Cotto will be getting a guaranteed $7 million for the fight, whereas Martinez will get $1.5 million plus more money from the percentage of PPV upside, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.
Not sure what the potential for the Martinez PPV take is but it sounds like he's getting screwed.
Yeah, Dibella gets his fighters money. But Dibella is getting money out of the deal too. And so is Top Rank. So how much money do you think is going to both Promoters? Because from the looks of it, you make it seem as though the fighters are going to be receiving all proceeds. :nonono:
Dibella will get 20-25 % and Sampson L will get 10 % if Sergio has a standard deal.
Martinez will probably get around 2.5 million total after PPV sales, which still is bs. If Cotto got 7 Million, than Martinez should have at least got half that.
Martinez better be getting some Back End Money WTF!
How does Mentioning Maidana vs Mayweather Purse making things better...First of all Maidana never been apart of a PPV Event, wasn't much of a Draw, Wasn't considered the best in his Division nor was he a Top 10 P4P Fighter
That is a STUPID A$$ COMPARISON!
Yes totally understand Cotto is the Draw here that is clear and yes he should make more but if he (Martinez) is not getting a lot at the back end at least then he needs a New Manager and with respect to DiBella who I like, he probably needs a new damn Promoter. You would think after the Chavez Jr. fight which was a fairly successful event, Martinez would be more of a Draw now
So as long as Sergio continues to make the best out of these Pay Per View appearances by delivering dominating performances, then in due time, he will eventually get noticed and create a demand of his own by broadening his audience among the casual fan; Especially his countrymen. Then he will become a PPV draw in his own right.
For example, Money Mayweather didn't become a crossover star or even noticed among the casual fan, to where he is the sports biggest cash cow and draw today, until he was given the Pay Per View exposure, in his victorious bout with Oscar De La Hoya; Which in turn introduced him to a much broader audience.
So my point is one has to start from somewhere in order to go anywhere.
So cute, Martinez is 39 years old my cute little friend, very little time left in his career the nature has already call him.
Yes but my figures are based on 400k ppv sales,Kev.
This fight will do over 600K sales at $60 per= $ 36 million.
HBO get 50 % of that or $18 million.
That would leave Sergio with 1/3 of $18 million which= $ 6 million.
Sergio is guaranteed $1.5 million base + $5ooK from South American tv money+ $ 6 million from ppv= at least $ 9 million.
If the fight does over 600k ,which I think that it will, he will get around $ 10 million. Loud Mouth Lou is no dumby and always bets on his fighters. He gets them paid.
Cotto will get at least $12 million and could do as much as $15 million based on sales.

Interesting...do you have a source for this?
Hey at least Cotto isn't making 30 million and paying Sergio 1.5 mil. However I think Sergio is getting the same as Khan and Broner for being on the undercard
If Cotto had the opportunity to do the same thing, he would. :lol1: I mean, he already demanded that he be the headliner, enter the ring last, catchweight, and so forth. And he referenced Pacquaio and Mayweather in explaining his reasoning for these things.

That's if GGG/Martinez was PPV....the fight is close to being that.... if GGG/Geale sells well there's a possibility... definite if he fights JCC Jr and wins
i was thinking that too, if martinez-ggg would be ppv... it could be a hit n miss... kinda like how i think stevenson-kovalev would be. two borderline ppv fights that appeal to us but lacks the big A-side.
worst case scenario, it ends up like a bernard hopkins ppv, but i think it would surely do better then that
he would have probably made more against GGG, ggg would be desperate to fight him and probably would be a closer share between the two... GGG would be asking for the fight. here, it was maravilla who was asking for a cotto fight. (or so it seems to me)

Is 1.5 million the max for Argentine fighters or what the fuk?
Argentina still behind.. 1.5mil there and ur family is set for atleast 5 future generations.
so martinez basically got floyd money without fighting floyd.
Exactly! Funny to see the Floyd fans complain about how low Martinez purse is when that's basically the "mayweather jack pot" lol
