First of all I am a Pacman fan, loved all his fights up until the Margarito fight he was IMHO the true fighter of the decade and a joy to watch
But this version of Pacman is a lot less spectacular, age has creeped up and his power has diminished. Add to that that Top Rank simply has no match ups for him that would enthuse fans anymore. Marquez at 41 V? Bradley 3? Is anyone really waiting for that? Provodnikov who is a nobody will also not do more than 500k views.
Has anyone seen the Bradley numbers? I doubt they are over 600k.
So the question is why would any non die hard fan buy an 80 dollar fight, of an aged fighter with opposition that doesn't excite anyone on a card filled with bums and nobody's?
Hence my question is Pacman still a PPV fighter or can he only remain a PPV fighter if he moves to Golden Boy?
PS this is a thread about Pacman not about Mayweather so any comments including him positive or negative are irrelevant
You can see the trend with the Mayweather fights too. No more million + buys on a routine basis regardless of who you are because the damn prices are too high. Yet, they keep raising the prices and complaining that it's the fighters' fault for the "less than impressive numbers". It's that corporate mentality that ruins most businesses and it's ruining PPV's as well.
I hear you. Honestly, even when the prices went up I still bought Pacquiao's PPVs because I always get my money's worth. $70 is a steep price tag though considering my cable bill is already $100. Buying a PPV basically doubles the bill. If PPVs were $29.99 I'd be buying quite a few more instead of just buying Pacquiao's.
No. He's Not.
Ha! Seeing as his fights are the only PPVs I ever order I wouldn't object to this at all, hell make it $29.99.

These dumb ass promoters need to realize that they are overpaying these boxers and charging ridiculous amounts for these fights in a crap economy isn't gong to fly. Some people would rather pay the electric bill than pay $80 for a PPV that would have cost $50 a few years ago.
I think Pacquaio needs to lower his PPV to $39 he's not a $70 PPV guy anymore

Whether Pac wins or loses he engages and thats what fans want.

1) Manny vs Bradley 2 and Manny vs Marquez 4 were awesome fights ..... I don't care about the freaking PPV # ...... but you need to factor in that Bradley is not an easy sell because he is relatively an unknown to casual fans (zero fan base). With Marquez, the PPV numbers are usually decent.
2) Manny vs Marquez 5: Marquez still needs to win his upcoming fight but if he does, the fight with Manny will be big. The anticipation will be big. The PPV numbers will do well.
3) The undercards have not been that good so the only sell is the main event. So that makes it more difficult to sell. So if the undercard would be stacked, Manny's PPV numbers would increase.
4) Manny still does PPV numbers that are good. Not many who can equal what he does.
5) How many other PPV fighters have spectacular fights each and every time that they fight? Actually, it's rare that the fight matches the hype.
no matter what way you spin it....800k is not bad, especially considering all of pacs best ppvs came against guys with huge fanbases. tim bradley has like 4 fans lol

Obviously you are a floydiot alt the way you asked only the flyodiot person would ask. Hello? He just did 750-800k buys Ok?
I would love to see how a Pacquiao PPV sold with a stacked undercard. Not that I'm going to claim Mayweather's PPVs sell only because of undercards, but it certainly helps. Has Pacquiao ever had a PPV card to support him that even approached the cards Mayweather's had the past couple of years?
add the Cinco de Mayo date? guarantee over a million buys.
I can't remember the last time Pacman had a stacked undercard except when he had SHIming in China but it wasn't PPv in China anyway so didn't matter. There was a time when TR used to put on the best shows, I have no idea what'd happened to them since.
And on a Cinco de mayo date, Pac v some good opponents, possibly Marquez, with Jr on the undercard, throw in someone like Mikey and/or Nonito...that's 1.5 mill easy. I might as well do ARum's job for him.
Move him to HBO2 or HBO Latino.
LOL yeah
I still think he's a ppv fighter his last fight sold around 750k to 800k which isn't bad. There were a lot of fans including my self that didn't have to much interest in the rematch. Plus the undercard sucked. I believe if Arum stacked the undercards Pac would sell a lot more.
pacquiao literally sold the Bradley PPV on his own without any recognisable chief support, Mayweather has had the luxury of Garcia, Matthysse, Khan and Broner over at show time, which is a great strategy, hand it to GBP for putting on good shows but with TR the yare literally just selling Pacquiao on his own and he still does almost a million. That's impressive. And he is arguably the biggest name in the sport.
Imagine if TR put Chavez Jr, Provodnikov and Rios on the undercard. Or Ward, Kovalev. That would sell over a million easy considering for the Pacman is doing on his own.

his power is one thing that you know for sure hasnt diminished, he is just fighting guys who are tougher to put away.
i think it depends on the match up (as it should with all fighters). the rios fight for example shouldnt have been ppv, the bradley rematch obviously should.
same thing applies to his future bouts. there arent too many good fights out there though, only TRP fighter off the top of my head that would be worthy of ppv is JMM 5. then again if thats not a ppv nothing is.
