Martinez is still #1 in my book. Inactivity and injuries aside, he's the lineal champ and has the better resume. Those are the two biggest deciding factors when ranking divisions and, as much as I like him, there's no way Golovkin has Martinez beat in either area.
How do they have that with their point system in place?
They drop guys out after a year of inactivity. Maravilla was at #1. Even tho GGG hasn't been fighting top guys he also hasn't lost - guys like sturm etc all have relatively recent losses, and Quillin has fought even worse opposition than GGG. Also they score KOs higher than decision wins AFAIK.
Then it will be "GGG has taken time off for personal reasons, he deserves a tuneup prior to facing Sergio" in contrast to the arguments accusing Serg of ducking while he has been rehabbing his injuries. Those tides will turn and these boards will reflect the bias to the 10th degree.
By tuneup you mean fighting a JMW at MW who's never been any good at JMW to begin with?
Dont the rankings have a champion status followed by a #1 status?
Why would they? The "lineal championship" (which is a meaningless and outdated concept imo btw) has no place in a stat-based ranking system.
Sergio will probably fight Canelo if he beats Cotto.
Then people will say that he should be chasing money instead of fighting the other best MW out there.
Just remembered it's been a year, guess they don't log in points even though a fight is set, just waiting till after
They automatically remove everyone who hasn't fought in over a year, regardless of whether he has a fight scheduled or not.
Golovkin needs a big win, and even an aged Sergio should be a quality win (although need to see how he looks to say for sure). I would be stunned if that opportunity was available if Golovkin passed, as long as there wasn't some other issue like health or a personal matter.
If he destroys Cotto and GGG's team starts backtracking, that crow is gonna taste extraa schitty for a lot of posters.........it's gonna happen too.
Why would Golovkin and K2 backtrack?

lol i doubt ggg would avoid a fight with sergio. his team talked all that **** about being avoided and if sergio calls him out and he back tracks id be shocked.
ya boy would get put into a retirement home if he fought ggg in his current state. If he looks **** against cotto while still winning he calls it a career. If he looks good against cotto and decides to fight ggg he still gets sparked.

****ing pathetic lol I can't wait till Sergio takes GG's head off

it's because he's been inactive for over a year. the murray fight took place on 04/27/13. he'll be back in the rankings and back to no.1 after the cotto fight.
