Mine was just a quick shake out of what came to mind. I know it could get way, way more complicated. there were so many great fights and fighters in that huge time period. To be honest that's really too big of a span to make a rankings system on. It should ten years tops.
yeah or extend it to 25-30 fighters cos a lot of the guys beyond the top in this or any list can often be grouped very closely together. I think thats the case for my list too.
btw I left out Hatton....erm think he could get in there above Vitali possibly, maybe even Finito but those are tough calls and Froch just barely gets kept out of he top 20. It's a real tough, I'll have to sit down and make a proper list one of these days.

You?? Man that revived my love for boxing! I just KNEW he was gonna whoop Tyson's behind. Begged my big brother's to put some cash on it. Then asked to borrow money so I could bet myself. I have never been that crazed watching a fight. NEVER. Sh*t man, the memories. The gameplan, the drama, the action, the conclusion...

Absolutely!
:lol1: :lol1:
Absolutely. Love(d) his heart man. You don't understand how big the parties used to be at my house when he fought. LOL. I'm talking HUGE parties.
And honestly, his Tyson win was like the highlight of my youth as a boxing fan. I've NEVER been more happy. Our house was shaking from excitement! Wish we still got fights like that from the heavyweights now-a-days.

Seriously. What couldn't he do? Box, brawl, slug, use his head, swarm, in-fighting, counter-punching, great chin, power, quick...everything. And what a brilliant gameplan against Tyson.

Roy Jones Jr. , Pernell sweet Pea Whitaker, Manny Pacquaio, Julio Cesar Chavez sr. , Floyd Mayweather jr. , Felix Tito Trinidad, Oscar Dela Hoya, Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield, Michael Moorer at 175-190, Bernard Hopkins at 160, James Toney at 168,Shane Moseley at 135, Antonio Tarver at 175, Chris Eubank at 160, Joe Calzaghe at 168, Virgil Hill at 175, Michael Nunn at 160, Terry Norris at 154, Marco Antonio Barrera at 122.
Pretty much agree....
but where's JMM and Erik Morales in the mix?
Yes sir. .....

Agreed -- from that Olympics to present.
I'd drop Holy a few notches down because he was so uneven in the 90's to present but I'd do it grudgingly as I don't believe he gets the respect he deserves. A truly special fighter.
Yes sir. .....
Interesting thread. Larry actually made a decent one.
Giving the man props.
In and around their prime? Why only that? What if someone did great things here and there like Hopkins? Makes no sense...it seems like just picking and choosing.
Then.....YOU just had to pick and chose yourself, eh?
Same for me because he did good work in the 80's aswell.
The list would be easier to make from 1984 to present.

Thank you for saving me the time :lol1:. Holyfield is the tough one IMO.

Tough to make an ordered 20. Here's my attempt off the top of my head.
1. Roy Jones
2. Whitaker
3. Holyfield
4. Mayweather
5. Pacquaio
6. Chavez
7. Hopkins
8. McCallum
9. Toney
10. Morales
11. Barrera
12. Marquez
13. Trinidad
14. Oscar
15. Lewis
16. Lopez
17. Carbajal
18. Mosley
19. Norris
20. Nelson
Hard list to do solely because a lot of guys overlap the time period.
For example Nelson would be a lot higher but his best work was in the 80's. A lot of guys who were still fighting in the 90's did their best work or good work in the 80's like Mike Tyson for example.
McCallum the same, Chavez the same.
Not thought about the list at all.
Thank you for saving me the time :lol1:. Holyfield is the tough one IMO.

I can't be too critical of lists, because I'm too lazy to form my own... But at Naz at 17, how's that work?
And JMM below Joke? Come on man...
Like I said, pretty much off the top of my head but my top 10 is pretty settled. Maybe JMM can be better and he has some good wins but he also has some solid losses and he went life and death with a part time law student.
Naz deserves to be in any post 1990 top 20, he was the leading featherweight of his time and held every belt on offer, that means he beat champions, former champions and future champs along with top 10 contenders. Add to that his explosive power and speed, he was a great fighter. Simple as that really.
Interesting thread. Larry actually made a decent one.
LOL yeah, something not to do with Floyd for once, wow!

Who are the greatest fighters between 1990-present I would imagine is the question.
Top fighters from 1990-2014, in and around there prime doing their best work
