Joe on... comparisons with Carl Froch and the debate on who is superior
“I saw the piece written in the Argus about missing the two generations of big pay days, but I don’t have any issues or insecurities about how I rank compared to any of the boxers, from Chris Eubank and Nigel Been to Carl Froch and George Groves.
“People say that Froch has had 13 world title defences, well I had 25. People say he’s a three time world champion, but that just means he lost twice, whereas I was undefeated. You can’t compare Carl Froch to me; it’s not a fair comparison.
“Carl has never been the best of the best. He wasn’t when he lost to Kessler and everyone now would acknowledge he’s not at the same level as Andre Ward.
“He (Froch) has struggled in the biggest examinations of his career, even against George Groves who was 19-0; you would say it could have gone either way.
“Mikkel Kessler was undefeated when I beat him, at the peak of his powers and then I went to America.
“As far as I am concerned there is no comparison. I finished at the top, I got there and stayed there and I honestly don’t believe a fight between us would even have been close.
“Carl has a good chin and he hits hard, but styles make fights and I’d have been much, much too fast for him.
“When I watch him fight it frustrates me, because I think what I could have done, but its all hindsight.
“Eubank, Collins and Benn all dipped at the end of their careers and that’s why I wouldn’t change anything.
“My time was my time; I can’t do anything to alter how history will view the names who I beat.
“For the Americans to give me the respect, which took years, I felt like I went out in dominant fashion and I can’t have regrets about that. But I suppose part of me wishes I could’ve fought and beaten Carl.”

Joe would have beaten Froch and am a big fan of his, but he never gave Froch the chance to fight him, now Froch is a bigger name and has a better résumé than Joe.
That question doesn't have anything to do with your previous claim.
What is the start date of 'modern boxing history'? :lol1:
Recent times. I don't know. Let's say post Millennium.
Who in recent times has fought the string of opposition that Froch has?

well he didn't outland him that's been clearly proven but you think he did so i guess that's all that matters. throwing a lot of crap punches that don't land while getting hit in return=being the better man. you really understand boxing.
Watched it two weeks ago, so you can't just state things as Gospel truth anymore than I can. I watched the fight. And I love and watch a ton of boxing. Hopkins landed some good, clean shots on Calzaghe, but these were occasional. Meanwhile, Calzaghe adjusted to Bernard as the fight progressed, and was also landing punches on Hopkins; more frequently and aggressively, showing ring generalship which fights are also scored on. Bottom line is, I think Calzaghe clearly deserved the win, and the judges agreed. American judges.
I love Froch, but styles do make fights, and I think Calzaghe would beat him as well.
I think Joe feels threatened that Froch has in fact, surpassed him in popularity and greatness. I can honestly say...Carl Froch is a legend. Especially in the UK.
I watched it just a couple weeks ago. Competitive fight, but I think the better man that night got the decision without a doubt. Hopkins did score the nice KD in round 1, but he faded bad in the fight, and Calzaghe just kept coming on strong. Hopkins scored some good clean shots from time to time, but so did Joe, and on top of that, Calzaghe just plain outworked and outlanded him. I, personally, think Hopkins is lucky it wasn't a 15 round fight because I think Calzaghe would have won by an even wider margin. And with every record Hopkins breaks, as much as his haters hate it, it does enhance Joe's 'W' over him. Hopkins had it coming anyway with all of his racist nonsense pre-fight.

The Hopkins fight was far from a gift lol. I remember thinking it was a draw. Joe outworked him but Hopkins scored the kd and landed cleaner. From memory, not really a fight I wanna watch again lol

Froch better career how?
He clearly lost to Kessler when Mikkel was still game.
He clearly took a fight with J.Taylor after Taylor got his ass beat by Kelly twice and not to mention the two wars with Bhop...
He was schooled by Andre Dirrell but got a gift decision and Ward schooled him aswell lol.
His best wins are Pascall, Abraham and Bika...
Joes are Eubank, Bhop, Kessler
Abraham and Jeff Lacy are comparable both are overrated and soon as they stepped up they got exposed to not be that good and you can make a similar comparison to Richie Woodhall and George Groves but atleast Woodhall won a world title!
Bika????? Good post Numpty.
Joe is plain jealous.
FROCH is more Exciting.
FROCH sells more Tickets.
FROCH fights the best in his division.
can you see Froch taking a fight with Ashira or Manfredo??
Calzaghe had many fights with complete bums who never did anything to deserve a World Title fight.
Joe needs to STFU
Calzaghr would hae beaten froch 8-10 times, but didnt he fight Peter manfredo over froch????
and the MIGHTY Evans Ashira.
Calzaghe only beat Robin Reid with a very questionable split decision.
Calzaghe was the more skillful fighter, probably does a fair bit better in head to head match ups, but Froch is just a way more exciting and likeable fighter, with a better resume.
a pretty fair appraisal imo.
styles make fights; calzaghe was fast, and fit enough to run for 12 rounds so probably would have decisioned froch for the win most times.
but "destroyed"? no way jose.
Froch has an amazing resume and better than almost everyone in modern boxing history.
The one thing that will always be against him when it comes to the Calzaghe comparisons is that he had 2 close fights with Kessler. I thought he could have got the decision in the first fight but it was very close and could have gone either way. He won the second one clear but close.
Calzaghe completely outclassed a prime and undefeated Kessler at the peak of his powers to become the undisputed number 1 at Super Middleweight - something Carl has never been able to call himself as yet.
:lol1::lol1::lol1:
Froch will be remembered as a warrior that gave it his all and left everything in the ring. Calzaghe will only be remembered in Britain for his undefeated record and slapping punches. Froch would have laid him out.
oh ****ttttttt

just a cover story...come on, wake up
disgusting, and i meant to think hes a legend/all time great???
Hes putting peoples lives at risk.
Anyhow Calzaghe would school Roy jones at any point of his career.
Nuh uh uh. Roy never took ped's. It was a banned substance that was in over the counter ripped fuel at the time. Stop being a disrespectful b*tch to a legend.
just a cover story...come on, wake up
Kessler was green as hell when he fought Calzaghe. It was Froch who fought a prime Kessler the first time, a fight he arguably won.
Can't believe I missed this post
