On one side of the world, you have people saying Calzaghe ducked RJJ, Toney and B-Hop in their primes but on the other side, it's that Calzaghe never got a chance to fight them because of negotiations falling apart & whatnot. Is Slappy Joe's 46-0 record justified or padded?
Discuss accordingly.
P.S.: He ended up fighting RJJ and Hopkins at the end of his career (as well as dismantling Jeff Lacy & beating Mikkel Kessler), but take that as you will.
He is a first ballot hall of fame lock, 3 division champ, derailed oscar and margs,,
Yes Shane is one of the modern greats of the game...
Ok well if Shane Mosley is "One of the best fighters of the last 30 years" then it's hardly something to scream and shout about and the standards for "One of the best" are pretty damn low.
Right ok.
So Shane Mosley is one of the best fighters of the last 30 years then?

I think mosely is a really good fighter, much better and lightweight and early days at welter,, not much at 154 or his later run at welter...
Right ok.

Come on bro look at it in perspective, I can tell you know boxing. I know we havent had many true greats over the last 30 yrs in comparison to before, and the competition is alot weaker, but still, that is an incredible accomplishment in this sport. The talent and dedication it takes to even become a "paper champ" is enormous...To be one of the 50 best over the last 30 yrs is highly respectable
I've never said it's not respectable or a good achievement.
Top 50 makes you one of the best of the last 30 years? Not in my eyes.
Well they might get beat but he's not a better fighter than either of them.
What makes Calzaghe any better than those fighters? (Didn't mention Virgil Hill) His resume isn't any better than any of them really maybe Tszyu.
Well if you think he's on Shane Mosley's level do you think Shane Mosley is "One of the best fighters" of the last 30 years? Because obviously he isn't.
Well again it depends what you consider "His generation".

84 versions of srl and Duran would get beat,,
Calzaghe is better than winky, cotto tszyu, starling, hill, etc....
I think he is on the Shane, oscar level, and behind the Hopkins, jones, mccallum, hearns
Dude is a great fighter for his generation.. I don't want to really debate it because me and you will go 10 pages, and we have already discussed joe many times, I know how you rate him and you know how I rate him....

Name fifty fighters better than him since 84,,, joe is one of the best of his generation... You just don't like calzaghe,,, it clouds your judgement on this topic, my friend
What's his generation? The last decade?
Yeah he's probably Top 10 of the last decade.
Behind Mayweather, Pacquaio, Hopkins, Barrera, Morales, Marquez, Oscar, not sure who else.
Or are we talking the last 25 years? Because if we're talking last 25 years he's definitely not Top 10.
Hmmm, no it doesn't, actually. What have I said that isn't the truth? Do tell.
What are we talking? Fighters who were still active or good in 84-present? If so, Top of my head since 84;
Hagler
Hearns
Duran
Leonard
Whitaker
Chavez
Roy Jones
Hopkins
Mayweather
Pacquaio
Holyfield
McCallum
Toney
Lopez
Trinidad
Oscar
Nelson
Gomez
Lewis
Barrera
Morales
Marquez
That's 22 that are definitely ahead then there's guy's who are on a similar level like Mosley, Winky Wright, Cotto, Tszyu, Castillo, Froch, Starling and many others.
And that's just the top of my head.
Hardly "One of the best" really.

Who actually think he would have beat a prime RJJ, BHOP, or Lights Out.
Honestly I think James toney would struggle with calzaghe,,, toney on his best night would win, but you never know what toney will show up.. With joe's movement and angles, I think if toney is lazy, which was about 70% of the time! joe could outpoint him...
Because when someone say's "He's one of the best fighters of the last 30 years" I don't expect that to be amongst the Top 50.
That's if he's Top 50 which is debatable.

Top 50 in the last 30 years is very impressive, there are a lot of great fighters in the world. Like the other poster pointed out, you could ask any fighter in the world and they would most likely be very proud of that. I cant understand how you could admit he is debatably one of the top 50 fighters in the past 30 years and try to discredit that.

Top 50 over the last 30 years is not that awesome.
It's not "one of the best" either.
That's if he's even in the Top 50 of the last 30 years which is debatable.

Joe Calzaghe in his prime would've beaten all those guys in their primes.
An old Bhop made problems for Joe, yet in his prime you think he would have defeated him... Please get some knowledge! A prime Roy would have ended the fight early if not in the middle rounds.
I could see a toney fight going close but wouldn't put it against toney to come up with something devastating in the later rounds.
Well, originally he was "afraid of flying" until Hopkins was in his mid forties and Roy Jones was shot to pieces :dunno:
He also had big concern in regard to the judges and as evidenced by the Hopkins fight, Calzaghe was right to have those concerns.
