Ok, I'm not gonna bother with a poll, lets just slash it out.
This topic got me thinking, from the "is ward the most overated blah blah"
but someone did mention that his style is ugly to watch . . . I haven't had the chance to watch many of his fights, only the ones on YT, But I find him fascinating to watch, he's quick, gets his opponents into situations where they don't feel comfortable, claims center of the ring, and as mentioned in the froch fight aswell, he's a come forward counter puncher, that forces opponents to jab atleast, to try n keep him off, so he's constantly pressing the action, Not to mention he's full of sneaky veteran tricks. You can make cases for not liking Floyd, Pac n some other fighters, but to me, Ward is the most complete boxer 'active' lol today. . . The only thing he lacks I think is that devastating once punch KO, but I don't mind that, I think he makes up for that in all the other aspects I've pointed out. . .
I saw comment on YT which said something about the reason he is inactive is because he tried to leave his promoter early or something, n filed a law suite against him, and as a result his promoter hasn't been finding him fights. I sure do hope this issue gets resolved soon because he's at his peak age now.
He doesn't really fight the same way each fight. I didn't particularly enjoy his win over Bika, for instance, but I thought his performance against Kessler was masterful -- extremely enjoyable.
Ward really didn't clinch much against either Froch or Dawson. It was bad early against Rodriguez, but Rodriguez was just as responsible for it. Ward would take the fight inside and Rodriguez had no answer but to grab.
Ward has become less of a clincher since Kessler, Bika, and Green, which were his first fights at a championship level.
At some point you can't blame it on his opponents when he smothers practically every single one with dirty tactics and holding. Look, that's his style and it works, but that doesn't mean I have to enjoy watching it. Sometimes it almost feels like a form of MMA instead of boxing. I still believe that it should be up to the ref's to penalize fighters for over clinching/holding so I can't blame it entirely on the fighter.
BTW I was at the Rodriguez fight (I got free tix) and the whole crowd was groaning in that fight but you're right that Rodriguez wasn't helping the matter. I don't think Rodriguez really has a track record in his past fights for fighting the way he fought against Ward. Ward forces all his opponents into that style of fight, credit to him for doing so.
It's also no coincidence that many of the guys who train with Virgil Hunter end up using the same tactics as Ward. Karim Mayfield, Amir Khan and Brandon Gonzales to name a few.
Bro I hate watching Klinchko every bit as much as I do Andre Ward. It has nothing to do with color and everything to do with clinching being a massive part of their game-plan. If the ref's would take away points more quickly these guys wouldn't get away with their bs. Also let's add Khan to the list for his last fight which was rife with fouls from Khan including a huge amount of headlocks and clinches/holding.

ahaha they all claim hes boring yet fail to acknoledge that its usually the oponent who refuses to engage and thats what often times makes the fight boring or so it seems to the casual eye. But yeah whatever wards just another darkskin to them of course they gonna give him a hard time. P4p #2 and still undefeated so suck on that.

His power is definitely his most underrated aspect
His power comes from his punches being accurate, fast and sneaky.
He is not heavy handed by any standard.. But good punching will make up for that.
The clinching is a turn off. Wards does things in the ring that most can't do. Even when he switches he doesn't lose anything. Extremely high boxing IQ
His power is definitely his most underrated aspect
he has a very hard left hook, and has gotten the respect of virtually everybody he's fought with it. his right hand is a baby punch.
kessler, froch, abraham, are ridiculously durable guys. edwin rodriguez is likewise a super durable guy, with a good chin and who is very large. they all respected the hook.
god's son across the belly.
Not the most exciting fighter.. But people harp on too much about his style.. He does what he has to do to win.. What people really underrate is his punching.. He wins fights because he is a superb puncher. Fast, accurate and sneaky lacking only KO power.
He is a bit of a whiner but that doesn't take away from his boxing skills, which he has in spades.
His power is definitely his most underrated aspect
after the prince blinded him with a forehead to the dome, kessler "agreed" to every ward clinch himself, and initiated or partially initiated the rest.
While Ward's hugging can be ugly and hard to watch, and certainly was against Green and Bika, Ward doesn't clinch just to clinch the way Khan did against Collazo or Wlad did against Povetkin. Most the time Ward is using the clinch to muscle fighters around and land. He almost always fights in the clinch.
It's not his fault fighters today can't handle a rough inside game.
He didn't hold against Froch or Dawson, and Rodriguez was just as responsible for how ugly that fight was early as Ward. After the 4th or so Ward didn't hold much and looked great.

It's the constant holding and lack of knock outs

I like Ward's style and think he's become more entertaining than people are giving him credit for. How can anyone knock his last three fights with Froch, Dawson and Rodrigues; Ward carried the fight offensively in all those bouts..........
