So they're willing to let Quillin fight against their exclusive network contract fighter. Only thing stopping the fight is Schaeffer..... I guess he's nice and cozy in the undercards
But what about WBO titlist Peter Quillin, who has become a staple of Showtime in recent years? Well, that’s the problem, the little “Cold War” that is plaguing the business. Quillin is aligned with Golden Boy Promotions and adviser Al Haymon, who have been embargoed from the network. HBO Sports Director of Programming Peter Nelson stated, “ doesn’t rule anybody out.”
“The discussions I’ve had with Peter and HBO at length and we have a long-term commitment to HBO and they’re committed to providing the platform for Gennady. As Peter said, they haven’t ruled anybody out, which means they would approve Quillin at some point. Whether Quillin would get in the ring with him is a different story. There’s a lot of politics in that situation but I strongly believe if Quillin wanted to make the fight, we would discuss it with HBO to approve him as an opponent,” explained Loeffler.

Can you explain that in layman's terms?
What does that mean?
If Schaefer gets fired from Golden Boy there is a probably a clause in his contract that says he cannot work for another promoter or be a promoter for a certain period of time. It's probably under two years or so, but that's just a guess from me on the time.
I wonder how much Golden Boy will have left after the Haymon fighters are gone. And by not signing Haymon fighters Golden Boy invested in to Golden Boy, wasn't Schaefer failing to do his job?
Glaser said Oscar's only got under 25 guys.
are they willing to let ggg on showtime to fight ?
Everything depends on Quillin. Since he wants this fight, he should step up and do everything he can to make this fight happen.

Schaefer's days at GBP are numbered and they are working out the details of his exit.
According to that guy.
Dunno what to think.
Hearing actual date on demise of Richard #Schaefer at #GBP, as negotiations underway as Schaefer has "non-compete" contract.#boxing #Oscar— Rick Glaser (@RickGlaser1) May 21, 2014

Peter Quillin is an inspiring champion. Golovkin's a good fighter but he just doesn't connect with people. Boxing fans have never enjoyed seeing a fighter knock his opponents out, and they never will.
Yes, knock outs are boring. We want to see move and pot shots galore for 12 rounds with sprinkles of holding here and there.
KOs are overrated.
Richard Schaefer's single-handedly killing boxing :nonono:
That's the worst part. It's bad enough to see fighters make excuses, but when promoters help facilitate making the fight fail, it's beyond disgusting.
Hoya needs to step in and help narrow down where the blame should lie.
Thats not what happen w/Stevenson and Kovelev (*sp?), therefore one fighter is in a better situation financially than the other.
that was the stevenson-fonfara they tried to bid out and not stevenson-kovalev. hbo is willing to pay for the stevenson-kovalev but not stevenson-fonfara so don't get that muddled up.
and besides in that matchup (stevenson-kovalev), stevenson is the A side so they're somewhat right do make demands. quillin on the other hand is a small b side to golovkin so what in hell does schaefer thinks he has to dictate terms?
Dude your speculating, and it's not an agenda to state as much when neither you nor I have all the facts. Like I said if Maidana camp was really unhappy with their deal, that would have said as much. None of us are privy to the contracts, so to sit here and besmirch his Manager, his promoter, and Floyd is really uncalled for.
Like I said, you guys entitled to believe what you want, but to have two multi billion dollar conglomerates bidding on the right to showcase your skills, sounds like a good situation to be in if your a fighter, and can create it.
these promoters negotiate a fix amount for the fighters upon signing of the fight contract. the amounts won't change even if the promoter would bid out the fight card to the networks. how the hell would that be for the best interest of the fighters? it's all for the best interest of the promoters.
Quillin is expected to make the biggest effort in making this fight happen since he was the one who called out GG. He claimed he wanted this fight. Let's see what happens.
I don't see anything very definitive in that statement, I see some speculation and HBO not wanting to look like the bad guy to their guy. That does not mean there was actual movement in the situation between GBP and HBO which would be required for GBP to even consider sacrificing Quillin like that.
Would Top Rank consider sacrificing Rios to Matthysse on Showtime just because it may be a good fight that could benefit their man if he happens to win, he might do that if it benefited him in a bigger way but in a one off Arum would not do it because where is the benefit to him in that scenario (which is his exact response to not paying JCC Jr. for the Golovkin fight in a one off deal).
You don't know how much Maidana is making, which exactly was my point to the guy before you had to go all Johnny Tapia w/this situation, so to insulate he was somehow screwed financially without CREDITABLE evidence, once again is a flat out lie.
maidana is not getting any ppv upside that's for sure as the ppv did not turn out profitable. granted he got money for the tv rights in Argentina, still that isn't much for a fight of that magnitude considering that a guy like rios got 3 million fighting in macau.
it just didn't fit your agenda dude. you're a moron if you think schaefer proposing a bidding will be to the best interest of the fighters.
I reckon they want to keep him on undercards fighting bums and avoiding GGG until the time is right for canelo to move up then you can have canelo fighting quillin and possibly getting himself a middleweight title while STILL avoiding GGG ... and martinez for that matter (unless martinez (A) looks like crap v cotto and scraps to a wins or (B) cotto actually beats him) ... either way title for Canelo/Quillin without either of them having to get beaten up by GGG.
