I don't get why you're showing me this. I say Quillin can't fight GGG because of Cold War and you show me a quote with Hershman saying they aren't looking for a July Quillin-GGG fight... Are you just agreeing with me or..?
Either way, here's a quote from Quillin himself saying he can't fight because of Cold War:
“Golden Boy will try to get whatever opponent they can for me," Quillin said. "I’m an American champion. A lot of those other guys, they come to our country to fight over here to fight in our homeland, and I’ve always said I was hoping to fight Sergio Martinez, Gennady Golovkin, all these different guys, but it’s not really my fault, the political thing going on. All I have to do is keeping doing me."

Ono things stopping it was Haymon and Schaeffer. With Schaeffer out, better chance of it happening. The fight never even made it to HBO because Schaeffer tried to get it on Showtime even though he knew it wasn't possible.
Haymon still a problem because he makes raw deals for the company. I know I have a crap fighter, but can you give him millions and return dates?
Let him sign with Al hopefully Santa Cruz gets a crack at him since he didn't want his get backs against Gonzalez.
Santa Cruz can't fight mares if there both haymon they will be matched with unworthy opponents since haymons job to protect fighters from
Losing
after all oscar did for mares. after all he did...
hope this traitor has a good time with al haymon.
is jhonny gonzalez with al haymon too?
you got to be kidding the guy signs with best manager and now hes a traitor to who exactly? ODLH? Who people say has not been involved with anything business in years? Give me a break the guy who built his career just left there is a reason the fighters respect richard more and thats saying a ton considering hoya used to fight. Its because he made their careers he made the company everything.

For such an irrelevant fighter it's going to be incredibly satisfying to see Quillin get demolished.
HBO Sports President Ken Hershman sat down with SI.com for a Q/A on the state of HBO Boxing.
SI.com: OK, I've got to ask: Did you consider approving Peter Quillin as Golovkin's next opponent?
KH: We're open to anybody who is willing to step up and fight Gennady Golovkin. You see a lot of people in the press saying they want to fight him but when the rubber meets the road, when it's time to put your signature on a piece of paper, there are creative ways out. I'm not suggesting Peter wouldn't sign. But we weren't exploring that for July. It wasn't offered to us for July. Nobody said, 'Hey, Peter Quillin is ready to take on Gennady Golovkin.' I think Peter would be a terrific test for Golovkin. A unification would be fantastic. We don't rule anything out. It's just got to sync up with our timing and our business objective."
SI.com: I ask because we know who promotes Quillin...
KH: The quality of the fight is unquestionable. Whether there is a business approach that syncs up to ours remains unknown. We're open to the conversation. We want to make investments in fighters we can get a return on."

You're probably right. GBP does have a better roster than Top Rank. However, I wasn't looking at this strictly as a GBP-Top Rank comparison. Quillin supposedly couldn't fight GGG because of the cold war and he's not promoted by Top Rank...That was a GBP/Al Haymon-HBO problem
Froch-Groves(probably the biggest fight so far this year), Provodnikov-Alvarado, Marquez-Alvarado(they sold out Forum and got solid ratings), GGG-Macklin, Lebedev-Jones, hell even Chavez-Vera I and II(best TV ratings). You want to bring up fights that haven't even happened? Then bring up Cotto-Martinez, Crawford-Gamboa(since they've already sold 10k+ tickets), Geale-Golovkin, and so on. These aren't/weren't all Top Rank, but a majority are/were. Some were international fights, but HBO or Top Rank played a huge role in almost all of them and they were(for the most part) damn good fights.

I don't even think it's fair to compare.
GB clearly had the bigger fights. GB had Matthysse vs. Garcia, Matthysse vs. Molina (this is a fight of year candidate too), Garcia vs. Herrera, Mayweather vs. Maidana, Mayweather vs. Canelo, Canelo vs. Lara is coming up soon, Guerrero vs. Berto, Porter vs. Brook is coming up soon, Maidana vs. Broner, and so forth.
It's unfair to compare because Top Rank simply has much less fighters to pair against each other. They have limited fighters, so they have no choice but to recycle fights and force fights even if they aren't in the same division. Also, all the big fights from GB, Haymon usually had one fighter or both.
Who is Pacquaio going to fight next for example? Marquez again? Who is Bradley going to fight next? Provodnikov again? Marquez again? So the comparison isn't fair to me.

While there are reports that Abner Mares will ink with Al Haymom, word is that he msy not be off the hook with Frank Espinoza just yet— Steve Kim (@stevemaxboxing) June 6, 2014
What are you talking about?? There's been good fights by everyone since the Cold War started. A majority of them had nothing to do with GBP and Haymon
Bradley-Provodnikov was fight of the year 2013. Rios-Alvarado, Kirkland-Tapia, Segura-Tyson Marquez were also some FOTY candidates that had nothing to do with Haymon.
Pacquiao-Marquez was fight of the year 2012.
Sure, Haymon made Matthysse-Garcia, Maidana-Broner, etc. But don't act like they're responsible for the best fights. They're not

Good for Mares. So right now it looks like GB will have exclusive control of Canelo and a bunch of b-sides, their future looking real bright with Oscar behind the wheel. It'll all become apparent after the Canelo/Lara card.
Mares signing is just further proof that GB is most likely hooped. B-hop is a part owner and won't even commit to GB. Floyd dropped them.
Anyone else think its a coincidence that most of the bigger name younger Established HBO fighters are in contract dispute ( Ward, M Garcia, Chavez )
Would anyone be surprised if they can get free their probably going to Haymon too the way things are going.
signing with the most respected advisor known for getting career paydays for his clients and that would disappoint you?? backwards ass mentality you dudes have these days
Sucking off a guy who doesn't want to do business with other promoters and make great fight...that's what is backwards...
Who brought us the best fights since the Cold War started? Schaeffer and Haymon! So fans should really watch what they say about Mares joining them to duck good fights.
Schaeffer as many people have already said grew Golden Boy not De La Hoya so Mares decision is justified

Love Haymon's method of signing everyone. He gets commissions on everything they do. Much better than being a Hollywood manager. His boys "book" every time they fight. Hardly genius.

How is this not going to disappoint us? You honestly think we as fans give a sh*t about Mares money? Don't get me wrong, I know why fighters do it, but don't act like fans should be praising Mares or any other Haymon fighters for signing to him. Haymon fighters have a reputation for making a lot of money for easy fights...It's great for the fighters, but why should the fans care? We only want to see good fights and Haymon doesn't have a reputation for making good fights on a regular basis.

Because he's going to be getting in the Titanic. Looks all comfortable and stuff at first but oh lord, is he in for a big surprise down the line.
