"We're between 750,000 and 800,000. Sure, it's a disappointment," stated Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum, who recently revelaed the number of pay-per-view buys for last months rematch between previoiusly undefeated former champion Timothy Bradley and multi-division world champion Manny Pacquioa. Though the numbers are an increase from the 475,000 buys that Pacquiao generated in his return bout against Brandon Rios last November, they're far from the 1.2 million buys that Arum had predicted before the fight.:soapbox:
"I'm telling you, it is what it is. The numbers are the numbers," Arum recently explained to ESPN.com. "The absence of Mexican or Hispanic opponent hurt. If you had a challenger like, for example, Marquez, the fight would do over a million buys. Tim is a great fighter, but he's not Hispanic and we tried everything to energize the black community without that much success. But we all made money on the fight. We did OK.":fingersx:
While Arum was quick to point out that the fight was still profitable for everyone involved, one has to wonder if the lower than expected numbers will impact the remainder of Pacquiao's $20 million guarantee, which he has yet to receive:sad2:(Pacquiao collected a $6 million check on fight night and the remainder of the guarantee is supposed to be paid out in the weeks following the fight).:blackeye:

I suppose it's all relative. If Cotto and Martinez are of Guarantees of 3 million or so and it gets 500k, that's really good, if Pac or Floyd are guaranteed 20-30 million and it gets 800k or so buyers, even though that's a lot more money produced there's a smaller profit margin. I don't see how these showtime Mayweather fights are making them any money if he, as he claimed, makes 35 million up front and another 30 after the ppv bonus, because that's just about every penny the ppv generates on one guy, without the split for the ppv carriers, under card fighters, advertising etc.
No **** you think it was a huge success, get pacs and arums **** out of ur mouth
Imagine if Floyd did those number, he would be the first one in the thread talking nonsense
When will that "buisnessman" finally learn that you need a good undercard to sell the fight, not only the main event itself.
Preach, Arum should know this but alas I think his age has finally caught up to him.
I agree. Also I don't think arum has built up/ marketed Bradley enough.0
I'm not sure he can or will. Bradley needs some charisma imo. I don't see him being a top marketing fighter
Bob Arum is always taking back handed shots at Timothy Bradley.
I actually think he took shots at the Black community for not supporting one of their own..While the Latin community does..That's what I got from it anyway..

SMFH!!!!!!!
Damn thief still robbing Pac!!
Sadly this will be skipped by most on this site, especially the Arum defenders.

Amen that was the worst undercard ever
The important thing is that everyone involved made money
It was a great fight with two top P4P guys swinging for the fences
800k vs Bradley is a huge success.
I think Bradley vs JMM did like 350k buys
No **** you think it was a huge success, get pacs and arums **** out of ur mouth
I thought those #s were good, PAC clearly # 2 in the sport even though it did less then the first fight. PAC probably not seeing much of that remaining 14 mil though.
If PAC stays with TR the only in house fight that would crack 500k is Marquez 5. If Arum thinks Broner Is so pathetic he should somehow make that fight it'd easily do over a million.
IMO Pacquaio's not as big of a draw because he was put to sleep. You can blame these numbers on Bradley, but the fact is the first Bradley fight sold 890K, since then Bradley engaged in the FOTY and a PPV win over Marquez (Pacquiao's conqueror). Why does this fight do over 100K less than the first one? It has to be Marquez's destruction of Pacquaio.
I agree. Pacquiao definitely lost his luster after back to back loses to Bradley and Marquez. The loss to Bradley wasn't bad because everyone but the judges saw the fight for Pacquiao. However the KO loss to Marquez really took some steam off the gravy train. I think Pacquiao is starting to get a bit of his shine back with each more victory. Another good victory or two and I think he can get back to 1mill+ ppv buys but he needs good victories over good opposition. No more Marquez, Bradley, Rios, Alvarado type fights. Canelo, Martinez type of fights is what he needs.

ya true but it sounds like arum is going to screw pac. he wouldn answer the question when asked if pac would get more then the 6 million he got before the fight since the buys were so low. If he tries to give pac 6 million thats bs a lot of people tune in to see pac lose but its still pac they paying to see
Those are great numbers for that fight. Better than the first, aren't they?
not when they were expecting 1.2 mil at least. i think its bout same as first one
Arum is a lawyer and a promoter (salesman). You can't believe a word he says but when he says he made money on it, you can bet he is happy about his financial reaping from the fight. Otherwise, he would avoid commenting on the financial outcome at all.
Yesterday I was lying, today I am.....ahh never mind :fingersx:
If Bob is openly admitting that he is disappointed in the numbers then it says a lot.

Compared to Pacs numbers in the past they are bad. Compared to anyone not named Mayweather they are good.:boxing:

Funny how most of you guys are trying to say how good these numbers are.
When Arum himself is disappointed in the numbers.
Anything to protect Pacquiao I guesd

Little under 900k.
If anything, it shows there's a difference between China and here.
Bradley was coming off the Marquez PPV win and was better known than the first time out
