Personally I don't know the guy but I can't stand his commentating. He should go back to wrestling. I like how Roy Jones Jr always makes him look stupid when he doesn't know what he's talking about. Who else dislikes Max ?
Max is a know-it-all and conducts horrible interviews.
People love to hate on Merchant and Big George but that was the most entertaining team they've had.

Rjj is the worst. He's a bumbling idiot.
When I listen to Kellerman on a HBO broadcast, it always reminds me of that scene in 40 Year Old Virgin where Steve Carrell's character gives away the fact that he's a virgin by comparing a tit to a bag of sand.
Now to another virgin, that would probably sound like a perfectly sound comparison. But everyone else hears it and thinks "A bag of sand?....Dude are you a virgin?"
That's what Kellerman sounds like when he talks boxing.
I used to think Max was pretty good but the whole HBO crew....well he and Lampley are so biased for their name fighters, that it gets annoying at times. RJJ is like that too but he at least deviates when the "other" guy is doing good work. Max tries to put a new age spin on things but both he and Lampley act like they know every single thing about the sport and are the end all and be all of boxing truth.
I still say to this day that old ass Merchant was one of the most entertaining commentators around. He would call out the house fighter and it was just as funny as it was sad watching him get lost during one of his drunken post-fight stories.
Indeed, nothing annoys me more than Max going on and on comparing the HBO "house fighter" to an all-time great while the HBO "house fighter" is actually into a fight against a very live dog. For example, during the Chocolatito vs Cuadras fight, in the 3rd or 4th rd, Max was wasting time comparing Gonzalez to Alexis Aguello while Cuadras was putting some work on Roman. Max, how about describing the fight and reserve the hyperboles for another time!
Don't even get me started on how he was so condescending with Sor Rugvisai during the post fight interviews.
Did anyone catch this tool's interview with Rungvisai after Chocolatito lost?
"You just beat.....You just got the decision against what many people regard as the P4P best fighter in the world."
What a fu*king dickhead. That sort of remark, if it has any place at all, should be reserved for blatant highway robberies. Kellerman decided to frame Rungvisai's hard earned win in what was a close fight as some sort of fraudulent decision just because their guy lost.
Honestly HBO's coverage of that fight was a disgrace. Embarrassing stuff.
i gave up on commentary long time ago. all these mofos are pushing agendas and d*ck riding. HBO, Showtime, Box Nation, whoever. . I'm watching fights with foreign commentators now so I can make up my own mind about who won. not understanding a word they say helps. and with those guys theres no "unofficial" worthless card flashed across the screen. that sh*t right there is nothing but mind control. I don't need Lederman telling me who won the damn round.
watching fights with those guys you get caught up with their bias instead of focusing on the fight.
and Max needed to be smacked for how he disrespected Rungvisai post fight.
Yeah, the way he tried to steal credibility from Rungvisai was some shady MSM type schit. I was just hoping for a good fight and I guess pulling for Chocolatito to get the win. During the fight, I was like damn, this guy is doing a number on Gonzalez. He deserves all the credit in the world for a great performance and HBO should be putting that guy on and pushing him like they were pushing Gonzalez.
He keeps trying to tell you how 'special' and 'sensational' everything you're watching is. But unfortunately he's not quite eloquent enough to do it without sounding like he's trying to sell you shit out of the back of his car.
LMAO...that is a good point. Pretty accurate description.

This is a picture of the canvas Kellerman was standing on when he talked that shit to Rungvisai.

What a prick.
I used to feel indifferent towards him but lately his ignorance of the sport is showing. He tries to be more fair to fighters than the average commentator but his woeful ignorance is becoming an issue.
Like when he says certain fighters have a zero percent chance to win fights it is just not factually true. Nothing is a 100 percent guarantee in life except for the fact that we're all going to die one day. It annoys the hell out of me when he gives fight predictions and says so and so "has a 0 percent chance to win"
He's a biased clown. This is a guy who insisted that Butler shouldn't have lost his boxing license after he hit Grant with a cheap shot after the fight and broke his jaw. The same Butler who would later kill Max's brother with a hammer. He was friends with Butler and defended that low-life. His shameless coverage of certain fighters kills his credibility.
That said, he is way more tolerable than Ranallo.

I don't dislike Max generally, but I came here to write exactly this. The BoxNation hosts in the studio actually called him out on it during the live broadcast as being a insulting comment to say to a fighter who came from nothing and just fought his heart out to overcome huge odds.
I think the problem with the HBO broadcasts is that the executives are putting too much pressure on Lampley and Kellerman to sell the product. Kellerman has been okay in the past and does better on radio and ESPN. During the HBO broadcasts though he's constantly using hyperboles and is cringeworthy.
You could smell the desperation on Saturday night. If both Gonzalez and Golovkin had lost the lights would have been going off.
HBO's glory days were great. Most of my favourite boxing memories are from that time. But lately there are nights when you almost wished they would go out of business. A once great boxing platform is now at sky sports levels of bias and exaggeration.
It's his two-faced personality that annoys me the most. There is no bigger di*k-sucker of an interviewer when talking to a big name fighter who has just won.
But if he's talking to some little known guy, a regular b-sider, he acts like he's the star and the fighter is deserving of no respect whatsoever. The guy's salary is paid by the men who just went through 12 rounds of hell in the ring. You can ask hard questions, but the very least you must do is show these men respect.
He's good at commentating but terrible at interviews. Watch his next interview, no humour, sad puppy eyes and looks nervous like he's afraid he's going to be punched.
I miss Merchant:
"Aren't you embarrassed?"
"Well, he should have joined the circus then!"
"I'd rather watch tyres spin than watch this"
"wake me up when it's over, Jim"

The guys on Boxnation were kicking off about that interview, truly a disgrace.
Max has always come across as someone who is doing boxing because he couldn't make the cut for basketball or some other mainstream sports commentary. I don't sense that he "loves" boxing like Lampley does. Say what you will about Jim (I sure do) but he eats, bleeds, and (literally) cries boxing. Max frequently gets historical moments wrong because he's looking them up when he puts together his fight-night scripts.
