This is kinda old and my favorite fighter since i was like 6 was ali but i always thought foreman looked like he was on cocaine or something in the corner in between rounds after first 2 rounds or so i just searched and this popped up. Maybe his trainer didnt drug him but gave him something to speed him up which tired him out quick?
Was Muhammad Ali's "rope-a-dope' strategy the only dope involved in the "Rumble in the Jungle?"
George Foreman isn't so sure.
In his recently published memoirs, "God in My Corner," Foreman says he was drugged just before the Oct. 30, 1974 title fight in what is now the Democratic Republic of the Congo -- then known as Zaire.
Foreman, then the world heavyweight champion, was a heavy favorite to beat Ali, the former champion. But Ali deflected or absorbed Foreman's punches as he leaned against the ropes, allowing Foreman to tire himself out in the tropical heat. He knocked Foreman out in the eighth round for the title.
But Foreman, now 58, says something else tired him. In his memoirs he says before the fight, his trainer gave him something to drink that tasted like medicine.
"I almost spit it out ... 'Man, I know this water has medicine in it,'" Foreman wrote. "I climbed into the ring with that medicinal taste still lingering in my mouth."
"After the third round, I was as tired as if I had fought 15 rounds. What's going on here? Did someone slip a drug in my water?" he wrote.

if he spit it out then how exactly would that effect him

Better?
It was the 70s, it was a huge money fight and it was shown worldwide. I can definitely see some shady activity going down because a lot was at stake. Foreman has no reason to lie at this point of his life. He's telling the truth. Maybe he wasn't aware of it back then or even thought he'd keep it to himself out of respect for Ali, but it seems he's now ready to come forward with this information.
Foreman's been making excuses for Zaire for 30+ years.
He just got beat. Ali outfought and outsmarted him.
Foreman thought he could stop him when he went to the ropes. Ali was landing almost all the clean head shots throughout the fight, but Foreman showed no respect for Ali and thought his power would win it for him. It didn't.

I think foreman does really believe this but I doubt very much he was drugged. it was hot as hell that night and he just simply threw way too many power shots that ali to his credit absorbed. it seemed like an obvious case of a fighter not pacing himself and not expecting a long fight
Liston took a dive both times, Foreman was drugged.
Ali is so great that all these years later no one can believe he was really that great. Not even the fighters he beat.
Foreman fought foolishly, punching himself out, and leaving himself wide open all night long for Ali's quick straight punches.
He was physically and mentally defeated.
Never heard Foreman claim this. In the past he has been very humble in reference to his loss to Ali. He even said he was overconfident to a fault and started believing his own hype. He even goes as far as saying that he channeled a little of Ali in his second and more fan friendly personality during his comeback attempt and success.
Nah he's always had a lot of excuses. In his autobiography By George, he talks about possibly being drugged, and being distracted by a friend in the audience rooting for Ali.
It wasn't Foreman's best night, but there are no excuses.
What about the Jimmy Young fight? Same thing. He just got outsmarted and outboxed. It happens to all fighters.
Foreman was famous for his good chin as well as his power. Ali hit him with a good combination but the punches didn't seem hard enough to KO the rugged Foreman. No way to know for sure and the fight was probably completely on the up and up but it was a strange fight.

Yes back in those days trainers slipped their guys all kinds of power boosters. But what made G tired was his really heavy punches.
And the i would say the heat too.

ya no doubt about that look at the boxer on my sig lol
Um his trainer gave him a drug and he thinks it has something to do with Ali?
Ali was a trash talker and loved the ladies but he would never hurt another fighter. And even if he found out he would have said something. That was what made him great in my book.
ya it sounds like his trainer gave him something to help if anything thats what i was thinking i always thought it literally looked like he snorts something in corner after 2nd round i think and he looks all spaced out lol no joke
I always thought Mike Tyson was drugged or on something during the Lennox Lewis fight...the post interview was so weird to me, even wiping blood from Lewis' face.
