Some poster have asked me to put my take down so here goes.
Periban vs J Love
Good fight, Periban is a tough guy and I was impressed with Love's boxing in the second half of that fight. He's been getting a lot of criticism as of late, and I thought he showed up well.
Broner vs Molina
Molina did better than I thought he would have. He landed some big shots but I think Broner was too big and too strong for him in the end. Broner better be careful in calling out Mexicans, because there are some at 140lbs that would kick his ass.
Khan vs Collazo
Khan looked sharp but I didn't like the excessive holding. Collazo was obviously frustrated by the speed and the holding, but keeping your hands down didn't help. I thought Collazo could have done better but his game plan went out the window it seemed after round 2.
Mayweather vs Maidana
Man what a fight, I was completely wrong in how competitive it was going to be. Props to Maidana for taking the fight to Floyd and it's amazing how styles truly make fights. I personally think Canelo beats Maidana but Maidana's aggressive style showed up better vs Floyd.
I had it a draw but I will need to see it again and really sit down and score it more precisely. Maidana was just more aggressive, didn't stop coming forward and landed the harder, better shots. Have to give Mayweather his credit though, he really countered well later in the fight, but I also was disappointed with Tony Weeks.
If you allow Floyd to hold that much, and separate them immediately when he does hold, you take a huge part of Maidana's game away from him. Mayweather was holding inside, and if one arm is free, the ref needs to let them work.
Maidana also landed some low blows, I don't know if the were intentional, but he seemed frustrated from the holding. I honestly thought Maidana could have gotten the decision in the end, but I'm not mad with the outcome. It was a razor close fight, and I also have to say Robert Garcia and Alex Ariza have done a fantastic job with Maidana.
He came in incredible shape, and that pace is hard to keep for 12 rounds and he almost pulled off the huge upset. Of course there will be a rematch and I also think that Floyd looked a little older in this fight.
Kind of the way we saw Pac look vs Bradely the first time. Even though he won almost every round, it seemed that explosion wasn't there. I think Floyd's age caught up to him just a little bit, not saying he's anywhere near done but he is 37.
In the end it was a great night for boxing and my respect goes to Floyd. I really thought he had to earn his purse on this one, and it could have gone either way. I don't see Floyd fulfilling his contract of 6 fights. I truly believe the most important thing to him is keeping his "0" and fighting Maidana, Pac or even GGG really endangers that.
Great night of boxing though in the end.
there were some good shots yes, but that right hand not really one of them..
there was a wide loopy right from floyd he really sat down on, and although it didn't land flush as some of it was guarded by maidana's arm, a portion of it still landed ontop/on the ear and it looked powerful
check the right uppercut in rd 4, in the last 10 seconds of the round, maidana looked temporarily stunned there but fought through it
but he didn't land many shots like that through the fight, for the most part they were just scoring shots/potshots with not much power
and i had the same score as the first time you watched it, draw, but on a rewatch also had floyd winning by a point, it was a close fight
OK, I will go with this. Good breakdown.
He landed some clean shots man, he pull countered a few times and hit Maidana clean and he didn't blink.

True but we saw more of that with Floyd in this fight as well. In the later rounds Floyd landed some huge shots and Maidana didn't even flinch.
Take the right hand in the 10th I think it was, snapped Maidana's head back, but he didn't even blink. Where as the Broner shot at the end of the 11th really hurt Maidana and then hit him again in the 12th and had him going backward.
Maidana after that fight said he was hurt. Against Floyd is seemed he just walked through so many shots.
that shot wasn't even good.....flush shot no doubt, top of the head, easily catchable for everyone to see, but not a damaging blow, maidana moving away from it, floyd throwing an arm punch....
if floyd sat down on his shots he could have hurt maidana, but it looked like he had some trouble with the distance to do that
Not hard to believe since he's always sitting down on his punches. He stays in the pocket and is mostly always in position to throw.

I agree, I was once again very impressed with Floyd's greatness in the later rounds. Maidana missed a lot, he pressured, but he also missed.
Floyd also countered well and fought much better on the inside than what I originally thought.
I found it interesting that Maidana said that Broner hits much harder that Floyd.

I believe everyone's desire to see Floyd lose is getting the best of people. Yes it was competitive, yes it was close, yes I'd love to see a rematch. Maidana would've taken out anyone else that night, props to him. People also fail to realize, Floyd was getting hit with some bombs and he took them very well. He edged out a close decision but it was a clear win for him.

After rewatching the fight, I have to say I think Floyd did enough to win. It was a close fight though and Maidana made Floyd's night very uncomfortable.

I thought Khan fought very good, he showed everything, power, defense, boxing, combinations. He didn't fight anything like I thought he would, reckless, suffer some KD's, get tired/hurt in the championship rounds, and edge out a decision.
I find it quite hypocritical that Latinos on this very site can use all kinds of racial put downs towards blacks and their is rarely an outcry from any non blacks on this site.
Broner says I can beat any race, Mexican , African, Puerto Rican, etc... And now all of a sudden Mexicans want to get mad.
Just admit that most of you guys who are mad at Broners comments are really just racists yourselves.
Three most criticized fighters on NSB : Floyd , AB and Ward. I wonder why. Lol
"They hate us because they ain't us"
Another biased Mexican. Your analysis was garbage and biased as always. Floyd dominated the fight on the inside and outside. Maidana smothered his own work so how do you score his punches that aren't straight as deserving to win the fight.
You hate Floyd so much it ruined your whole analysis.
This would be a much better place if everyone was as unbiased and objective as Brandish :)
I am glad you came out and admit to being impressed with Maidana. I know we talked about it before the fight and I was trying to convince you that Maidana could make it a war and he accounted for himself well. I am proud of Chino!

What...the...hell...?
He gave his take on the fight and gave credit to both fighters and the fight itself for being great. You make it sound like he spewed nothing but contempt for Floyd. Jesus.
I love Floyd winning as much as his fans, but you're probably the type of guy that makes me want to see Floyd lose just so you take it down a notch. :smh:
IMO..Its not what Khan did..Its what Luis Collazo didn't do that cost him the fight.. He was Alfredo Angulo out there..Just going through the motions..He was told not to hurt Khan if he wanted to continue to get big fights.. FUK BOXING..:blackeye:
PRPP
Well, if you read my break down I said that Collazo threw his game plan out the window after round 2. Saying that though, you have to give Khan his props because his speed was bothering Collazo, so was his movement.
What is your opinion of the glove issue? Not the politics of it, but as a boxing trainer how much of a difference do you think it could have made on Maidana's punching power?
Definitely makes a difference, it's the reason certain fighters love Reyes over other brands.
Morales liked Winning because of the fit and issues he had with his hands. Figueroa the same thing, two hand surgeries later and he wears Winning now.
Everlast is the most popular brand on the planet and their MX version is their "Mexican" style of boxing gloves which are popular by many fighters. Including Donaire, Rios, Cotto and Maidana.
I think it would have made a difference and I don't know if he would have hurt Floyd but the chances would have increased.
Also, each glove is hand made, so you will get differences in the gloves even from the same make and brand. Anyone who has owned a pair of Reyes knows it takes time to "break in" because they are always different.
You also negotiate gloves in the contract, not hours before the fight. Floyd wanted to establish his "A side" like he said and he did it. Maidana should have called his bluff.

Agreed.
What was Maidanas purse for the fight?
A mere $1.5 million guaranteed.
But he will take some Argentinian tv rights money as well.
Reportedly closer to $2million when it's all done.
