Breaking down the numbers why 40 million only was an absurd offer from floyd

I know this is a topic that people bring up a lot, and an old one at that, but I wanted to actually break it down. *sorry for the long post* Okay, Ive seen this argument used a lot around here, and of course people have always countered with "its only 40 million guaranteed, floyd gets the ppv revenue and everything else" which is obviously a good counter argument and the discussion should end there, but when Floyd fans say "well it was his highest pay day anyway, he should have taken it", I'll explain why that is just insanely crazy to even think pacqiuao should accept that offer. But here is the numbers first lets say pacman accepted this offer, and floyd gets the ppv revenue and and the gate revenue. Pacman would get his 40 million, and floyd would get the rest. How much is the rest? Lets break it down Pacman vs Bradley 2 generated 49 million dollars in ppv revunue for 750k buys. Now thats already a lot of money, but how many buys would floyd vs pacman do? A LOT more. If canelo vs floyd can do 2.2 million buys, floyd vs pacman could easily do 3 million buys, probably more. But lets be safe and say its 3 million. to put this into perspective of how much floyd makes off of ppv, according to Forbes it takes 1.5 million buys for Floyd to make 50 million all things considered. so we times it by 2, thats already a 100 million dollars right there. plus live gate revenue and any other ways of making money that pac wont be getting. That could be 10s of millions of dollars, probably 15 million dollars for floyd. What about Guaranteed purse? pacman clearly didn't mention that, but you better bet your ass floyd would get a guaranteed purse, and certainly higher than mannys, lets be real safe and low and say 50 million. Truly speaking how much is floyd making that night? with cuts and giving to promoters and such... Pacqiuao 40 million Floyd 115 million So how much is floyd getting percentage wise? 75% of the money, manny 25%, and Im not even considering the fact that they could easily increase the price of the ppv to at least 10 dollars higher if they wanted to. Just insane of floyd to give manny an offer that is potentially only 25% or less knowing how big of a star manny is. Manny could make this money in two fights and be fine, this is supposed to be a super fight and manny is right expecting super money, not just a little higher than he gets now. it takes two fighters to make a super fight, and floyd acts like he is the only one that matters and that is simply wrong

Last time I checked pacquiao literally sold the Bradley PPV on his own without any recognisable chief support, Mayweather has had the luxury of Garcia, Matthysse, Khan and Broner over at show time, which is a great strategy, hand it to GBP for putting on good shows but with TR the yare literally just selling Pacquiao on his own and he still does almost a million. That's impressive. And he is arguably the biggest name in the sport. Pac is even the bigger draw. Floyd is B side. ;)

Good offer for a moron maybe, Pac would have been an IDIOT if he had accepted, you would see this in econ 101 text books 2 decades from now as an example of what NOT TO DO when negotiating a contract. No NEGOTIATIONS happened, it was an offer that was immediately rejected. Negotiations take place when there is a back and forth, one side wanted to negotiate, one side didnt. Its obvious by hanging up the phone who didnt want to negotiate.

If you are the B-side, whats wrong with taking less the first time if you're sure you can beat him. Just offer him the same or even less the next time in the rematch... Problem solved, right?!?!?! why cant pac supporters comment on this... A rematch would be pretty much garanteed as FMJ is a proud dude. It's a gamble but isnt it a gamble worth taking, if you think you're the better fighter? There is no "a side, b side" to this. They are both A sides. When you claim one is b side, you're relegating him to a status he is well beyond. Manny is a face of boxing. Its like putting Deniro and Pacino in the same movie and claiming one is the star over the other. They're not over eachother, they are on equal footing.

Where did you get that info from? Nobody knows how much this fight could have done, but the only thing for sure is that it would have shattered all records. In 2007, before the entire country entered the digital age, before every household had on demand video and internet, Floyd and Oscar Sold 2.4M PPVs. The growth of the market and available audience was showcased when Floyd fought Canelo and sold 2.2 Million. If Floyd could sell 2.2 million against Canelo, what do you think he would do against his only Rival in terms of drawing power, resume and threat. This is the fight the entire world without any help from promoters has hyped for the last half decade. Everyone would be talking about this fight, there would be advertisements and events everywhere. It would be called the fight of the century and for a couple months, everybody in the world would become a temporary bandwagon boxing fan. Half would back Pacquiao, Half would back Mayweather, and both sides would go at each other relentlessly until the night of the fight and generate even more buzz and hype in the process. Anyone who's ever been interested in watching any fight, any combat sport would buy this PPV. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it broke 3 mil, and possibly more. **** Edit: I'm speaking in future tense, but truthfully this fight isnt as big as it was a couple years ago. It would still sell but not the situation I described above. This is an excellent post, I love the way you explained this
