Wishful thinking from a fan but hey.
It's not that Mayweather-Maidana doing 850K is bad, it's a pretty good number for a PPV fight. Oscar only had 4 fights do over a million, and 2 of them were with Floyd and Manny. Floyd and Manny have both done more fights over a million than him.
But with Floyd's crazy big guarantee's, I don't know man. Mayweather-Guerrero did like 850-900K or whatever it was, and he was guaranteed 32 million. It was a bit of a financial loss for Showtime probably in large part because of Floyd getting THAT MUCH. Floyd would probably have opted to fight Canelo next anyways, but that fight allowed everyone to recover. And though Floyd got an even bigger guarantee, that fight made more than any other fight in history. It allowed Showtime to make up any loss and then some.
Now with Maidana doing roughly the same ballpark as Guerrero did, the only other HUGE MASSIVE fight would be Pacquiao probably. I don't know. Wishful thinking from a fan.
Even if the Mayweather has gone bad financially for Showtime and CBS I'm sure they can eat some of the losses because I'd imagine their resources are deep. Plus it could justified as a play to divert the boxing audience from HBO and to them which they might take the financial hit for.
What I don't understand is Golden Boy's role in promoting/co-promoting Mayweather fights. From what I've gathered, they rake in that much from Floyd fights. He gets the lion's share of the purse split plus PPV residuals. It makes me wonder what Golden Boy gets out of it. The opponents get chump change in comparison to Floyd's purses. Also Oscar remarked that Floyd's beaten 8 of his guys referring to GBP opponents. It was a tongue in cheek comment about Floyd, but reading into it, that may be the reason he's quarreling with Schaefer. He's probably unwilling to keep putting on these Floyd shows when his fighters just get beat and Golden Boy doesn't get much money out of it.
Basically my question is what does Golden Boy get out of co-promoting Mayweather PPV's? If anyone knows.
A very healthy flat fee. Floyd likes to exaggerate about money to say the least....
Don't let floyd fool you with the I keep 100% of the revenue he gets more than manny but golden boy makes good money too.

A khan fight is the most logical thing to do next, If he fights Maidana again it will propbably do the same amount of numbers again due to the fact that floyd won the fight and not many media outlets thought that maidana won except some emotional maidana fans or floyd haters.
If Floyd's guarantee is water tight then there are limits to what Showtime can do to force anything. I guess they can put pressure on Haymon but good luck with that. A 1.5m average is crazy. I don't know what they were thinking or what they thought was going to happen.
Arum is running real short on options so maybe there's a chance he's willing to engage in serious talks. Not much evidence of it yet though. As for Floyd/Haymon, it probably depends on whether or not Espinoza is freaking out.
but if Manny decides to promote himself the fight will happen
Yup, just like when he agreed to Commissioner Mayweather's drug testing demand protocol, fight was signed immediately. Can't wait :boxing:
I want to see the Khan fight. I think that fight could sell pretty well, with all the m8ties and the Pakistani fan base Khan has.
The Maidana rematch would sell well too, but I want to see the Khan fight.
You think that's a good match up? I mean yes Khan has speed but his last fight wasn't nothing special.

Maidana rematch will do over 1 million. Pac won't realistically happen until next year. Not a long enough time between now and September to sort out promotional/network/venue beefs.
May is damn near half way over. They need to have everything finalized by mid June I would think to give the typical 90 days for promo.
