Perhaps I'm just bitter because Roy Jones was very rude to me when I had the chance to meet him a few years back. But...
I just got around to watching the Luis Rosa-Luis Del Valle fight from this past weekend.
Roy Jones was calling the fight, and was going on & on describing how Del Valle was able to absorb lots of punishment & always come back fighting hard in his fight against Darchinyan. He would explain how he expected nothing less from Del Valle in this fight, because he proved to be "resigerent" ....? He made up his own word. The word he was looking for: resilient ...
My goodness. This reminded me of when he didn't know the different between compassion & passion during the Pacquiao-Bradley broadcast...Jim Lampley had to explain the difference to him the same way I would have to explain the difference to my niece that is in third grade.
I respect Roy Jones as a boxer, and look at his ring accomplishments with profound admiration, but I'm really not impressed with his work as an announcer. He never really says anything very insightful, and constantly displays an immense lack of vocabulary. Obviously, I wouldn't necessarily expect much sophistication coming from him, because he is there for his boxing insight, but he fails to impress me in that regard as well. I'm much more impressed with Paulie Malignaggi's work as an announcer. I would even say that Andre Ward does a much better job than him.
Roy isn't as bad as Lennox Lewis was (my goodness), but he is pretty bad...
In a post that is making fun of some one's grammar, punctuality or vocabulary, that post should be flawless, with no mistakes in it whatsoever. Unlike your post where you don't know when to use different and difference.
quick nitpicking, college boy.
he took punches to the head for a living. speech problems will manifest in his old age. that's just how it works, man.
your avatar seems to show that you are a boxer. if you box long enough, and at a high enough level, you'll probably end up sounding the same way.
It really doesn't matter when it comes down to it. He is a boxer, and was the best of his gereation. No need to be an english major when you are a millionaire by the time you are 22. If Hbo is okay with the commentary, then so be it.

C'mon give the man a break. Roy Jones is a career boxer who probably didn't even finished High school. That's how he has earned his living. He was never some Harvard law school college professor who had been known for being a wordsmith. Therefore, his limited grasp of proper grammatically speaking English could be somewhat expected.
Which I clearly stated in my post..
He clearly said re-sig-er-ent
I didn't mishear him...watched it a few times lol. Later on in the round he actually said "resilient"
Well I guess I should just be happy that when you've gone to sleep in the ring as much as Roy has, that you can still use the word resilient....even if you only run a 25% success rate.
Yeah, I saw that, I took that as him mishearing Roy - but its entirely possible he mixed up the words resurgent and resilient into a new word.
Classic confabulation.

YES!!
That guy drives me up the wall, absolutely hate his commentary and I'm not much a fan of his pre-fight assessments...
He will always favour the promotional prospect as well
"it's like building a house. You put the bricks in the basement, and that housecwill hold up for you for years to come"
:pat:
In a kitchy so-bad-its-great sort of way I love Atlas. Like a movie so bad you have a great time ripping on it with friends. That and I feel he's at least being earnest with his passion, you know?
"When you go to the swimming pool you expect to get wet, so you gotta bring a towel. If you forget your towel you're gonna have a hard time getting DRY....and right now I think (INSERT FIGHTER) is having a hard time finding his towel here..."
How about Atlas?
"This guy reminds me of someone cooking in the kitchen. But what happens when you're in the kitchen? You gotta watch out for the HEAT. Because if you don't watch out for the HEAT the kids are eating burnt chicken for dinner..."
Oh. Um. Yeah. Alright Teddy. I like your excitement?

Hahaha, you picked up on that too? Well, at least when Jones does talk about what is actually going on in the ring, he sounds highly knowledgeable. Not much else beyond that, lol.
Oh wait, his pre-fight analyst isn't all that bad either. Of course it's rehearsed but it does help him look better.

Jim Lampley: So it looks Malignaggi is using his jab to great effect, Roy.
Roy Jones: Yes, Malignaggi is using his jab to great effect.
He repeats whatever the other commentator(s) say but re-words, 9 times out o' fuckin' ten.

I like Jones commentary. He gives lots of little details that the average viewer wouldn't pick up on unless you know from first hand experience. That's why I think they should always have an actual boxer sitting down with the commentators to fill in that gap of knowledge missing. On the other hand, having personality and actual commentating ability is another thing.
Lennox Lewis made my ears bleed over and over and over and over and over until I just wanted to leave my TV on mute until the broadcast was over. He said some of the most obvious and dullest ***** a commentator could possibly come up with.
For some reason George Foreman I thought brought class to the show even if he didn't say the brightest things either.
With that said, I enjoy Max Kellerman as a commentator because I think he can relate to the fans better as him being one. He asks the questions we would probably ask during interviews and spitting out similar things during a fight that we can acknowledge behind our own TV.

Resigerent - Whatever **** it means yo!
Tarver, Hopkins, and Malignaggi are all better on the mic than Roy.
That said, I'll take Roy over Lennox Lewis or George Foreman any day of the week.
Add Jim Watt to that list as well useless bum sniffing twat, I don't rate Roy as the best commentator but he trumps most of those guys.
Weren't people having a go at Max Kellerman a few days back for having a disagreeing with Roy Jones jr in a fight?
Max might not be a pro fighter and sometimes Roy might know from personal experience but trust me I'd rather listen to Max.
OP wrote "resigerent," not resurgent.
