What a great victory for the Puerto Rican champion tonight. I didn't think he could do it. He looked amazing at 160.
Would Cotto have given hell to Tito and Oscar at any weight? (147 thru 160)?
Great display tonight by the new Middleweight Champ!
I gotta go with kev on this,,
Murray beat up serg,, and should have had 2 knockdowns instead of 1,,, serg got a gift..
Some fans want to put that under the rug now. Acting like it wasn't a hometown decision with hometown officiating by the ref. Murray should have been the real 160 Ring champion after that fight, I had him winning 114-112.

beating a crippled 39 year old coming off a long layoff doesn't put him above tito and oscar bro
Murray-Martinez:
Total punches: 160-134 - in favor of Murray
Power punches: 128-87 - in favor of Murray
Not to mention the blown knock down, which would have made it two KD's for Murray.
Murray admitting he lost:
Murray said "If it was fair scoring then I would have got the decision, but it was always an uphill battle in Argentina there's no way I'll get another opportunity. I had him down twice, bossed him. I've proven I belong at the world level."

Tito and Oscar tried out the MW champ and got stopped...
Yes, because comparing Bernard Hopkins to last night's Martinez is even remotely sane. *Rolls Eyes*
you had Murray winning a fight that Murray himself believes he lost and most journalists who were there...OK
Many fans had Murray winning.

This particular poll shows 6 more fans had Martinez winning than Murray losing, 55-61. That is quite a lot of fans who felt the same as I did about the fight.
Miguel Cotto is very good against fighters with that "cute" style like Quintana, Malignaggi, Martinez, Foreman, Judah. If you try to be cute, Cotto will destroy you. Trout and Mayweather managed to pull off the win despite them having that type of style Cotto is good against, though I had Cotto-Trout draw.
Trinidad and DLH's styles are far from cute, these guys would tower Cotto and will come right after him. The way they fight will definitely make the weight matter. Martinez's height and weight were are not needed in his fights because of his style. DLH and Trinidad both go right after Cotto, box him if they have to, and TKO him eventually.
He was the man on paper, but I and many other fans had Murray beating him already.

Ummmmmm No.
But Cotto made himself a legit Hall of Fame fighter tonight in my eyes. Sergio old or not, was still the man at 160. Cotto earns all credit tonight.

tito would ko miguel. tito has power that is wrong for cotto.
cotto would outbox oscar considering oscar always loses his big fights.
Whitaker, Quartey, Chavez, Sturm, Vargas, Hernandes, Ruelas weren't big fights?
The thing is that cotto has never been THE CHAMP in any division until he beat serg
140- tsyzu, hatton
147- floyd, margs, shane
154- floyd, canelo
He beat an old serg for the MW title,, had he fought the hopkins that tito and oscar had to cotto would have been beaten down..
Cotto is a great fighter, but i have watched all 3 from the amateurs to the end of their careers and oscar and tito are better
No........
No. Absolutely not. Oscar and Tito's place in history are higher at this moment. If Cotto takes out another fighter he shouldn't, then we can debate further. Cotto's win last night put him ahead of Mayweather, though.
Last nights Cotto looked better than any Tito I can recall, in my opinion anyways.
Tito could crack but Miguel can box and crack.
Yeah, against a shot and handicapped Martinez. Tito would have brutally finished that version of Sergio in a few rounds.

Wait a minute. Are you insinuating that beating Sergio Martinez is comparable to what Tito and Oscar did in the sport? :dunce:What exactly makes Martinez a great fighter?

Tito would have ended serg in 1....
Tito is a very good boxer, cotto probably a little better, but the tito that fought reid, joppy, vargas, mayorga would have detonated cotto at some point...
Tito would put on great pressure like margs did, but has good boxing skills and great power...
pernell, chavez, are respectable and worth a lot of credit but none of those fighters are first ballot hall of famers
Whitaker and Chavez arent first ballot HOFers?

I think both men have the ability to stop Cotto or at the least hurt him very bad at all those weights.
Has he surpassed their legacies? No.
He may surpass Tito if he defends his title at 160 against a legit 160 pounder, nay of GGG, Quillin or Soliman.
Soliman is the best bet.
