.
