Still think the Cunningham vs Mansour fight was a little better, but this fight was good too.

I agree that normally it wouldn't be a foty candidate, but thus far this year it is. I am name a better fight so far this year.

While I really enjoyed it, we're going to have a crap year if that ends up being our fight of the year. Molina won the first 2 rounds at most. Technically won the 5th too with the dubious KD, but it would only be a 10-9 round. I'm somewhat reminded by Arakawa-Figueroa. People proclaiming it fight of the year, but Figueroa pretty much won every round. I need more competitiveness in a FOTY. no, it would be a 9-9 round. molina loses a point for losing the round, and matthysse loses a point for getting dropped no way could anybody score that bullshit 10-8 for molina, Lucas won every bit of that round. 9-9 on my card

It was a competitive fight up until Molina got knocked down in the 8th round when he was breaking down. Fight of the year so far. I think the only fights that can possibly become candidates are Maidana vs Mayweather and Chavez Jr. vs Golovkin.

Mathysse dominated Molina outside of a few punches, the knockdowns really had no bearing on the score, Mathysse was never in bad shape and pretty much handed Molina his ass. Was it a tougher fight than expected? Yes, because of two punches. That's it. Was it a good fight? Yes, it was exciting. Can it be FOTY? Yeah, possibly because it was so weird how everything was happening. If you put the fight in perspective Mathysse was beating Molina up in a lopsided affair. Especially last 5 rounds. I guess we see things differently, last night's bout was FOTY because Molina didn't fight scared and gave Matthysse all he could handle until the last two rounds. Molina put Matthysse down twice, cut him and hit him with good shots during exchanges throughout the fight. Wouldn't call it a total domination for Matthyssee because he had to take more punishment and work harder than I've ever seen to get the victory.

Announcers were pulling for hype-job Figueroa. OP Matthysse v Molina was a very entertaining fight, there's no rule that says FOTY has to very even, just exciting. A great fight, which it was. 4 k/ds and bombs landed all night. It might not last as the best fight this year, but it's certainly the best so far.

Yes, Molina did knock down Lucas but all in all, Molina's work rate was relatively low .... and as the fight went on, it was non-existent. So it's one of those fights that was great to watch but not sure it will be considered FOTY .... time will tell how the rest of the year turns out.

Maybe because this year is such a crappy year for boxing (so far) and the first all action fight we see is consider FOTY ...amazing fight tho

He's a warrior though. I'm glad the majority of us are in compliance about this. Still was a good fight. Molina wasn't active enough though. To busy trying to survive Lucas' calculated onslaught.

It was a great fight but it most likely won't last as FOTY. It is definitely FOTY so far though

yeah, watching it again you can see how matthysse was jabbing more and adjusting to molina, landed at will. the last 3 rounds were brutal for molina
