"We made a good offer to Richard Schaefer (CEO of Golden Boy Promotions). But the next day he said that they want to arrange between channels, the winner will receive the rights to broadcast the fight between Golovkin and Quillin. The proposed option was not acceptable to us, because the team is not going to turn away from their partners on HBO, whose support Gennady can always count on," Hermann said.
So Schaefer wanted the fight, But he also wanted HBO and Showtime to bid to buy the fight. Whats wrong with this offer?
Why no details of this "good" offer made? and where was the HBO "support Gennady can always count on" in Monte Carlo vs Adama?
K2 has bodged this negotiations up. Its a fair negotiation in my books, as both fight on different networks so let them bid for the fight.
GGG-Quillin would have been a good fight. Gratz.
If GGG has a contract for broadcast on North American soil why would they go to the purse bid? And give all that money to Showtime (which apparently has lost money on TBE)?
Quillin isn't as popular as GGG. Like Miguel Cotto, Golovkin is class A in this fight.
They could stage the fight outside Continental USA
That literally changes nothing, they don't own his rights to fight in or out of the country they own all television rights in the country. No matter where the fight takes place, it can not be shown on any other television channel other then HBO. That's why his Adama fight was broadcasted in like 300 countries but not the US. Once HBO said they weren't going to broadcast it, no one else had the opportuinty to. HBO is the only channel that can show his fights in the US no matter where the fight takes place.
HBO does not have a contract with GGG, just as they do not have a contract with Pacquaio. If HBO had a contract with Pacquaio, he would not have been allowed to fight Mosley on Showtime (remember that fight?). GGG is free to fight on either HBO or Showtime. He chose to fight on HBO. That is why Schafer suggested a bidding contest. GGG's team turned it down likely because they were concerned that Showtime would outbid HBO.
GGG does have an exclusive contract with HBO, just like Sergio Martinez. Schaefer countered with Showtime knowing damn well HBO wasn't going to let this happen. What do you expect K2 to do? Ask HBO to break the contract so it can bidding war where they will most likely need to spend more money? HBO would never allow that. It's stupid and Schaefer knows this
Here's a couple sources proving HBO has exclusive rights in North America not just the USA.

Bad analogy but whats new when dealing with flo mos. Pac only fights on ppv, with guarantees made by Arum via ppv projections, not by Hbo. Ggg purse is covered by Hbo.

I heard that HBO does have an exclusive contract with Golovkin. That's why there was no US TV for the Adama fight.

Would HBO bid for the rights to broadcast a fighter they already have exclusive North American broadcasting rights with?
Does Quillin have an exclusive Network contract?

How about the simple FACT that Golovkin's fights can only be shown in the States on HBO.
I seriously can't see how is dude can't understand this... a malnourished North Korean fetus could probably understand it betterThey could stage the fight outside Continental USA
Article clearly says they could bid on what channel airs it and GG just didn't want to risk going to showtime.

There was no bid because GGG is under contract with HBO.
I know you are somehow getting at him being scared to fight or ducking a Quillen fight which is laughable.

Are you not aware of what a contract is?

I can feel the HBO contract argument and that was always a big hurdle to overcome because HBO won't deal with GBP. GBP might be willing to sacrifice Quillin as an olive branch but that requires some real movement from HBO which is not really clarified at all and probably did not happen.
What I don't get is why GBP is only to blame for this, as HBO is a larger part although they are right for wanting the guy they contracted on their air.
Golovkin has a contract with HBO and cannot fight on SHO.
/// End of pointless thread.

;14570591']Stop repeating yourself I know exactly what you mean, but Im still skeptical about the power they can enforce to stop such a bout happening on showtime if K2 agreed on the bid.
So why are you playing full retard. HBO has an exclusive North American TV contract with Golovkin, so he cant fight on any other network. If there is a purse bid, HBO would have to allow it (why would they), or the fighter gets stripped of the title. Another option would be to hold the fight in a different countries where HBO's contract doesnt extend to. How can they enforce it? Its called a lawsuit
